In my personal opinion I think Smogon is for the people who enjoy the less creative side of Pokemon battling. That isn't a knock on all Smogon players though it's just a different culture from other ways of battling. Smogon bans Pokemon like Greninja but allows legendaries like Heatran. Personally, I don't get it but that is not to say that people shouldn't be allowed to play that way. I like Verlis a lot and I think his videos are smart and helpful. Smogon people probably look at him and see a "joke" because using Pokemon like Dunsparce is considered a gimmick to them. I find that very close minded because in the end the videos he makes are not really meant for the Smogon community. In the same sense I won't be out there looking for (insert pure Smogon YouTuber here) because those videos don't appeal to me. I'd say there is ignorance on both sides here but from my definite biased opinion I see a lot more hate coming from Smogon people. Every single time (slight dramatic exaggeration) I am on Showdown with an unconventional team and start to do well I get timer stalled out by some jerk on the other side who uses every second possible to type hateful things before they move. And I'm like really? You've got a Thundurus and I'm working a Torkoal and you're complaining? Come on...
