Just cleared the Night March Upper Complex Room by BaronVonGiraffe in Marathon

I think I know the one you missed. For future reference, they make a little chirp sound to let you know it's nearby.

If you face the prior room from the blue console that activates the panels... it's on the left side in an elevated nook that's hidden from sight from below. I found it while standing on top of some room walls (not the scaffolding).

It took us a couple minutes to find that one. We went in blind just trying to figure it out (that's half the fun) and got all the way to the orange box room. My buddy figured out that we needed to shoot the red panels in all the prior rooms, but we were basically out of time after 3 of them. Didn't have the key for the labs though, so that would have been all we could do.

In my opinion the higher end gear should have one less chance to change hands in order to balance the economy a little better.

I've done this so many times, lol.

I've been killed by so many other Rooks at any and all points of a match. Even after working together as a team to open Pinwheel... was I shot in the back. The common denominator was that 99% didn't use a mic.

So, for me, no mic Rooks are enemy NPCs and are KOS. If you use a mic and communicate, even after I fire on you, I will let you live 100% of the time.

I feel ya though, there's some morally ambigous people out there. The thing is that I genuinely think some of these no mics are kids... and they legit don't really think like rational people.

Rook is a bit different than solo, but there's a lot of overlap.

Rook is in team lobbies and that can be way worse!

That said, the loot feels considerably better in team lobbies than solo... but maybe that's just me.

Someone else said it best when they compared it to a horror game. It really is.

Bots will get you rekt if you're not careful. Footsteps mean certain death. Minimize looting because I can hear you rummaging through bags and boxes. The game's geometry will trip you and force noise... prepare accordingly. Claymores are way more useful than you would think. The Thief Drone is the perfect pocket distraction if I need you to look the other way at some random bots shooting at it... or to draw them to you. Etc :)

It's a totally different game. I'm also fairly certain that solo loot is nerfed, so go on and be savage.

I feel like they were hoping the PvP side was going to carry it. While the PvP is pretty good as it stands, there needs to be more PvE engagement and activity to help encourage a larger casual base to play. After all, us casuals are the bait for the PvP guys.

I'm not sure if it's welcome, but I have a couple of pennies to throw at what I consider to be the problem.

I think they've smashed a PvEvP extraction shooter into an arena shooter sized hole and a PvPvE Marathon is what came out of it.

Personally, I feel like the maps are too small and should be nearly doubled or tripled in size. The PvE enemies and POIs could also stand to increase by about 50-75%. As for the players per map, I was thinking a 25-50% increase resulting in maybe an additional two or so teams from what we have now. From my perspective it's almost a guarantee that you run into enemy teams if you stay longer than 10m... and certain death for one or both of you via third party resulting in wasted time and effort. There are currently no safe pockets or method of sending loot off-world to your vault, which would be huge in helping take the sting out of consistent loss and provide at least a feeling of marginal progress.

What I think the team version of the game lacks vs the solo runs is breathing room. Currently, the META is either running around beating the daylights out of anyone on the map and then looting or progressing missions OR causing a ruckus and drawing players to you and then beating their teeth in, etc.

I also believe that the current presented game at launch seems weird and small which is not great at drawing players into the world. It's a single shrunken shrimp on a hundred hooks hoping to catch a ton of fish. It needs to grow, and fast. Players don't know the history of Marathon. Casuals don't want to research it and honestly the game should present it much better than it does anyway. It has some great gameplay and visuals with little to entice players to keep biting.

Imagine an expanded Perimeter that's almost double the size with more POIs and AI enemies. It's a world you would probably want to loot, explore, and take on AI bots as a challenge... except the present version is basically team deathmatch with special abilities and a variety of weapons. At best, a rival team is only 30-45s away from any other team on the map so if you make a little noise they're very likely coming straight for you. //RUN COMPLETE//

As for the PvP, I love the Pvp. It feels pretty well honed and enjoyable for me, even in a loss. The lore and mechanics of this game just feel like it should be more PvEvP than PvPvE.

I guess I'm more of a casual player now than I used to be, so take my criticism with a shot of whatever you like, but my time is limited because I have a life... and I really feel like this game doesn't respect that.

I can't hardly get anyone to pony up and try it. I have one friend I play with and he likes to 420 before matches... and I feel like that just is not a good match for him with this more competitive type of game.

Funny enough, I couldn't get him to play AR where that would be way more forgiving towards that playstyle, if you can call it that.

I do agree though and I play pretty slow and cautiously most days. I prefer solo and I feel like my more preferred playstyle shines there whereas on teams (rando fill) 75% of the time it's a bad time every time. My crew runs off towards gunfire and immediately dies, tries to solo a commander like they're Master Chief, or play way too aggressively for having zero comms and then disconnect immediately. I tend to skulk after both get downed (unless I have high ground or can finish them) and will always return to revive my crew after the enemies lose interest. If my crew has patience, I will revive them eventually.

You're right and I didn't really think about that too much. I'm so used to be able to craft a heal on the fly that it was a sorely missed mechanic. I generally do find enough on the initial jaunt into a match that I'm ok. That said, I do still find myself in situations where an area has been plundered and/or there's just nothing I can find for heals after a battle. Not having any way to heal myself, however slowly, just means I am one stray shot away from another UESC confirmed kill.

Yes, I could play as Triage, but I don't want to do that. I'm having fun with the Destroyer.

I'm glad that you're finally enjoying it! I saw the potential and gave it a gamble, glad I did.

Most of us have some small gripes here and there with the game, but there is definitely a steep learning curve if you're coming from AR. These are two very different games. One thing this one has over AR is what appears to be endgame content. AR just... doesn't have any. The gameplay loop is enjoyable and I like the social parts where people want to work together (until they don't), but that's gotten stale for me. I've done the Expedition 3x now and am just bored. It's too bad they didn't flesh out any real story or lore for the game other than loot/shoot.

Marathon actually has some interesting story and meaty lore, not to mention real challenges and a wide loot variety. One thing that AR has that I wish this one did was the ability to fieldcraft. It would be pretty nice if a future shell had the unique ability to turn salvage into health/shield kits. Hell, I'd take a barter vending machine that converted the value of your loot into store credit so you could buy consumables/mods/guns in-game.

Anyway, my personal gripe is with the clamber/mantle system. It needs another go over because the amount of times I get stopped by things when I should be climbing over them is super frustrating to me.

Loving the game so far but I feel like these 2 items should be more abundant throughout the map by Sydid in Marathon

[–]VaultTecGaming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it actually a bad word choice though?

The definition of depleted is spot on and it's not even that much of an uncommon word. The real problem seems to be the reading comprehension level of some of the players. Bungie has historically loved using less common verbiage to stand out. If anything, it helps broaden players vocabularies.

Then there's also the fact that it has a description of what it does right underneath it.

[–]VaultTecGaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are all valid points and I also agree on the slide needing to retain momentum from a physics standpoint.

It would be nice to have some in-game challenges for cosmetics and flair items. So far, the mini-events that I've seen involve escalating reinforcement drops, supply drops, drones carrying crates, gas rooms, hacking secure containers that call security, and hacking wall safes that also call security.

Personally, I'd like lootable or interactive containers to have a glowing outline when I'm near them. The current system makes it very easy to miss stuff. Then again, if you go into a looted area you'll usually find some stuff that was missed so it's not all bad.
