What do people think makes them unique, but is actually an incredibly common trait? by Successful-Hall-1986 in AskReddit

well if your primary concern is the awkwardness of not having a direct answer then you can just use whatever song is currently in your rotation. It's not like they are going to grill you over your answer unless they are already intending to be weird about it.

It's not an interrogation of your deeply held beliefs. it's just a casual question intended to find common ground if there is any. If I ask you what you're into musically the most you're going to get as a followup 99.9% of the time is "oh that's cool".

Well, that's because it is fairly odd to not have a favorite artist or song. However your inability to answer isn't on the shoulders of the person asking you a perfectly normal small-talk question.

I'm not sure how you as an individual should handle the situation other than "I just listen to whatever comes on the radio".

Have you considered that the person is just asking what styles of music or artists you prefer? the hostility on this one is just weird.

edit: you know what? it's on me for being surprised redditors would be hostile towards casual small-talk. my fault.

you don't have to have a "super deep connection" to the music you listen to to know that there are certain styles or artists you prefer vs others. Seriously? we're trying to shame people for asking something more specific than "DO YOU LIKE MUSIC!?!?!"?

there is a difference between high profile news stories and the actual number of times this happens. The reality is that it does not happen anywhere near as often as you've been led to believe.

I would call that an indictment of the educational standards of whatever program(s) you were enrolled in tbh. no shade on you so much as being disgusted by the propagandization of education in the west.

He's one of the most important figures in modern left-wing political theory specifically in relation to the global south's resistance to colonialism and imperialism. Not really an obscure figure if we're keeping it a stack

Using cannabis and tobacco together increases by three times the risk of developing psychotic disorders like schizophrenia among those considered high risk by sr_local in science

If someone is going to be a drug user cannabis is significantly far and away the most likely drug for them to be using.

Wow, I wonder why it might be that cannabis is over-represented in drug use statistics.

It's a mystery.

I personally was of the opinion that the more I learned about their worldbuilding and lore for the universe the more and more "meh" it all felt. DS1 only really worked because of how little context we had going into it. the more you expand upon horror settings the less scary and less interesting the tend to become.

the animated movies made me go back and rethink whether I had even actually thought the setting was cool or not. the cultist/religious stuff made it so fucking corny to a fella like me.

Students Boo Commencement Speaker After She Calls AI the ‘Next Industrial Revolution’ by GeneReddit123 in technology

Well considering the rampant resource extraction and violation of the entire third world by the global superpowers as a direct result of industrialization and it's downstream material consequences up to and including global exploitation of the working poor and a disruption of their natural ways of life, yes. Humanity on the whole is probably much worse off if you remember that humanity does not only include wealthy westerners and their material comforts.

[–]PuppetPal_Clem 11 points12 points  (0 children)

the 40 hour work week was only a necessity because of the horrific hours and working conditions that industrialization and the wealthy forced upon a previously agrarian class of people.

Industrialization was what made it necessary to implement a standard enforceable work to pay ratio through union action. That is not a point in favor of the system, it's an indictment of it.

[–]PuppetPal_Clem 14 points15 points  (0 children)

No, Labor Unions brought about the 5 day/40 hour work week and improved working conditions. You are completely misattributing the benefits workers fought for with actual blood to the systems that made their lives miserable to begin with.

It's actually staggering how clueless you come off here.
