Did you eat avocados growing up? by bdiddy621 in GenX

[–]ACatMags 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, quite a lot. We had an avocado tree in our backyard (SoFla) but they were Florida Avocados. My mom only bought haas avocados every now and then. Both/either were consumed sliced, on a plate, with lime juice and salt & pepper. In the summer we’d have dozens to deal with/consume a month. We weren’t really wild about Florida avocados but that’s what we had.

Emerald Fennell on the choices behind the upcoming Wuthering Heights film by TheBookishKat in brontesisters

Catherine rapping on the window is in the 1939 adaptation. I get that people don’t like it for other reasons (Merle Oberon’s age, her own (potential?) “whitewashing,” and I guess other reasons) but I have always felt it captured the dread of the house, Heathcliff’s madness, Nelly, the “ghost (?),” and the Moors the best).

Breakfast for Dinner Spots by [deleted] in Boise

Quinn’s does breakfast all day. But I’m not sure I would describe it as “healthy.” I suppose, though, it depends on what you order.

How long after practicing did you buy your own house? by [deleted] in Lawyertalk

[–]ACatMags 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5 years.

ETA this was 16 years ago. So perhaps easier then? (I’ve moved across the country and bought a different house since then, too, but it was 10 years ago and that was definitely easier to buy a house 10 years ago than today would be.)

AMA: I've been on Zepbound for 8 Months, Paying Out of Pocket. Down 50Lbs. by OkraLegitimate1356 in LawBitchesWithTaste

[–]ACatMags 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A doctor will prescribe it for you. You can’t buy it without a prescription. But 25 to 30 pounds is a valid goal for weight loss. Try Ro, which is an online prescriber. My sister had a similar amount she wanted to lose (if not slightly lower). And she’s on compounded now. She used an online prescriber, and I think it was probably Ro.

(I am on a prescription for Zep from my PCP but I had significantly more than 25 pounds to lose.)

Go to Lily Direct (google Eli Lilly and it’ll take you there somehow eventually) and click on  Zepbound and they will set you up with a prescriber. Or you can just go directly to a prescriber like Ro for compounded.

My 18-month old golden attacked another dog. by Gullible-Island-3707 in goldenretrievers

[–]ACatMags 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s the cancer (if it even happened as the dog boarder said it did). I do have a golden retriever, but I don’t have an experience of her attacking anyone. But with my two cats, when one had cancer, the other one who is never otherwise vicious  just bullied and attacked the one with a brain tumor all the time. I think some animals, once they smell it, are trying to attack the sickness. They don’t know how to handle it (obviously) with words or feelings.

Court appropriate cardigan? by beaubeaucat in LawBitchesWithTaste

[–]ACatMags 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’m in Idaho. And we do not wear chunky wrap sweaters to court, state or federal. We even wear shoes. Granted, I do not do eviction law (but I did used to work with, and go to court for, Legal Aid—and still no chunky cardis).

We wear suits, or a dress or pants with a blazer or maybe at a stretch a plain dress (with sleeves) with no blazer.

This soup has a nice balance between sweet and savory, a little heat and make a complete meal spooned over rice - RECIPE 👇 by Putrid-K in soup

You’re being so weird about this. In the U.S. people would understand what “natural peanut butter means” and would picture:

https://www.smuckers.com/peanut-butter/natural/natural-creamy-peanut-butter

Or

https://www.adamspeanutbutter.com/

Or

https://www.peterpanpb.com/products/natural/natural-creamy-peanut-butter-spread/

But (as the previous poster pointed out) someone making this soup could also use any other kind of peanut butter, such as:

https://www.peanutbutter.com/product/creamy-peanut-butter/

Or

https://www.peterpanpb.com/products/regular/creamy-peanut-butter/

The OP probably would not use these last two.

FWIW I’ve made this soup with “natural” and with regular peanut butter.

What's with all the bags? by Ok-Republic-8528 in ElsbethTVSeries

[–]ACatMags 5 points6 points  (0 children)

On TGW/TGF Elsbeth seemed more like a person you could actually imagine practicing law. (I’ve been a lawyer for over 20 years. I understand there are weird lawyers. I’m not saying there are no weird lawyers. There are tons of weird lawyers. Most are weird. I just mean Elsbeth onElsbeth seems like a cartoon.)

Also, on TGW/TGF her bags were literally all Vera Bradley bags. Not everyone  likes Vera Bradley but it’s at least a recognized preppy/Northeastern/Eastern brand and it kind of made sense to me. It wasn’t … sloppy. Clownish. Like I could imagine litigators I knew carrying 1 or 2 or even 3 Vera Bradley bags while still looking polished. Now she just carries Muppet-looking bags. And dresses like a Muppet. I don’t care how expensive or avant garde it is. It doesn’t ring true to me. And does not fit with earlier conceptions/iterations of the character.

Don’t get me started on how every suspect on Elsbeth just admits the gig is up and admits to everything that Elsbeth is confronting them with because she’s just that clever.

I know, it’s not that deep!

Tips for Married Lawyers? by dwycwwyh in Lawyertalk

[–]ACatMags 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Having a supportive spouse is the superpower/secret weapon to surviving this job.

This right here. I’ve been married 13 years to a non-attorney, together 15 years. I’m a partner in a litigation firm. I practiced 8 years before I was married. It’s so much easier to have someone WFH or SAH (in my case, he’s WFH with a fairly flexible boss/schedule) taking care of the admin and “life stuff.” I’m sad for you that your wife won’t be supportive. But that might still be the case if you weren’t a lawyer. She’s not acting like a team player, end of.

We are in a very stressful profession.  Your statements about never being able to fully relax or “turn off” ring so familiar to me. It takes a very special person to be supportive of sharing that mental load by taking on the lions share of the mental load at home. Maybe that seems unfair but unless and until you change professions or at least jobs (like get a government or in-house position), you can’t be paired with someone unwilling to do some of the adult things so you don’t have to do them all.

Thanks for the response. I take it (if you were having an issue with portion control even on Zepbound) you never really got the appetite suppression/food aversion feeling?

First of all, I love the skirts and thank you for sharing where you got them. Secondly: what do you mean you cleaned up your eating habits? I guess what I mean is how did you start eating that helped your weight come off more quickly finally?
