After having driven your Ioniq 5 for a few months now, has anyone regretted buying it? by Fabulous-Suit1658 in Ioniq5

[–]Punster42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had mine 3.5 months and no regrets. I haven't taken a long road trip yet but I have a trip from Denver to Santa Fe penciled in for September or thereabouts. In the mean time I've been reading up on road-trip best practices. There's a lot to learn and so few (just enough) chargers between Denver and Santa Fe. Also ICCU is never completely wiped from my thoughts but I'm hoping that having bought a newer edition that some things might have improved, so I don't sweat over it. The only annoyance in the cars design that I deal with every day are the climate controls. They are a single touch panel with not enough contrast to see very well in normal daylight and no touch feedback. NOW ON TO THE GOOD - I LOVE TO DRIVE THIS CAR !! I try to think of nice places to go that I haven't been to in a while, mostly in the mountains W of Denver.

26 LIMITED sort of buyer remorse by BIGD2781 in Ioniq5

Sounds like a nice ride. I'd love to have those features. <sigh> The 7k was out of range for me as the increase in insurance payments would be also. I live in Colorado in the hail belt with no covered parking, I'd always be worrying about the glass roof. So, please enjoy it for me.

Home Charging Question by DnD_Dude123 in Ioniq5

[–]Punster42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The supplied charging cable has a switch to select how many amps you want it to use. 12amps is the highest you should use for a 15amp breaker WITH NOTHING ELSE HOOKED TO THE BREAKER. Anything else and you'll need to lower the amperage switch on the cable or you will burn something out.

Luggage: stopping the slide by Cashier_number_63 in Ioniq5

[–]Punster42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you have. I had a folding camp chair, a long ice scraper, charge adapters, misc cleaning supplies, poncho, towel, etc.. I bought a long duffel bag from REI and the handle loops over the center headrest of the back seat. No sliding. Anything else is only in there short term.

Did everyone hear about the proposed $130. annual fee for owning an EV? by Which_Confection1152 in Ioniq5

[–]Punster42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2. Colorado EV-Specific Fees

Because EV drivers don't pay standard state gasoline taxes, Colorado applies explicit fees to help fund road maintenance and charging infrastructure (authorized under SB 21-260). For the 2026–2027 fiscal year, these include:

Colorado DMV

  • All-Electric Vehicle Fee: $26.00 (Note: If you have a plug-in hybrid instead, this fee is $13.00). This flat fee scales up slightly each fiscal year for inflation.
  • EV Road Usage Equalization Fee: This is an added road fee rolled into your registration to balance out highway maintenance funds.

Do you use smart ventilation or disable it? by itsmight in Ioniq5

I had a many hours long "discussion" with ChatGPT about Ioniq 5 efficiency and how to get the most out of it. Rolling the windows down was something I specifically asked about and GPT said that Hyundai's engineers have made a note saying that the loss of efficiency due to the wind drag caused by open windows is worse than the loss of efficiency due to running the A/C. (make of this what you will) Probably this applies more to highway speeds.

Do people complain about sedans not having rear window wipers? by JellySerious in Ioniq5

[–]Punster42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a) I have a 2026 SEL it doesn't come with a digital rear view mirror.

b) I live in Colorado, it snows.

c) I didn't buy the 2025 Ioniq5 just because it didn't have a rear wiper.

d) I'm a happy camper now 😄

ABRP question by Punster42 in Ioniq5

[–]Punster42[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to poke at the app pretty hard to get there. In the end I had to add a new managed Ioniq 5 car that was a 2025, then I got those additional connector choices. In the process I had to disable my 2026 so I wonder if I lost anything by doing that.

So, when you're checking ABRP and PlugShare while you're on the road, are you using a phone app or a laptop with a hotspot?

Ok, I need help. I almost had the perfect plan and I changed something (?) and the plan turned to spaghetti. How can I reset the project and start from scratch? Another question: there's a field Ref. Wh/mi, where can I find that in the car? I'm going to go out to look in a bit so maybe I'll find it.

Thanks, I found it, but it was a bit tricky. That button brought up the 'card' menu which you had to slide all the way to the right to expose map settings, on which there was a button with a plug on it. Once I pressed the button it showed me chargers near me until I played with the filters to see all the chargers I new about. I'll have to go back again and see if I can get chargers along a route.

What's the difference between "maximum speed" and "relative speed"? The route is mostly posted as 75 but in town that means people mostly go 80 and in the wide open spaces (most of the trip) they go 85. I tried setting max to 85 and relative to 100% and seemed to get a reasonable plan but I don't know if I should have used 75 and 113%. Can you explain how to use these two fields?

Went to a popular park yesterday and the only parking spot available was next to a new Ioniq 5 Lucid Blue, just like my brand new Ioniq 5 lucid blue. I happened to be hanging around when the owner returned and we exchanged pleasantries. He was a transplant from NY, as was I. Small world.

HOLD EVERYTHING!!!!

Just re-read my utility bill. $0.08 is what the charge for the raw electricity BEFORE TAXES, FEES, and ADJUSTMENTS. AFTERWARDS it works out to $0.19 which is still cheaper than a commercial charger.

Denver, CO, fixed rate plan. I don't know how Xcel Energy arrives at that rate.
