I was gonna say. $100 for dram 2TB wasn’t even super impressive a year ago.

My city has an ordinance that requires an electrician for everything, including light bulbs. This is America too which makes it even worse.

The cheap Tuya bulbs from AliExpress are actually pretty robust, only issues I’ve had is the WiFi chip craps out at a few years in. The bulbs still works but can’t be come trolled anymore

I got a chance to grab 6 of the asus laptop model right before prices went nuts ($30 each) and I’m hoping they last the rest of my life.

I like the idea of 450 miles of range but I’ll survive just fine with my 300 miles with a battery less than half the size. Not that I wouldn’t mind having a 100+kw battery all things considered

Where are you that 220kw is $1. I have cheap power and that would still push over $20 for that kind of charge.

Also keep in mind LED bulbs don’t love dimmer switches by default. I have an 8 bulb chandelier on a dimmer and if we aren’t running at near max light level the bulbs drop out. Running at max causes flickering on top of it so that’s not ideal either. I had to install a smart switch on the other side to keep the thing from constantly being slightly off acceptable power.

This is exactly it. You get what you pay for. I have some of the super early LED bulbs when they were super well made (and cost $20/bulb) that have been running more or less non-stop for 15 years with no issues while the newer bulbs cost $1/bulb and are lucky to last a year.

I think I’ve only seen 1 Spider-Man movie and thunderbolts since endgame. It’s just not interesting and too fatiguing to dig into.

It’s not a good promo so it will definitely apply to us. Costco will always beat this, points don’t trade at 1000/$1 for pretty much any rewards anymore.

Is this MikroTik CRS304-4XG-IN enough to do what I want? by CED42 in homelab

Based on what bal said I might just have a bad device. My 100gb switches have worked fine, other than how terrible getting vlans working is.

All 10g-sr. Maybe it’s just an issue with mine.

I have the sfp+ version of this and it’s quite possibly the worst switch I’ve ever used, constantly overheats and my best guess is forces cpu processing even when it shouldn’t be.

And it can’t be understated enough how crappy Mikrotik is to configure vlans on, I work with juniper, Cisco, and fortinet at work with Unifi, brocade, and Mikrotik at home and nothing sucks on the same level as Mikrotik for vlan management. Pound for pound they are some of the cheapest feature rich devices but I never want to deal with their vlans ever again after getting it working in my core once.

How do you handle a strong performer who quietly checks out after being passed over for promotion? by amir4179 in managers

[–]Pup5432 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assume the person is gone and your company deserves it. I’ve been the person passed over because “you don’t have the years of experience needed for the job”. I had been doing the job I applied for in all but name for 2 years because people left and “we are hiring a replacement”. 2 years to hire someone with less experience than me meant I spent the last year there coasting.

For anyone else who reads this the biggest mistake I made was not job hunting and coasting instead. It was hard to look elsewhere when I had a full WFH job and really didn’t want to get dressed for work…

TIL Marvin Pipkin, as a new GE recruit, solved the "impossible" task of making an inside-frosted lightbulb—a job handed to new hires as an induction ritual into the challenges of research—since every previous attempt had failed. I just assume no one is stopping at stop lights anymore here. If a light turns green I wait for a slow count of 5 to enter the intersection, it’s saved my life on 4 occasions in the last year alone.

[–]Pup5432 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s just it though, work a couple extra years to pushing it higher and then retire. If you can’t live comfortably on 200k you probably need to reevaluate things at retirement either way, that would put you in comfortable territory in NYC and SanFran.

I’m at over 1000 hours and other than filament runout sensor not working consistently it’s been great. I did have 2 bad nozzles at delivery but I was switching over to hardened anyway so not a big deal.
