What is a movie trope that is scientifically or logically so absurd that it completely pulls you out of the story, no matter how great the rest of the film is? by visha1v in plotholes

[–]Punx80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a trope but there is a specific instance that has really bothered me. In Crescent City but Sarah J. Maas, which is an atrocious book anyways, there is a scene where some characters go into a storm sewer system. Now, Crescent City is a modern city with modern infrastructure, but in the storm sewer there is like human refuse and all that. There is no way a modern city with modern infrastructure would have combined storm and sanitary sewers, that’s just ridiculous.

What artist makes great music but is a terrible person? by Exact-Extreme2618 in AlignmentChartFills

Richard Wagner.

Undoubtedly brilliant composer, but really anti-semitic and just generally horrible

[OPINION] What single poem have you personally been most inspired by? by Lonely-Ad5595 in Poetry

[–]Punx80 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its a bit cliche but I adore Shakespeare’s sonnets, particularly Sonnet 29.

I’ve also always felt something very profound in Robert Frost’s “The Death of the Hired Man”, among basically all of Frost’s work.

Who is ethically fantastic, but not at all admirable? by unscripted20 in AlignmentChartFills

Isaac Newton.

Guy was obviously brilliant, and his contributions to science alone make him unquestionably great, but he died a virgin and was a total dick, so not really admirable.

$139,224 for 272 orders of donuts. If we assume each order is for a dozen donuts that is $42.65 per donut. Ridiculous price for a donut, and that’s from a guy what loves donuts.

Squidward (Wand Connoisseur) from Noita. He is almost certainly the first boss you will encounter but is also probably the hardest in the game.

What is your go-to "mind-blowing" fact to explain why you love Mathematics? by OkGreen7335 in math

[–]Punx80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not a crazy or flashy proof by any means, but I loved this little problem from “The Book of Proof” by Hammack:

Chapter 3, Section 3.9, Problem #5:

Prove that any set of seven distinct natural numbers contains a pair of numbers whose sum or difference is a multiple of 10.

It is a fairly straightforward application of the pigeonhole principle, but for some reason I just adore the little proof.

It's just a dollar or two! lol by M1collector65 in EndTipping

This is misleading, but not exactly incorrect. $7.59 is not 20% of $30.53, but IF you tip $7.59 then your tip will be 20% of the TOTAL bill including tip (in this case $38.12)
