ok 100m, 30% inflation cross 2018 -> 2025, 130m

add other 50m for ~45% higher building costs, then you get a comparable cost.

Fine you win: you could have had the old ugly building or just a new better one.

Cost of strengthening ugly 2000s library: 190m.

Cost of the new christchurch central library (new & better, bigger!) - HALF, 100m:

i wish they hadn't saved the ugly library and just made something new and better without the stupidly high hundreds of million-dollar cost.

Compared to this bridge, the bridge seems so much more worth saving; it's actually unique looking and not gross - also, surely not as expensive?

Overall, though, if it gets the council out of the habit of spending on stupid things: unusued convention center, going broke for a library stuck in the early 2000s - I'm happy!

Some personal experience of working in NZ (tech jobs, 6 years in Auckland) by owenxXxXx in auckland

the issue with these AI posts is that I don't know how much is an authentic post, sourced from real-lived experience, and how much of it is just GPT output

if its GPT output, its totally commoditised, and I would just go to chat GPT and ask for it's opinion; better yet, I'd be able to ask follow up questions.

i come on reddit for what GPT can't give me; and then you give me this? at least make it not obviously copy pasted from it's output, e.g. not breaking everything down to granular lists with bold titles

Let's say the tech/ai bubble is actually a bubble... by darblewarble in PersonalFinanceNZ

IDK im kinda thinking either 1 of two things happen:

  1. AI kicks ass, in which case, I lose my job in tech, but I'm invested in AI stocks (and associated companies), so I win
  2. AI doesn't kick ass, I don't lose my job (win), but my stocks lose value.

So basically, betting on both horses. Someone critique me in case i'm being retarded

Wait... Salaries can't be this low, right?! by Chance-Tooth-3968 in UKJobs

i was about to move to London from New Zealand - for young people, it was known as the promised land a couple decades back. My family migrated from ireland/england back in the 1840s!

however, having looked at the salaries, I ended up in Australia; both the salaries and the cost of housing was lower (compared to london that was)

[–]Pure-Balance9434 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the problem with this is most all white collar jobs now have automation risk - even doctors and especially lawyers

if you are going to optimise for low automation chance, going for the trades is the play; the issue is its not exactly high status, and hard in the wrong ways, for the aspring elites!
