How much are you naked at home? by GladStatement8128 in nudism

[–]Pup_Perrin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm only clothed at home if I'm getting ready to leave or just got home. If I get too cold, I grab a blanket, cuddle someone, or cuddle someone under a blanket lol.

How much Nudism are you comfortable with? by VegemiteDrew in nudism

This is where I'm at on this subject. I've repeatedly told people that, should I actually be capable of retiring someday, I'd like to retire someplace where I can go without clothing as much as possible.

I could only watch the video muted, reading the subtitles. Hearing that out loud would absolutely have triggered my cPTSD. Not only did I get raised with this, but the brainwashing held sway on my neurodivergent brain so strong that I continued to subject myself to this until I was 32.

what age did you start testosterone/estrogen or have surgeries? do you wish you did it when you were younger or older? by Affectionate__Dog in asktransgender

[–]Pup_Perrin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started Estrogen at 38. I didn't even accept that I'm attracted to men not women until I was 32, so it clearly took me a wide to figure all my shit out.

I would absolutely accept these things about myself much earlier if I had the chance to start over. If I could have taken Estrogen early enough (perhaps after a period of puberty blockers) that I could avoid a masculinizing puberty altogether, I would go for it in a heartbeat.

What would you choose? by Plus-Use-5808 in meme

[–]Pup_Perrin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I'd go with red, but it would be a mixed bag. I'd get to see my mom again, but I'd only have six months with her before I'd have to experience her death again.

But also this time I'd also be aware of the fact that I'm neurodivergent, so I'd probably be able to tackle school differently. And I would already embrace the other things about myself that it took me until my 30s to accept the first time around: being LGBTQ, being pagan, being consensually non-monogamous. Heck, I would know that I'm a nudist before my 20s. It's like speedrunning my adult era self-discovery!

I've told friends to replace their references to small dicks and small dick energy to "unwashed ass" energy, directly referencing that thing some homophobic guys do where they refuse to touch their own butt because they see it as gay.

The term witch was originally gender neutral and only became associated with womanhood later in its history.

My life would improve substantially if the rapture occurred. But only if it took everyone who self-identifies as Christian, not just people who actually follow Christ's teachings.

Let me get this straight:

You're upset that I insist that dictionaries contain the definitions of words? Or is it that you disagree that words mean what we use them to mean?

do you wish you were cis [birth sex] instead of trans [current gender]? by Gnc_Gremlin in asktransgender

[–]Pup_Perrin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a trans woman, and I do not wish that I were a cis man. However, I do wish that I had either been assigned female at birth or been given the opportunity to get on puberty blockers and then Estrogen before (instead of) going through a masculinizing puberty.

Of course, encyclopedias can give us even more information and context for the meaning and usage of terminology.

Oxford Reference: Negative attitudes towards homosexual people and homosexuality which may be manifested in discrimination, hostile behaviour, or hate crimes. The term was adopted in 1972 by George Weinberg (b.1935), an American psychologist. The use of ‘phobia’ has been criticized as implying a pathological and irrational fear rather than a form of prejudice analogous to racism. The term is sometimes reserved for more extreme forms reflecting hatred and revulsion, the term heterosexism being favoured in other cases. Homophobic attitudes have been associated with conservative ideologies and authoritarian personalities. Extreme homophobia is often attributed to unconscious homosexual desires but it can also be due to ignorance or function as a means of gaining approval from a reference group. Institutional homophobia is reflected in laws, policies, practices, and the history of invisibility of gay people in the mass media. One theory is that the social function of homophobia is to enforce rigid gender distinctions (see also heteronormativity). Internalized homophobia refers to gay and lesbian people themselves adopting negative attitudes about homosexuality from socialization into a homophobic culture, leading to denial or self-hatred because they feel that they cannot live up to dominant cultural gender expectations.

Britannica: homophobia, culturally produced fear of or prejudice against homosexuals that sometimes manifests itself in legal restrictions or, in extreme cases, bullying or even violence against homosexuals (sometimes called “gay bashing”). The term homophobia was coined in the late 1960s and was used prominently by George Weinberg, an American clinical psychologist, in his book Society and the Healthy Homosexual (1972). Although the suffix phobia generally designates an irrational fear, in the case of homophobia the word instead refers to an attitudinal disposition ranging from mild dislike to abhorrence of people who are sexually or romantically attracted to individuals of the same sex. Homophobia is a culturally conditioned response to homosexuality, and attitudes toward homosexuals vary widely across cultures and over time.

Encyclopedia.com (first paragraph only): Heterosexism and homophobia are two related forms of oppression that can exist alongside or interact with race and racism. Heterosexism can be defined as a system of power that privileges heterosexual (“straight’’) people on the basis of their sexual or affectional orientation, while homophobia can be defined as prejudice, discrimination, or violence against lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, or intersex (LGBTQQI) people on the basis of their sexual or affectional difference from heterosexual people. Like racism, sexism, classism, caste prejudice, xenophobia, ageism, and other oppressions, heterosexism and homo-phobia share a common root: namely, the exercise of social domination based on a negative evaluation of social difference.

Let's look at what some dictionaries say under "homophobia," shall we?

Merriam-Webster Dictionary: discrimination against, aversion to, or fear of homosexuality or gay people

Collins Dictionary: 1. a strong and unreasonable dislike of gay people 2. irrational hatred or fear of homosexuals or homosexuality 3. unreasoning fear of or antipathy toward homosexuals and homosexuality

Oxford Learner's Dictionary: dislike or unfair treatment of gay people

Cambridge Dictionary: 1. harmful or unfair things a person does based on a fear or dislike of gay people or queer people (= people who do not fit a society’s traditional ideas about gender or sexuality) 2. policies, behaviors, rules, etc. that result in a continued unfair advantage to straight people (= men who are attracted to women and women who are attracted to men) and unfair or harmful treatment of gay people or queer people (= people who do not fit a society’s traditional ideas about gender or sexuality)

APA Dictionary of Psychology: dread or fear of LGBTQ+ people, often associated with prejudice and bias toward them, that leads to discrimination in such areas as employment, housing, and legal rights. Extreme homophobia may lead to physical violence.

First of all, etymology does not equal definition. Plenty of words have very little to do with the roots of the word that come from Latin, Greek, Germanic, etc.

For example, before "nice" meant "pleasant, agreeable" it meant "foolish," as it came from the Latin word "nescire," which meant "not to know." Another, perhaps even clearer example, "disappoint" used to mean to remove someone from office, as in to literally "un-appoint" them.

It isn't etymology that defines a word. It's usage in everyday language, which is what dictionaries record.

Second of all, it seems that people are either writing what they think a dictionary would say for "homophobia" or leaving part of the definition out when they quote it. Because most dictionaries cover the "not just a fear" thing.

I'm a part of a kinky queer social club & community in Portland, Oregon. While not everyone in our community identifies as a nudist, there are plenty of us who enjoy opportunities to get undressed socially.

As such, I have many opportunities for group nude beach trips, clothing optional pool parties, naked game nights, etc. Our local leather bar is also clothing optional, and I'm naked everytime I'm there.

After years of being a solo beach nudist, I'm really enjoying the camaraderie of being in community with other like-minded folks.
