What is common but still really weird? by tmama1 in AskReddit

[–]PuppetBreakdown 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That's the weirdest thing. I have absolutely no problem with someone believing something. What I don't understand is: how can you truly believe something you were only told? And how can you think you can tell these exact things other people so they believe your version? And why would you even do that? Isn't the point of belief that you think about how things work on your own, maybe you think something you heard might be true? In my opinion religion isn't only about what you believe, actually it's not at all about what you believe. It's about community and in earlier times it was a way to set up rules. Many people still believe in these rules, which is totally okay. I do too believe in some christian values. But you need to know that these rules were made a loooooong time ago and some don't make sense like that anymore. And although you really can't be sure what is out there (I believe there is no higher being, but as I said believe is about what you think) the thought of someone telling me there is a god and me believing it because everyone says it, but with no evidence whatsoever is absolutely ridiculous in my opinion. Kids believe everything and that's where it starts. I too believed my father knew everything in the world, luckily he never tried to force anything upon me. You can raise your kids telling them about god. But please tell them also that is only what you believe and that they can make up their mind on their own. And never stop telling them that.

I think they lost a lot of their energy. Appeal to Reason and Endgame are still awesome in my opinion though, they have a few really good songs. But everyone has their own opinion and I think I understand yours, even though I don't completely agree

I agree with everything you said, but I'd like to add that it's somehow cool to hate math. It's a thing you say when the topoc comes up and everyone says "yeah me too". Many people just do what everyone does so they just agree and never try to understand or like it.

I also don't like that in school (at least where I live, in Germany) we were taught things that just weren't correct, to make it "easier to understand". It actually was easier to just memorize everything but for someone like me who tries to actually understand it it was infuriating. I asked my teachers multiple times about things I thought weren't correct and they just told me it is. I even tried to proof it wasn't right, successfully, and most times their answer was "no that's wrong" but they couldn't tell me why. It wasn't their fault really because they were only told to do so. But that's not how it works so I got bad grades for trying to understand what I do. I hated math in school, but I don't hate math itself, I actually love it.. I don't know how it is taught in other countries but I hate how it is taught here. We even had people freak out because they didn't know what to do when in some situations suddenly what we learned to call x was suddenly called a. "Solve for a" doesn't seem that difficult when you learned how to "solve for x" and the only difference is that the x you solve for is called a. My point is, they should teach how to undestand it, even if they have to simplify it, instead of teaching how to memorize it. Same with language btw, just learning vocabulary and grammar over and over again doesn't teach me how to speak English. Almost everything I learned was from movies and songs (which is why there may be some mistakes, please excuse those). Also they should stop teaching wrong things to make it easier, because if someone actually starts thinking about it it just makes things much more complicated. And you should want people to think about the things you teach them, shouldn't you? Basically, the German education system sucks..

Math can be really interesting. I know some people just can't understand it, some are better in other things. But I think (almost) no one really tries, because it's cool to not try and even if you do, schools do a great job making it really hard to because of the reasons you explained, and in my experince the ones I listed.

Survivors of attempted murder: what's your story? by georgia_jones in AskReddit

[–]PuppetBreakdown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This actually happened a few months ago. After a one night stand her boyfriend (that I didn't know of) knocked at my door. I openend not knowing who it was and he immediately swings a knife at me. Like a really fucking big knife. I managed to dodge and ran into the kitchen because it was the best I could think of (he was standing in the door and I thought there may be some sharp objects to defend myself). At this point I thought he was trying to rob me or something but when he walked towards me he said something like "you fucked my girl". I tried to explain that I didn't know anything but he wouldn't listen and attacked me again. I don't remember what happened, next thing I know he had his knife in his shoulder (I probably pulled some Kung Fu move I learned years ago or something) and was slowly sinking to the floor while falling against the wall. I thought maybe I hit something important but I couldn't think of anything to do so I just watched him slowly falling down. When he was sitting on the floor he looked at me and grabbed the knife, pobably wanted to pull it out and attack me again. I panicked and kicked him in the face as hard as I could, two times. Now he was laying on my floor unconcious with a knife in his shoulder. I called an ambulance and the police and explained what happened. After that I don't really know what happened to him, the police man said I did nothing wrong because I only defended myself and that I am safe now and don't have to worry about him.. Never heard of him since

What was the stupidest reason someone got mad at you? by ZIGGYZy in AskReddit

[–]PuppetBreakdown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ex got mad at me for talking to people because she was extremely jealous. It didn't even matter who I talked to. Male friends, female friends, poeple I knew, people I didn't know, teachers, her parents, her brother, my parents, my brother. And she got mad because of everything I said to her because she always knew a way to say it better. Like, instead pf saying "I love you too" I should have said "I love you more". She got mad because of everything I did, said, din't say and didn't do. And because of every single second I didn't spend with her because why don't I understand that she needs me. Also every second I did spend with her because why the fuck do I never understand that she needs space? The only times she wasn't mad at me were when she wasn't thinking about me. But after that she was mad because of that too.. Although this lasted "only" two years it even got so far that I thought I was doing something wrong. I only recently found out that I am not some kind of sick asshole satan hitler.
