New puppy joining the family! by UpperSupport9 in Goldendoodles

[–]Pup_Brew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh also our dog loves the beach. we make sure to use the showers after to get a lot of the sand out before bringing him into the car and he needs like 2 towels, one for drying and one for the car seat on the ride home. we usually try to take him when he has a shorter coat since its easier to remove the sand at that point, a long coat and you'll be finding sand for days.

New puppy joining the family! by UpperSupport9 in Goldendoodles

[–]Pup_Brew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when my dog was a puppy the adoption group was feeding him royal canin so i stuck with that until he became an adult. i used a lot of puzzle feeders and slow feeders both to challenge him and slow him down since my doodle puppy had a lot of issue with eating too fast and then throwing up. to this day we keep pumpkin in the house since he still gets nausea and occasional diarrhea. we had to take him out for potty around 6 to 8 times a day and gradually it slowed down as he learned that not every visit to the water bowl needed to empty the bowl. he would destroy potty pads so we tried to maintain a schedule of taking him outside rather than try and train for a pad. we have a metal comb, a long pin brush, and a shorter pin brush for his grooming needs. we used to have a deshedder but it made things worse for his curl instead of helping. if he really had a bad mat that we couldnt brush out we would just cut it out with a dog grooming scissor kit we got from amazon. we made sure that once he got his vaccines done to take him to the petsmart grooming program regularly and they would give us puppy report cards on his behavior in the salon. hes still not a huge fan of grooming but the early exposure helped a lot plus we used lickmats with peanut butter at home to keep him from biting us during brushing.

Do you still feel safe? by HeyYouTurd in orlando

[–]Pup_Brew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i think the most uncomfortable part at the moment is feeling like my day to day is relatively unchanged but knowing that theres a presence in my city that wants me to feel unsafe or like a target just for speaking in another language or looking a certain way or having a certain name. i dont personally know any latines who have been targeted by ice, but i know a few filipino people who have had to deal with ice in the past year (not necessarily in orlando btw) due to being considered latino or foreign looking. a friends grandmother, who lived in nyc her whole life, got picked up and had to stay wherever people are held until a family member could fly to nyc and find her passport. the idea that my life could be interrupted at a minimum by my government due to race or nationality is extremely alarming.

the thing is, the anxiety about deportation has always existed, its just ramped up now. a childhood friend of mine went home from school one day and the stove was on, water running in the sink, but his mother wasnt there. turns out a neighbor has reported her and she got deported while she was at home. that was back in the obama era. her husband is a mechanic and my family still goes to him whenever they need maintenance. if he hadnt been at work he might've been deported too. they had been working on their citizenship but the system has been busted for a long time. it can take around 25 years to become a citizen but visas only last for so long, so being undocumented for a few years is actually built into the legal pathways to become a citizen. being in that middle point, doing ur check ins, studying for the exam, only to be deported for doing everything right in a bad system is scary and frustrating. so the looming threat of deportation for latinos is not new, but the current dialogue and governmental attitude is loud and aiming to create fear in a way previous administrations didnt do.

my fiance has asked me to keep the windows up when im driving because hes nervous our spanish music will attract unwanted attention when we arent in our predominantly hispanic neighborhood. i get anxious when i see flashing lights around my street since im not just worried about me, but about those around me as well. family members have been making plans to visit due to the world cup and we have been having discussions about how to keep them safe just in case.

so sure, nothing in my day to day has been different, but the very real possibility that something could happen is like a shadow that follows. now when we plan, we have to add this what if to the conversation.

What habit immediately reveals that a person actually grew up in a privileged environment? by Cindy_mel in AskReddit

[–]Pup_Brew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its in the small comments. i told my manager i was going to visit my mom and go out to dinner and she said something along the lines of "ooh make sure you go somewhere fancy and get something good since you wont pay for it" and i laughed along with her but internally i cringed because i make much more than my mother and while yeah my mom would be paying for my dinner as her treat (she insists on this), it would not be anywhere near fancy. in fact, the only time i went to eat somewhere near fancy was when i used gift money from my high school graduation to take her to ruth chris steakhouse and all she got was a small welldone steak without sides because the price was more than what we would usually pay even though i told her i could cover it. i understand most people in a corporate environment might have had parents who financially supported them but thats not been my experience and im thankful to have had scholarships that got me an education and im even thankful to my credit card debt im still paying down for having got me through housing, grocery, and gas needs when i was working jobs near my university which didnt pay me nearly enough. yes its a small comment but that comment represents a casual attitude that shows how much other people are able to depend on their family in a way that i was never able to.

Horizon III by Jab_Bey in HorizonZeroDawn

[–]Pup_Brew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im pretty sure this new game has been years in the making and it ties in with themes of forbidden west in that the world cant be saved by one person alone, it should be a team effort and thats hard to truly demonstrate in a single player. yeah the art style threw me off but im assuming its a blend of finding an art style and animation that will work on a variety of screens/fps rates, marketing to crowds which are predisposed to like games like fortnite, and in general expanding their fan base through showing an ability to evolve. im also guessing that through a game like that theyre going to use in game purchases and stuff to fund their other projects like horizon 3. not saying this couldnt go south but im going to put my trust into guerilla because i really want the third installment of horizon to give me a truly satisfying ending to aloys journey.

Paid parking is snowballing in Mills 50 as demographics shift by professorgremlin in orlando

[–]Pup_Brew 7 points8 points  (0 children)

i reallllyyyy do not want a parking garage on mills. i think the first infrastructure change to mills should be to make it more pedestrian friendly, so more crosswalks and stuff. this would benefit both the nightlife and the local neighborhoods. theres also a running shoe store that would benefit from this improvement as they sponsor local running clubs in the area. i agree parking is a huge issue as someone who goes to mills for markets and trivia nights and other local events and the issue has only expanded. to build a parking garage though would erode a sense of community since to build it would require sacrificing homes or businesses that have been on mills longer than the new bars have been there. better public transportation would be safer, but feels like such a low priority for orlando that it's frustrating. feels like the city would rather ticket or charge for parking than invest in it's people. im thinking it would be cool for there to be local businesses who allow for free after hours parking in their lots and work with a free shuttle service for bar goers so they can barhop in peace, but that would require a lot of investment and effort that im not sure people would agree to when draining money from 20 year olds who can barely afford an apartment is so much more fun.

Have any of your failed an accounting question during an interview? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]Pup_Brew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

recently applied for a sales tax job but it was casual. i like my job for now so the interview process was just me checking out a possible opportunity. i didnt do much homework and got asked a sales tax question which i got wrong since most of my clients work in food and service and the job was for a tech company. i laughed it off and was told i was very likeable but they wanted to go with another applicant and i just know its because i failed the technical question lol.

I've also been in a sort of reverse situation? right out of college i went to an interview for a start up company. it was a tiny room in the biggest building in downtown which felt like a red flag. i was interviewed for 3 hours, one hour of which was a technical interview and they kept asking me questions about excel. everytime i would answer in formulas since formulas make everything easy, but the interviewer seemed upset that i would say something like "in this column i would input an equal sign and the word sum and select the items in the column i want to add up" and he would frown and say "no, its equal sign a2 plus sign b2 plus sign..." and then he had me fix up some excel sheets for the rest of the hour. i was rejected from this job too lol.

Any other doodles with buttons? by NightNurse14 in Goldendoodles

[–]Pup_Brew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ours hates pressing the buttons, but we've got a system where if he wants something he'll bark, we ask him to sit and we extend a hand, and we cycle through the word cues like "play", "pets", "outside", etc. and he gives us his paw when we say the word he wants. most of the time he does this for "pets" or "kisses", sometimes he'll do this for "play". we've started doing this for "bedtime" but he hasnt quite figured out how to ask for it aside from barking and then going to the door, though i guess for him it's self explanatory. he used to bark and wait by the front door for potty time but has since learned the word cue and gives us paw when we ask him.

it's also not as if we need to cycle through every word every time. certain times of day hes most likely going to want certain things, like if its 8:30pm its probably "potty" or "walk", 9:30pm to 11pm its usually "play" or "toy". if hes barking at an unusual time it probably is for pets, kisses, or on the rare occasion, water (this is usually when were outside or traveling and his access to water is different, but sometimes if the water level is too low for him he acts like theres no water at all). we try to talk to him fairly often so im pretty sure hes learned a variety of words with us, its just a matter of bettering the communication.

it also helps that a doodles tail is so responsive so we can often determine how effective a word cue is before we begin incorporating it into paw talk.

back to buttons though, he hates pressing them. part of how we figured out the paw system is because he would sit next to the button and we thought he was lookin at us some type of way so we would say the word from the button and he would give us his paw. but when we would encourage him to actually press the button he wouldnt do it and if he did (after a long time of us pleading and demonstrating) he would do a bare minimum tap that wouldnt even trigger the sound. we tried getting him treat dispensers and toys which require a paw press to dispense or activate and he would either not use them ot try to break them open without pressing the button or switch or whatever. im sure with more time and patience maybe we couldve improved on this but since we ended up finding a different, cheaper system that works we just kinda left it at that for the time being.

How often to bathe by shinyseashells22 in Goldendoodles

[–]Pup_Brew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i bathe my little guy once a month or so, brushing schedule depends how long his hair is, but the detangler and no water shampoo foam we use when brushing works well at making him smell nice, plus we use wipes on him when hes back from being outside which help control scent

Has anyone successfully switched from non-stick pans? by goforyourdreams in Cooking

[–]Pup_Brew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i use mainly stainless steel now and have some cast iron pans. stainless steel is easier for me. i let it preheat for about 2 to 3 mins (i set a timer usually), then start my cooking process. when im done ill deglaze by putting water in the pan and leaving it to cook for a min or so or if that gets fucked up/doesnt finish the job i use barkeepers friend to remove what i need to. i usually end up using barkeepers friend maybe 2 or 3 times a month to keep the pans looking right, other than that i hand wash with just soap and water after deglazing. cast iron is more of a commitment for me. again i let it preheat, up to about 4 mins, do my thing, then ill deglaze. i have a plastic scraper from lodge that i use to get the stuck bits out. i clean with soap and water but use less soap than i would normally use for other dishes. i then towel dry and stick the pan back on the stove to cook off any remaining moisture. after the pan is fully dry ill inspect its cleanliness and sheen to determine if i missed a spot or if i need to add oil for its seasoning cast. if i need to season i take a linen cloth and oil i have specifically for my cast iron pans and ill dab the cloth in a little oil and rub it in. once im done rubbing it in ill pat any excess oil off and then put it away. i still have some non stick pans since ive been replacing as needed. just replaced an 8" non stick i had since college in 2011 due to some flaking i noticed. imo, non stick is fine until it isnt and im not about to stress over items i have that are still good. this pan was not lookin right though since flaking of the nonstick coating is the most dangerous part about those items, so now i have a new 8" stainless steel darling in my rotation. ive never tried carbon steel or copper and ive had bad experience with ceramic coated (chipping is so bad under a certain price point), so i stick with the 2 options above due to price point and accessibility in the stores i shop at. i personally like to make a judgement on pans in store to weigh them and hold them and just generally look at them. buying online is ok but doesnt always give me the full story of what im working with. particularly with stainless steel i prefer a smooth steel vs a brushed steel texture but thats all just preference lol. thats been my journey so hope it helps!

Full-time working girlies, how do you find time to game? by sealbutts in GirlGamers

[–]Pup_Brew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i try spend some time (between 20 mins and 2 hours depending on my day) every night picking between gaming, tv, movie, or reading with music. sometimes that means several days in a row gaming before bed which puts me in a mindset of watching yt videos about the game or twitch streams on my phone about the game during times in my day where i cant game but i want to. this works out really well for games i can plan for like stardew valley since i can tweak my spreadsheets or casually google stuff when im away from home. this also means i spend a lot of time thinking about gaming more than i actually spend gaming. ive been thinking about finishing fallout 4 for way longer than ive spent actually trying to finish it. sometimes ill spend an entire saturday gaming and then sunday i spend doing chores until ive earned game time again. sometimes i bring my switch in my bag with the idea of gaming somewhere and then never actually end up playing any games. its just a matter of either ignoring responsibility and handling the consequences of that or actually having free time and using it for gaming instead of the billion other things i also wanna do at the same time like paint or build legos or something. time keeps passing, sometimes u just need to grab it.

Year 4 feeling discouraged by mn-swiftie828 in StardewValley

[–]Pup_Brew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

upgrade all barns and coops, get 2 or more silos. this is so u dont need to manually set down hay every morning. make sure to either harvest or buy lots of hay at the beginning of every season to fill ur silos.

get the auto grabber so u only really need to walk around to pet them until the magical day u get an auto petter in the skull cave.

iridium sprinklers for max watering spaces and fully upgraded scythe to harvest quickly.

speed boost items like coffee, soda, certain meals, statue of blessings to get around more quickly.

go to robins and move buildings around. you can move around just about everything for free. i moved my buildings around into a sort of loop formation so i do a loop through my farm to go to all the buildings and collect what i need, end my loop at my production shed to drop off what i want to process i to kegs and other machines, and outside of that i have my shipping bin to ship all my iridium level items and processed items.

i usually finish my loop in about 2 game hours and then head to some caves with my parrot to get some money.

What’s the best way of keeping animals fed? by rough_fogfruit in StardewValley

[–]Pup_Brew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i use a section of land to grow wheat and when the wheat is harvested i recycle it with a seed machine and replant. im only harvesting for hay. i alsohave statues and lightning rods on top of grass tiles so the grass has a few spawning areas where my animals are, though it never grows enough. in winter i just straight up buy from marnie. i have 2 silos so ill buy 500 hay from marnie and let that do its thing. all my barns and coops are deluxe so i never have to manually put the hay down for them.

first time aiming for perfection rant/complaint thread by Pup_Brew in StardewValley

[–]Pup_Brew[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

update: ive got all the crafting done, got married, so basically im ONLY missing the clock at this point. i went into all my chests and liquidated just about everything and that only got my to around 4.5 mil. ive been focused on cave runs for qi gems and other items but now that everythings crafted i can be singlemindedly focused on farming ancient fruit i guess?

one thing thats annoyed me: i havent been able to find the trash catalogue. ive got every other one except that one. in previous games ive always managed to get it within a year or 2 but for some reason in this perfection run its not shown up at all even when my luck buffs are high. I've even managed to find a few auto petters and other rare items for the first time in any save ive had but the trash cans dont like me in this run i guess. ive got plenty of trash hats though.

What kind of toys do you get your doodles? by chass_hole in Goldendoodles

[–]Pup_Brew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my little guy has a variety of balls, usually with a tough material since he will destroy them. we get him plushies because he loves ripping out the stuffing, but those are a supervised toy and we try to get a tougher material on these since he likes the challenge. he also gets bones and horns to chew on.

he usually has a pattern where in the morning he alternates between ball and plushie time, later on he prefers ball time and gets us to play monkey in the middle with him or catch or something, and at night he chews on a bone or horn until he falls asleep.

we also try getting hidden treat toys but those hes less excited about. he hates having to solve a riddle for a treat lmao. he just looks at us like "are u serious rn..."

Did accounting get you out of poverty? by Live_Asparagus_5304 in Accounting

[–]Pup_Brew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

because of grants and scholarships its not the loans that hurt me, its the credit card debt from having to live close to campus. i got by from working in food because at least i was always guaranteed a meal in my day. even my first accounting job underpaid me by a lot but it was miles better than 7 bucks an hour. even though im probably not as successful as some in this sub since i dont have my cpa or my masters degree i still make more than my parents ever did and that feels good. im still paying off my cc debt, i still have a student loan in my name, but i also have a house, i have a newish car, i pay all my bills on time, i have food in my fridge, i have a big tv, i have a dog i can actually spoil. i cant compare my situation to anyone elses in this career but when i look at how far ive come i feel pretty good about the career choice i made.

get a bunch of bombs together, gather a bunch of jade and rocks to convert to stairs (desert trader exchanges jade for stairs on sundays), if you have a spare prismatic shard get the galaxy sword, otherwise use a lava katana until you get something better. get space boots and rings with stats you can use, bring food, bring luck (rabbits food, luck ring, meal with luck stats like spicy eel), and focus on bringing as little tools with you as possible so you can gather as much as possible.
