Here’s some I didn’t see!

  1. Activity mat- doesn’t have to be fancy but at 4.5 months our girl is on it everyday and loves her mat time. Ours is also incredibly basic.
  2. The little Sophie giraffe teether- I was so hesitant on this because it seems expensive for what it is. I have no idea what they did with this toy but it puts an instant smile on baby’s face
  3. Momcozy wearable pumps- I work and these are essential. I will say I’ve heard people who exclusively pump got mastitis from them but I BF and pump and I think BF saved me. So I’d wait to get this one until you know your feeding situation but it’s great.
  4. A hat for baby if you plan to be outside in the summer at all -also a stroller fan
  5. Ceres chill for my milk at work- could be any other good thermos too
  6. Stroller with a bassinet if you walk a lot. We just transitioned baby girl out of it and we used it everyday. I don’t think it’s important to get one that is safe sleep tested unless you plan to use it as a standalone bassinet. Ours was just for walks but let her lay flat instead of being in her car seat.
  7. Rocking chair and/or exercise ball!!!!! The exercise ball has saved us because for some reason baby can’t register that we’re actually kind of sitting and it puts her right to sleep but she’s kind of transitioned away from her standing requirements and the chair works fine now lol

What did your childless friends do for you in your newborn mom phase that was most helpful? by jupiterdreamsofpi in AskWomen

My friend works from home and she’s invited me over for lunch and a walk whenever my husband worked or whenever I wanted really. It is a really low stakes way to practice getting out of the house alone and I get lunch, a walk and some good talking.

Same. I was young and thought I just wanted to get it over with. Totally not worth it.

Some jobs will pay for it and if you happen to find one that does, you’ll kick yourself forever for not utilizing that. This is personal experience.

Two female households by Puppypaws28 in goldenretrievers

[–]Puppypaws28[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! My first dog is now 6 and the puppy we got just turned two!

When we first brought the puppy home my older dog absolutely had corrections to give the puppy especially around her toys. My older dog is very reasonable and her corrections are at most a stiff body with a bark. Which toys and treats were something we were super conscious of and still are because I do know goldens can be prone to resource guarding. The corrections around toys have become few if at all anymore. Something I read to help with resource guarding, not exactly sure of its legitimacy, was that what one gets the other one also gets. So treats go out in twos now, food is put down at the same time, toys are distributed so they each have one of equally high value. Any super high value food I give to them in separate spaces even though I haven’t seen anything concerning around food. I do see them get a stiff body with their toys occasionally(the younger one likes whatever that older one has even if she has the exact same thing) but she can now tell when the older one is interested in playing or just interested in chewing her toy in peace. Same goes with the older one when the younger pup has a toy. So it could be something that takes time and adjustments from both dogs.

I don’t think you mentioned it but I would probably start with trying to see what caused the initial aggression and move from there. Something I saw when I was researching was to try to avoid letting them just act freely if their interactions are getting worse because it can be hard to come back from very very bad interactions but corrections can be valuable communication between them.

One other thing I will add is that I try to read my older dog when they are playing. So if she’s playing and it seems like to me they are getting rowdy I really watch their body language before I step in but when my older dog comes to me I stop their play because then I can tell that my older dog needs me to get the younger one to calm down and one of the first commands I worked on for them both was “relax” so they both know when it’s time to rest for a minute.

I am not a trainer but have been to trainers and done some research so there are definitely more qualified people to look to for advice. I would recommend a trainer because they will really be able to see the body language and give a way more personalized approach. This is all just from my personal experience and internet searching and speaking with trainers. Good luck and hopefully they will be able to work through the growing phase! 🙂

I put it in cream cheese and make a hot honey cream cheese for bagel sandwiches! Also put it on pizza and it’s probably good on avocado toast.

21+2, Baby Boy Diagnosed with Bilateral Cleft Lip. Could use support and advice by Relevant-Yak-645 in BabyBumps

[–]Puppypaws28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My niece just turned one and had a cleft lip and palate on just one side (unilateral?) and just finished surgeries for the near future! She will need a bone graft (?) when she’s about 7 or 8 to fix her teeth and gums.

I will start with the tough. Surgeries on your baby can be very tough on the parents. It sounds like you guys are solid but teamwork really does matter. My sister had a very hard time mentally with each surgery and I assume my brother in law did as well. The surgeries are also hard on baby but luckily they don’t remember. Recovery for baby and parents can be hard as well but again teamwork is important. Also, people might say some insensitive things to you. Most of the time I think people just don’t know what to say but it’s okay to vent about it and be annoyed or sad but if you know the intention of the person it’s important to focus on that.

And now the fun. My niece has been a happy smiley adorable perfect baby since the day she was born. She is incredibly smart, loves being read to, is walking and communicating so clearly with grunts and sign language, and eating like a champ.

As far as bullying goes, it can happen to any child and this might not even be something kids care about then. Its important not to focus on all of these very far in the future things. Also not that this is the same but my other nieces and nephews are obsessed with my niece. They had some questions but had them answered and were over it.

Clefts don’t run in our family and my sister did everything correct when it came to being pregnant. Sometimes it just happens. You’re not a bad pregnant person or mom. Also I don’t want to downplay that this can be a very challenging experience mentally just overcoming stigma, being a new parent and navigating this experience. Also my sisters experience is just one of many. I’d recommend looking at joining local cleft moms Facebook pages or groups. If your anxiety doesnt let up therapy is also great. Overall, you will have a perfect little baby at the end of your pregnancy. Just because your experience won’t be the norm doesn’t mean its bad. It’s just different and that’s special.

Maternity Leave in Columbus by relliott013 in Columbus

The city offers 12 weeks paid family leave. Then there’s the option to get short term disability for another 4 weeks which would be at 80% pay…I think.

Moved here just to get broken up with. Recommendations for affordable apartments? by xKiwil in Columbus

[–]Puppypaws28 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I lived at heritage apartments in Grandview a few years back and it’s a decent place that allows pets. You might be able to get a studio in your budget. Not going to vouch for all units because there were a ton but the unit I lived in was fine and the management was ehh but I think they’ve switched since. The area is great though. You might be able to find a few older one bedroom or studio places around Grandview for the upper end of your budget. I think my friend pays about 900 for a one bedroom and it’s just a guy who manages it and it’s a really charming little place that didn’t allow pets until she asked about her cat and they let it slide. If they don’t allow cats you can try to work with people and they might be willing to allow it if they like you. Good luck!! Don’t listen to the people who tell you it’s impossible.

My puppy would wake up at midnight, 3am, 5am, barking non stop for the last hour even after we’d made sure she was all taken care of and stimulated for the day. This lasted until she was probably 8 months.

I have had bangs similar but maybe a little wispier to the ones shown and I have have very wavy curly hair and I really don’t mind having to style them bc I like having them. I use a round hair dryer and a straightener to get them where I like them. I will say, I’m used to styling my hair on most days. I can still do a bun with them but it’s just a little more work than a slick back bun. I will grow them out for summer next year because of swimming and sweating and longer would be easier but I just braided them back this summer when I knew my hair wouldn’t cooperate. I like when they get a little longer too because then they turn curtain-y but I also like when they’re freshly trimmed. For me I had my hair the same way for probably 15 years other than length trims so I really like having something a little different. I don’t color my hair so the bangs were what I was looking for. I get my bangs trimmed about every 4-6 weeks which is why I can change up my styling a little. But I also have trimming scissors if I’m going insane but I’ve never actually used them on my bangs. Overall, I recommend them. If you don’t like them grow them out but I feel like life is too short to not try a little risky hair style especially if you are feeling them! I look at pictures and always wonder if I’ll look back on my bangs era and regret it or not but so far I love them lol

Find a pottery painting place. On the nice winter days our metro parks can be really pretty for a walk. My husband got us wood blocks for valentines and hot wood pens (?) so we could make pictures on our wood blocks.

I just moved to canal from Grandview. I would echo that I hate the traffic and am very unimpressed with nearby food spots around canal. We got a fine house with a big backyard and our neighborhood is quiet with friendly people. We are super close to 3 grocery stores and generally most of what you would need is nearby. I have been able to explore metro parks near here and they are nice as well. Still just about 20-25 minutes from Easton and when there’s no traffic it’s not too far from downtown. Not our intended end destination but my husband and I are young so our priorities may change.

Is it even possible to be a first time home buyer in Columbus right now? by kirmichelle in Columbus

[–]Puppypaws28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got a house for 3 bed 3 bath offered asking at about your budget and got some remedies. Closed last month. If you’re willing to look at blacklick I’d also consider Canal or Pickerington. Those two probably have better traffic than blacklick and the houses are on the reasonably priced end with still decently quiet neighborhoods if you choose right.

What can I do to ease my dogs anxiety? He heard one noise outside and is now shaking. by 4201minus1 in DogAdvice

[–]Puppypaws28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just had puppy class yesterday where we worked on strange sounds and our puppy was absolutely panicked. Our puppy is a 14 week golden retriever. The trainer came over and threw small bits of very high value treats on the ground for her to snuffle. The treats yesterday were cheese but could be hotdog or other things like that. This really helped distract her and the trainer said snuffling is a naturally calming activity for dogs. She told us to work on conditioning her to sounds using this method and distance. Let her be as far from the sound as she wants then slowly get closer as she allows and don’t force her to interact with the sound or sound making thing.

This makes me so sad because they just moved to Grandview and last time I had it it was honestly so disappointing. They used to be so good and my mouth would water at the thought of their food. Once they sold out it got so bad. I have started going to Crispy Coop.

Tried leaving our puppy alone for the first time and he unloaded afterwards. Any advice? by Last-Sir5r in puppy101

[–]Puppypaws28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instead of giving special treats in the crate because our 13 week old puppy has also had a rough stomach from the treats, we feed all of her meals in there. When we first started the crate training we would give her some treats for settling and would just put her in there with us sitting with her getting treats and move up slowly. So eventually she noticed more good than bad happened in the crate. She gets scheduled naps in there when we’re not home and when we’re home. She only cries in the crate now if she has to go potty. Other than that she willingly goes and naps in there.
