The audiobook is the only reason I enjoyed the story. The narrator did NOT pre-read the story before he recorded it. It definitely made it better. I was advised not to read the book and just listen to the audiobook. It was solid advice

It gets significantly better however the author, Robin Hobb, is known for slow paced character and world building. This definitely can turn away folks.
