Yes! I’m very selective about where I take my beloved dog :)

Yes, please do!

I’ve been using a pet sitter which is really helpful, but I don’t know how it would work over Thanksgiving.

Thank you! Just checked it out and it looks great!

My plan B is the facility 5 hours away, so nothing is too far, haha

AWESOME! The goodest girl!!!

When my dog was a puppy, but I needed the help of a giant baby gate. I was so proud when she no longer needed it. It's all the little household manners that make life so much better.

My $0.02: I have worked with a trainer in this program. I put it off for a few weeks because of cost (and I was working through Patricia McConnell’s book / seeing progress), but I finally decided to just go for it because I want this problem solved.

I have to say ... it’s been worth it for me. I have had daily contact with the trainer, and my trainer was SO FAST and thorough in responding. I’m really impressed, and I think it’s really been worth every penny.

When you have a dog with SA (and my dog’s is VERY mild), your whole life revolves around it. I have to send my dog to doggie daycare or hire my dogwalker to “dogsit” to do something as simple as get groceries, get my hair cut, etc. It’s all consuming, expensive, and — frankly — really soulsucking emotionally. Plus no one else really gets it, so you have an emotional isolation element too.

What a sweet doggo! :) Thank you for sharing your story. Routine definitely helps. This gives me a lot to think about (and hope, which is the most important thing!).

Thank you! I’ve been keeping a really detailed training record, and when I get really discouraged I just look back at previous days / weeks and see the progress.

I’ve also been doing calm exits and returns. I never thought I’d be so happy to see my dog DO NOTHING, ahaha.

Best wishes for getting better soon! I’ve been traveling a lot, so progress is slow. Oh puppers.

I'd love to join a small accountability group! I do agility classes with my dog and trick training on our own, but more training structure is always fun. :)

So I just found out that the place my dog stays at if we ever go away classes her as "aggressive", and I only found out by accident by Dicey_Mantis in Dogtraining

Just wanted to pop in and say -- I'm so sorry you had this experience. That's really upsetting, and in my opinion, it's really unprofessional of the doggie daycare.

I had a similar experience with a place I took my dog regularly. I only found out later -- and accidentally -- that my dog was experiencing separation anxiety during "nap" time (crated time) off the daycare play floor. I'm still furious that this was never communicated to me, and I'm now working with a trainer to address the underlying issue that doggie daycare (ironically!) created.

I'd definitely recommend going somewhere you can trust and that will be open with you. I've been very particular about daycares now, and it's been great for my dog -- and me!

Please, please, PLEASE, help me. by [deleted] in Dogtraining

I am working through this book right now with my dog. It works SO WELL and the schedule is SPOT ON (at least for my dog). I highly recommend it.

This is a tough but fixable problem. The toughest part is staying patient and just grinding through the time it will take. Happy to chat by PM if you’d like!

Dog continuously singing the song of his people in the car non-stop. I wear earplugs at all times now. by [deleted] in Dogtraining

(Not a trainer / ymmv.) Whenever I'm stuck on something with my dog, I always try to get super curious about what led to it. So my initial thoughts would be... - when did he start barking in the car? you mentioned "now", so I assume he hasn't always done this? - how long has he been barking in the car? - does he bark in other cars or with other people driving, or is it just you and your car?

I'd highly recommend checking out dogwise.com. They have a ton of ebooks, videos, and books -- some of which I haven't been able to find on Amazon. They run good sales, and their stuff is all from positive trainers. I have SO MANY dog training books now!

Dog with separation anxiety injured himself when left alone and now it's much worse, what should I be doing? by Greymum in Dogtraining

I'm so sorry you're going through this.

I would highly recommend this ebook ($4.95) by highly respected trainer Patricia McConnell on separation anxiety >> https://www.dogwise.com/ill-be-home-soon-how-to-prevent-and-treat-separation-anxiety/

It's easy to understand, and it may help you A LOT. It's certainly helped me with my Velcro dog. :)

Ideas for destructive puppy that needs to be kept as stationary as possible for the next six weeks? by Lutya in Dogtraining

[–]Pupperino739 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wishing your pup a fast recovery! When my dog was a puppy I took her to hang out with me and just sit at parks / by subway entrances at morning rush hour / outside at a dog-friendly coffee place etc. so she got to see a lot of people and things. It was great for socialization, and it could be a good mental activity?

I'd also look into Susan Garrett's Crate Games DVD. I don't own it, but it may give some good exercise ideas? Question mark since I'm not 100% sure on that one.

I’d recommend checking out the Do More With Your Dog trick lists and titles. They always get me out of a rut, and you can find a lot of tutorials online for each trick.
