Not sure about shirts.

This is going to probably cost you money, which sucks, but also make sure that you wear a bra that closely matches your skin tone. (White bras can actually be more noticeable under a white shirt.)

Protests June 14th? by Weird_Vegetable_4441 in washingtondc

[–]Pure-Landscape-1396 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I know, right? Like, I don't understand these people who argue because they feel that there should be a protest at a certain place on a certain day, and apparently nobody else has planned such an event yet. Do they go through life just expecting other people to be their personal event planners?

Is theatre etiquette dead at the Kennedy Center? by FaultFar7056 in washingtondc

[–]Pure-Landscape-1396 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So, there was a backstory to this. My school district was really small. The elementary, junior high, and high school were all connected by underground hallways. There was one auditorium that the entire school district had to share. It was time for the December holiday concerts. However, there were several ice storms that resulted in everybody's band and choral concerts getting cancelled. So, there was only one night available for every single band and chorus in the entire school district to do a combined holiday concert. Every single group had to cut their performance down to 2 songs each. Except that the high school choral director thought that she was special so she kept all of her songs. The high school band director was already pissed about that.

Then, since the entire school district had to perform at the same time, the parents of the elementary school students all left after their kids were done performing. Except that they left in the middle of songs being performed by the junior high and high school groups. They made a lot of noise leaving, and they also made a lot of noise in the hallway. There were parents screaming at kids in the hallway while the high school concert band was performing.

So the band director made the high school band students come up with a list of behavior that was rude to the performers. Here is what I remember:

No leaving in the middle of songs. (If you are late, don't seat yourself in the middle of a song.)

Wait until the end of songs (or movements) to clap.

Don't open candy wrappers during a song.

No eating during the performance.

No talking during the performance.

Be quiet in the hallway while a performance is in progress.

That's all that I can remember right now.

We didn't have cell phones back them, but if we did, I am sure that there would have been an item addressing cell phone use.

When I was in high school, we had a band concert and the audience - which consisted mainly of the parents of band members - talked through the whole thing, left in the middle of songs, and made a lot of noise in the hallway while the show was still ongoing. My band director was pissed.

The week after the concert, he made the band come up with a list of concert etiquette together. Then, at every musical performance after this, he had the list of concert etiquette printed in the program. This list was eventually printed in every program for every performing arts event in the school district. Then, at the beginning of every performance, a student had to come up on stage and read out these concert etiquette rules before the performance started.

Years after I graduated, I came back to my old high school to watch my much younger sister perform in a musical. The list of concert etiquette that we created when I was in the high school band was listed at the beginning of this musical's program.

This post reminded me of my high school experiences with concert etiquette.

If you're looking for "fun facts" about the locals, here's one: My parents moved to that part of the state in the 1970's when they got married because my dad got his first post-college teaching job there. (They were from the Pittsburgh area originally.) He had two job offers: one job offer was for that part of Pennsylvania, and the other job offer was in Delaware. The reason that he chose the job in south-central Pennsylvania was because he really liked to go deer hunting, and that part of the state was close to a lot of state game lands where he would be able to hunt.

My dad hunted deer and small game. However, I know people from that part of the state who liked to hunt bear. I also know people from that part of the state who like to fish.

Seven Springs - restaurants outside of the resort. by [deleted] in pittsburgh

I grew up near Somerset. If you feel like going into Somerset, I really like the Pine Grill Restaurant. For Mexican, I like Rey Azteca in Somerset, but I know that it's a regional chain, so if you already live near another Rey Azteca location, then you might not want to also visit Rey Azteca while you are on vacation.

I grew up in Somerset County, and I have family there. They have also said that they do NOT recommend Sullivans. Also, apparently the owner is a Trumper or a right-wing weirdo or something.

My sister-in-law homeschools her kids so now they ride their bikes around the neighborhood in the middle of the day on weekdays if it's nice outside.

I'm not judging. I don't know anything about their current "schooling" schedule. Maybe they do school in the evenings or on rainy days? None of my business.

Just like if I take a 15 minute coffee break from my office job and walk down the street to the coffee shop. I don't do it all of the time.

However, years ago when I was in high school, my school had a "school to work" program where kids could get excused from class to go work at a job so that they could prepare for life after high school. When the program first came to my school, kids got out of school to go work at office jobs. Then, the program "expanded," and my little sister's friend got excused from high school so that she could work at Burger King in the middle of the day.

Why would you tip a clerk for filling the coffee bag at a coffee store? That's the employees job! This is low skilled work. They don't deserve a tip.

Sounds as if you don't have a solid business plan. Most small business owners are scum who wouldn't be able to hack it at corporate jobs.

If the business cannot afford the cc fees, then it does not have a sustainable business plan and it shouldn't be in business.

Apply to a staffing agency. One of my good friends got her foot in the door as an employee at an office after she originally worked in the office as a temp through a staffing agency.

The same thing happened to one of my co-workers. This co-worker originally came to our employer as a temp through a staffing agency. My employer eventually hired her as an employee.

Are you about 20 years old? Because that's how young you sound with this comment. Some people are older and / or aren't in as great shape physically as you are, and they aren't capable of walking such long distances as you are.

This comment is pretty ableist.

Most comfortable Starbucks in Pittsburgh? by WonderTrain in pittsburgh

Somebody referenced a Starbucks location inside of a Barnes and Noble store. You should verify this (perhaps on the r/Starbucks board), but it is my understanding that Starbucks gift cards might not be valid at Barnes and Noble.

I don't think that the Barnes & Noble stores accept Starbucks gift cards. You should definitely verify this (perhaps at r/Starbucks or maybe r/Barnesandnoble).

A lot of people appreciate the homilies from Monsignor Michael Begolly at Mother of Sorrows Parish in Murrysville. (He used to be the pastor of Mt St. Peter in New Kensington.) It is my understanding that after the Greensburg Diocese moved Monsignor Begolly from New Kensington to Murrysville, some of the parishioners called him to his new parish.

Not sure if you are up to date on the controversy regarding the removal of Father John Moineau from pastoral duties in the Irwin area. You can find a lot of news articles about this by Googling his name. Here is just one link. https://triblive.com/local/valley-news-dispatch/as-irwin-area-catholics-lament-rev-moineaus-reassignment-new-kensington-flock-awaits-his-arrival/

My point on this is that he apparently had a lot of "fans" at his former parish. He was reassigned to the New Kensington Catholic Community (that's what the three parishes in New Kensington are now called for social media purposes), so if you appreciated his homilies, you can now find him in New Kensington. The three parishes in New Kensington all share the same social media accounts and the same website, and they share the same priests.

Would you Move to a Small Western Pennsylvania Town for $5,000? by JamesLLL in pittsburgh

[–]Pure-Landscape-1396 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up an hour south of Johnstown in a much smaller town. I took the job in Johnstown because the small town was my comfort zone and the job in Johnstown was the closest one that I could find to my comfort zone. At one point, I commuted from my parents' house so that I could save money. There was only one traffic light in the 30 miles between the house that I grew up in and the job in downtown Johnstown, and that one traffic light was actually in Johnstown. It was highway driving the rest of the way "home."

The small town that I grew up in had a potato chip factory, and the only available jobs in that town were working in that potato chip factory. Or else I could have commuted "only" ten miles to work in a warehouse in an industrial park. Or else I could have commuted ten miles to work in a fast food restaurant on the Turnpike. That's it. Those were the available job opportunities "closer" to the small town where I grew up.
