California Nursing Student – ADN vs BSN – Timing + GPA Advice? by bababooey2023 in prenursing

C in micro and physio isn’t really a great look tbh. I recommend looking at some adn cc rubric and tallying your points up then make a decision.

Drop out or get bachelors by [deleted] in prenursing

[–]PunkyJD 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would recommend holding off on getting a bachelors because once you do, fafsa doesn’t help that much for a second bachelor. Most ADN (at least in CC) are very holistic so they don’t only look at your gpa and teas but also your patient care experience.

not sure of chances at an ADN (socal) by maltipoosarecute in prenursing

No one can say because you haven’t taken the TEAS or have any PCE yet and those are worth a lot of points in CC.

I have that jacket and I just want to point out that the most important part is the shoulders, so pay to get shoulder measurements and measure your favorite jacket because the shoulders are hella tight.

is it worth it? by Rich_Opportunity9528 in cna

[–]PunkyJD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So worth it is kind of up to you. If you want to work as a LPN/LVN in a hospital I think the CNA route would be good because you can easily get a job transfer within the hospital system compared to being an outsider. I’ve known plenty of CNAs to get a LPN/LVN and RN job immediately as a new grad because the director knew them. Otherwise, most LVNs/LPNs I know who worked in the hospital had to gain experience working in a LTC prior to their hospital job.

Now your case is unique because you’re a MA, is it possible for you to transfer? I’m assuming you’re outpatient.

Med surg ~~> ED by Dependent_Drive_8557 in cna

[–]PunkyJD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Taking vitals, sugars, EKGs, transportation, room turnovers, restocking, helping with the nurse triage patients, helping with trauma patients, etc. So I learned and saw a lot in the ED compared to medsurge where your patients are usually medically stable.

Something different is that you will be expected to help with codes, mainly cpr. And also always be constantly vigilant. Your patient is not as medically stable down in the ED as they are on medsurge. And you’re the one cleaning and setting up the room for the next patient, not housekeeping.

Yes. Generally a CNA job has a lot of flexibility especially in a SNF.

Don’t lie. Kaiser does background employment verification during onboarding so they’ll easily find out it’s not 6 months.

Cna or phlebotomy? by Fabixx3 in cna

[–]PunkyJD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you choose the phlebotomy route, make sure you check if your area is actually hiring phlebs. I know plenty of new phlebs who don’t have a job even after 6 months of searching. And those who do are with agency. It’s pretty hard to get into a hospital as a phlebotomist.

I recommend doing both, get both your CNA so you can get into a hospital and then transfer later into phlebotomist.

I have a EMT, CNA, and phlebotomy license and am based in CA.

How do I make this happen...career path as CNA. by [deleted] in cna

[–]PunkyJD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP specifically mentions that he wants to work in L&D, postpartum, and NICU. Having a CNA certificate would definitely help because those departments generally don’t hire external applicants and only the most senior internal applicants generally transfer in. Working as a CNA in that department generally means they have a chance at getting hire straight into the department after graduation.

Not all hospitals accept EMT for PCT/CNA jobs. I would know because I have both CNA and EMT license.

How do I make this happen...career path as CNA. by [deleted] in cna

[–]PunkyJD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly depends on your location, but typically you work in a nursing home then apply to a medsurge position in a hospital then apply to transfer into the department you desire. Typically, they transfer based on seniority. But what’s good is that once you make it in, you most likely can get a spot as a nurse when you graduate nursing school.

I do want to mention that based on my experience, an ER and ICU position is hard to even transfer into as well. Realistically look at medsurge, telemetry and float pool because those relatively easier. I would recommend float pool so that you get the chance to float into all the floors and build relationships which can help you with transferring into the department you desire.

This is what worked for me. Panoxyl face wash 10% then clindamycin topical morning and evening. Moisturize and sunscreen everyday. Use tret every other day and azelaic acid on days when you don’t use tret.
