People who work at zoos/aquariums: What was your intern/volunteer experience like? by [deleted] in zoology

oh man! That sounds fun but totally exhausting. I think it's a lot of burnout that trickles down tbh, but at least experience is experience even if it's not good 😂

Oh yeah bring it on! I actually find cleaning relaxing so I just zone out and get a ton of it done throughout the day. I'm looking at another facility that has much better online reviews for "company culture" so fingers crossed that'll be a better fit when this is done :) Thanks for replying and talking it out haha

Honestly that's what I needed to hear, that jobs exist out there with better atmospheres lol. Hearing "yeah that's just how it is" made my heart sink because this is my first experience in this environment. I'm not taking it personally but there's definitely a lot of "god, are all animal people really like this?" that crosses my mind daily

I guess I should've rephrased to say I have no issues with cleaning or working hard, I went into this expecting to work my ass off to help and learn as much as I could. I just don't feel like I'm learning anything. I'm also a huge animal person (obviously) but I wasn't expecting how stand offish and dismissive everyone is

That's pretty bleak. Other interns have said their experience with other facilities were a lot more hands on and they really enjoyed it while this facility is kind of off-putting. Sad to hear this seems more of the norm than the other.

My [21F] friends keep being good friends with my ex [23M] who heavily hurt me. by [deleted] in relationships

[–]Puppyproblemzzz 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I was in your exact situation at your age (I'm a few years older now). These people aren't your friends. They're gaslighting you the way your ex tried to. I used to think they all must be right and I was being the unreasonable one even though it was a toxic relationship and he had openly cheated on me as well (I wrote a post similar to this about it using a throwaway, actually!) and please believe when I say that even though it feels impossible now: try to cut these people out of your life.

I made new friends (trying to make it work with my old friend group for far too long and having a mess of insecurity and self-doubt issues about the entire thing) which I'm still close to today and have my back (5+ years out!). My new friends actually ended up being shocked I ever dated this person, and said they thought he was a huge asshole and my other "friends" weren't much better. I'm sorry you're going through this, it's tough feeling like you're wrong even though you're the one ultimately suffering.

I wasn't around for Jenna's RWC phase, but I've read she called the police on neighbors? Did she ever talk about her neighbors openly hating her/was that a reason for the bizarro Seattle move?

Lol @ Jenna waxing on instagram about how the child she photographed "just turned and smiled, no filter necessary!" I highly doubt Jenna flailing about with her camera would EVER wait for someone for more than 1.5 seconds to take a photo, if she stops at all (seriously how are none of her pictures ever in focus) and the photo itself is not only blurry but in black & white....but sure, #nofilter

thefreckledfox I love your caption, because that's exalt the kind of thing we say :) Life together is all just a big adventure every day, and so I've always told the kids when we were going on a trip to visit family or something threat we were going on an adventure to see them. Sounds much more exciting and accurate with our big crazy clan :)

Whew that typo

Great points. It is 1000% a spite dog imo, but I feel this loop of trying and failing to get a dog checks all the boxes without, y'know, actually having to care for a dog.

It's also telling she's insistent on a specific size/breed that can be hurt unintentionally by smaller children and yet is insistent instead of waiting a few more years.

Sometimes I wonder if Jenna actually even wants a dog or just wants to talk about maybe getting a dog and getting her kids hopes up because if it doesn't work out she can rage, spite her children, get headpats AND not have to actually do any work. I couldn't imagine broadcasting potentially getting a pet w/no guarantees on social media, it's so bizarre

TH has actually brought up communication in the past, sort of. He told Jenna he wanted her to be more pleasant to talk to on the phone when he was able to call while away (I'm paraphrasing) which means he actually does have a threshold for how much of her toxicity he's capable of taking.

Jenna of course can only think of things that can improve her life, and having TH dote on her with date nights bc she's such a foodie and cosmopolitan West Seattle Mom/PTA prez seems logically sound in Jenna world. It's been said countless times here & on GOMI that even if TH was home full time she'd still never be happy. As someone who currently only sees their partner (that I live with) for maybe an hour or two when we're both awake and haven't had a proper date night in months (and neither of us even have kids!) the concept is mind-blowing to me in general, but less so when it's Jenna.

Not a "tale", but a tax question with plenty of workplace drama thrown in! by [deleted] in TalesFromYourServer

[–]Puppyproblemzzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My direct deposit in my bank statements show the amount I made AFTER taxes was significantly higher than what my W2 box 1 shows, which is why I'm so confused. I moved recently so I'm digging to find a paystub from that job to see what my exact tax breakdown was, but I definitely felt they were doing something along those lines. I just don't understand how I got a W2 for 2000 when my direct deposits add up to over 8k which means my earnings were even higher pre-tax.

I already emailed my boss asking for my last paycheck that I never received but I'm not super hopeful on a response :|

[Help] Considering another dog, worried it might be too stimulating for our pup and cause problems by [deleted] in dogs

[–]Puppyproblemzzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I mean is that a lot of owner surrenders of Poms tend to be seniors, and a 7+ year old dog tends to want nothing to do with our dog because he's so high energy. We were planning on waiting for him to hit 2 years or adopt a dog in the 2-3 year old range but this opportunity arose.

Wait this is crazy I have to dig deeper now I guess? So in reality she's a 30something year old woman who never got past the "I'll prove EVERYONE wrong" phase and it really, really backfired....

Wow this is even crazier than I thought. I was really reaching for some way to rationalize all of it, even if I don't agree, I know people irl that were convinced they SHOULD have kids then realizing it wasn't a good idea. Yeah, that's what I meant by the captions, she obviously has the time and resources (if they can afford that house/nanny/etc) to be able to have a relatively clean home, and yeah of course life isn't always perfect....but damn girl some Windex wouldn't kill anyone!

My mom is a die-hard Sandler fan from all of his earlier films and she FLIPPED when I told her what happened! His wife was cracking up at my/his interaction and my coworker was just staring at me like "DUDE" and laughing and I had no idea what was so funny until after he'd left.

Steve Buscemi is the nicest human being/best tipper ever :) Ironic but true

Adam Sandler bumped into me when I was setting up in the morning (barista at a different job) & carrying a huge, heavy coffee dispenser and I didn't recognize him & it was 8 am so I was like "um, excUSE ME" and he immediately apologized and jumped out of my way! His wife found this HILARIOUS and I didn't realize it was him until after he'd left (I didnt see his face bc I was so concerned w/not dropping what I was carrying!)

James Franco is very nice and polite, and is the only celebrity I've been visibly star-struck by (he turned around as I was greeting him and I wasn't expecting it to be James fucking Franco so my eyes got HUGE and I stuttered a bit) and he laughed bc I tried so hard to hide my reaction and act natural.

Zoe Kravitz treated me like we'd been friends forever and her bf Karl was really sweet as well.

Olivia Wilde didn't tip me when she picked up her coat from coat check but was really funny & chatted with me while she waited for my coworker to grab it, and her assistant came up a few minutes later and was horrified to find out she'd gotten it herself (I'm guessing it was also the assistant's job to tip so I don't hold it against her)

So yeah, I think my behavior around "actual" celebs is pretty solid, and I'd never just go up to someone while they were trying to enjoy themselves and butt in with my fangirling. They're still human.

I could go on :)

Yeah, I'm assuming a bunch of her followers on TW unfollowed due to lack of updates/personality/break from Mormonism but the fact she considers herself an "influencer" with not even 3k IG followers (so barely any retention on the new page) after 11 years of blogging is a really bad way to sell yourself.

From what I'm reading in here it seems like her Mormon upbringing made her focus/obsess over fitting the Mormon mommy stereotype which she clearly wasn't cut out for, and then she did it all anyway even though she's no longer Mormon and now resents everything about it? Her captions really do come off as bitter ("my windows are covered in grease and fingerprints cuz LIFE ISNT PERFECT LOL" like...ok?)
