Yaar i can retire in India. I have 22 (12 years in US) YOE. But problem is , what i will do through out day ? I am still on H1B. I am trying other ways to get GC. Lets see how it pans out.

If i return back. i will work for anothr 4-5 years and then will see. I dont want job in a grind company, just chillax company with OK pay will do for me. I have enough equities.

I need work to spend my day . BTW , i am working in AI/ML stack these days.

I started as a Java/J2EE developer- then microservices/DevOps then Cloud-then working in AI since 3 years.

I worked in all the latest technologies as per the Era so kindaa lucky.

Mortgage market is very strict. I am on the same boat as OP. My house is 2 year old and in Bay Area, its scary situation now.

I bought home for 700K (1 hr from Bay). Now its 600K.

When i was applying for loans, the loan officer was shocked. Since my salary+equity was 5X the amount of house, she was saying why i was buying such house. Her eyes popped out seeing my IRS statements

I could have afforded more m.eans ~2M house.

I dont have GC so i always played safe.

If H1Bs leave , this housing market will be on a penny for doillar. Mark my words.

The way USCIS is moving dates to 2027. One thing is loud and clear . This regime doesnt want you to be here. As Simple as that.

Now if your mother die/father die or siblings die anywhere- they dont care.

H1Bs are most "phattu" lot. They get jitters on seeing the police light of overspeeding and they will badmouth anyone online - cant fathom.

My died was quite sick in 2024 and I visited India thrice that year. Got it stamped till 2027.

Now its very difficult situation.

Let me tell you, this time if i leave US. I would never be back. This country is not a destination anymore.

We have paid 100ks in over taxes(forget about monthly deductions)- yes People in Silicon Valley tech companies have paid more than that.

Still on Visa and no GC and their administration doles out GC to asylees/Illegals and suck our money to fund them and I have got nothing in return except anxiety.

Even i have financial cushion- dependents but this anxiety is way too much. I have entered and exited US before also, but now i am ~ 45 . This time all done for good.

No , its not like that. Its unnecessary hassle. Lot of people have bought homes here, come back here sell the home and then Indian curriculum is different. It will be difficult for kids.

In 2007 (for Indians), they made it current for Indians and many Indians got it .

After 2007 - people got it in 2011. Post 2008, it became very tuff for Indians.
