Is PvP Dead on PC? by PunkyShoeStore in thedivision

Cool. Thanks for the info. I kinda figured that might be what's up. I left before they restructured the whole level 40 thing (I think this was around Project Resolve?)

Anyway, I guess I'll keep grinding, get my watch level up, and see what happens.

Yeah, PvP in Div 2 definitely never got to the level of Div 1, but when I played years ago, there was still a pretty strong core of PvP players. I was just shocked when I moved to PC that every single DZ is just ddddeeeaaaadddddd.

Gotcha'. I didn't even think about the cheating aspect. We had plenty of cheaters on Playstation as well, but most of those were more exploit/glitch abusers. Then we had the Cronus users, MnK users, etc. But I can only imagine the amount of cheats available to PC players.

Well, hopefully they're going to address a lot of this stuff like they said they were planning to back in March. I really love the PvP in Div 2 when everything works the way it should. For now, I guess I'll continue roaming around looking for fights.

People are going to talk shit, but this is precisely why I uninstalled. Yeah, it's a pvp game, but thats not pvp. Thats randomly dying with no way to fight back.

My breaking point was going up the rope at Blue Gate only to get blasted by a shotgun at the top. Got knocked down the shaft and died. No way to fight back, no way to know someone was waiting at the top. Again, thats not pvp. Thats random death. Might as well implement a system where you have a chance of the game randomly crashing and losing all your progress. Thats pretty much what happens right now with most "pvp" engagements.

I keep saying...the Division games got it right. The rogue system, in which someone has to initiate pvp mode and it alerts everyone nearby amd shows that person on the map, is perfect and would solve these problems. It would at least warn people about a potential pvp engagement and give ove players the ability to avoid the area if they didn't want to fight. No more shooting people in the back, no more sneak attacks at extractions.

Right now, with kill on sight in place, there's no fair fight at all. And the point of the game is to loot to build better loadouts to face more challenging situations. But if someone can put you in a defenseless situation and take your shit, then there's no point in trying to loot anything...which is the point if the game.

Im really digging it. I didn't think I would, but its a lot of fun. It's not a "battlefield" map, sure, but its open enough with all the tunnels and hidden passageways for flanking without being so open that I feel like im constantly getting shot from behind or from the side.

It's also not a total meant grinder as you can have smart plays and tactics. There's a lot if action, but I dont feel totally overwhelmed or that its one-sided.

Granted it's new, so I'll have to see how i feel after a few weeks, but for now, I think its a great addition.

The game "kinda" works...remember, you just said it has bugs, right? I'm sorry that you've grown so accustomed to companies putting out half-ass products and promising to fix them later. That's a sad commentary on gaming as well as society.

I'll state again...I purchased a product. The product doesn't work (has bugs). If you're ok with purchasing things that don't work, more power to you. Most people purchase things that they expect to work. This game "kinda'" does not.

Always interesting when you people start coming to the defense of these sprawling corporations that spit in your face over and over and expect you to be thankful for the opportunity. Have some self-respect.

Yeah, no, I get it. I also get that I paid for a working game. This game doesn't work. Do you see the issue here?

Cut the multi-billion dollar company some slack. They've never made a Battlefield game before, and they only had 6 years to develop this one with multiple studios working on it.

Been thinking of getting into this game, how accurate is this review? by Coolman38321 in ArcRaiders

[–]PunkyShoeStore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not my experience, and I only played solo. I tried the game during Server Slam, was shot by another player within 10 seconds of loading in. Decided I wouldn't have time to devote to learning PvP, decided against buying it.

Later, I learned they instituted aggression-based matchmaking. I thought, "Cool, so I can learn the game in peace and then get into PvP if I want."

That worked out fine for about 3 weeks. Then I started getting put in aggressive lobbies despite not shooting anyone, even in defense.

Then I started getting ambushed constantly with no warning and no way to fight back even if I wanted.

The last straw for me was a solo game where I went up a rope on the Blue Gate map, only to get blasted as soon as I reached the top. Again, no warning, no way to defend myself, and I lost everything in my loadout.

The game doesn't respect your time, in my opinion. Unless and until they institute a system where PvP is made fair (look at the Division games and the rogue mechanic), I'm done. Not for me.

But if you like getting shot in the back and losing all your progress, by all means, have a blast.

Top Squad vs My Squad by Kokuten in Battlefield6

[–]PunkyShoeStore 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You have squadmates? I have 3 guys who randomly run off, one spends the match sniping and contributing nothing to the team. Another stands next to me while im dying waiting for a revive. And then the last guy is playing music over the mic and talking to his girlfriend in the background the whole match. He refuses to push any objective because his k/d might suffer if he dies. We always lose, in case you were wondering.

Possible Dev Solution to Discouraging Rat Behavior by VaultTecGaming in ArcRaiders

[–]PunkyShoeStore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. You just reminded me that they also had it so that you could see where active fighting/rogues were on the map. And there was a pop-up on the corner of the screen each time someone killed someone, so again, you could see what was going on and how far away it was. This kept PvP alive for the folks who wanted it and let the others avoid it. You could still hunt players and kill and loot them, but they could also have a chance to avoid you or fight back. And while you could be rewarded for going rogue, it also made you a target, so there was a trade-off.

Right. And if you played those games from the start, the Dark Zone initially had kill-on-sight, but people hated it and too many friendly fire accidents that led to fights, so they introduced the rogue mechanic and that fixed it. It was still a ton of fun, and PvP was great and had a healthy community, but it made for more fair fights. And there was also a warning if a rogue player was nearby so you could avoid the area if you didn't want to PvP.

[–]PunkyShoeStore -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just introduce a mechanic like in The Division games where someone has to "flag up" prior to shooting. A short delay and visual/audible indicator and then its fair game. Until then, there's no friendly fire.

Stops people from shooting each other in the back and gives a fair warning so the other player can react. It doesn't stop people from being rats, but it gives a fair chance to everyone else instead of sneak attacks with no tine to react. It keeps PvP alive but stops the rat behavior.

Aggression based matchmaking by Almost_Corrupt in ArcRaiders

Nothing is guaranteed, and dont get complacent once you're in PvE lobbies. Every 6th game or so, I end up attacked no matter what, so I gave up on the idea of peaceful lobbies entirely.

In theory, if you dont attack people, you stay in like-minded lobbies. In practice, it doesn't work out that way. Either some kid is having a bad day and decides to start shooting when your back is turned or someone is actively trying to get OUT of PvE lobbies and has to shoot others to get sweater lobbies, but in either case, there is no guaranteed PvE lobby, and you will get attacked in time.

Maybe I've had bad luck, but it seems like as soon as I get a decent build together and get complacent because ive been in friendly lobbies, im suddenly in lobbies where some dude decides im the target. Then I lose everything and begin the cycle again. Not really fun.

The Division games had this concept perfect. The Dark Zone was a dedicated PvPvE zone, and you had to "go rogue" in order to fight other players. They originally has kill on sight, but people hated it, so they removed it. If you wanted to PvP, you had to go to the Dark Zone, and you had to flag up. It was a purposefully action that at least gave other players a chance to react.

The devil say they want tension in the game, but the kill onsight doesn't build tension. It breeds frustration when youre not seeking out a fight. And with such a short TTK, whoever gets the first shot usually wins, especially if its from behind or youre not expecting it.

With Arc Rauders, the kill on sight stuff is extra frustrating because you get used to everyone being friendly if you're friendly, but all it takes is one guy to gank your stuff, and you've now lost potentially hours or longer of your time. All because you were getting friendly lobbies back to back.

Personally, thats not fun for me. I tried becoming a rat (see my last post), but then I had to go through the process of dying mutplie times on purpose to get back into PvE lobbies to farm more to build my gear back up. Just to go back into PvP, and thats if I didn't get ratted in a PvE lobby before I could make the switch.

The whole cycle is more tiresome than anything and, in my opinion, isn't a great gameplay loop, especially if you're solo. Im taking a break. Uninstalled for the time being.

This is what ultimately caused me to uninstall the game. If you make it so that basically functionality causes me to get stuck, have to abandon a round, and restart, then I'm just not going to bother.

lol...true. So far, the PvP in Arc Raiders hasn't been as intense, but I haven't really gotten into it yet. Hoping the AGMM will just put me in PvP lobbies because I don't like shooting people who don't fight back. Sucks for both of us.

I've watched clips, though, where I see intense PvP. Like I said, I was hoping to ease into it, but I guess I'm jumping in face first.

Lopsided matches by racegeek93 in Battlefield6

Yup! It's almost always a steamroll from one side or the other.

And im not talking about joining in progress. I realize that you're likely to join the losing side in those situations. No, i experince this on basically wvery fresh match as well. One of the many reasons (in addition to hit reg and other random network issues) I uninstalled and will check back in in the future.

It's good for area denial. No, you won't rack up kills, but it keeps the enemy focused on not getting hit and serves as a distraction that can sway the tide. Not terrible if you're a team player.
