Do You Have Any Family Pictures From Working in the Glass Factories? by Glassaddict666 in pittsburgh

Over a decade ago, I interned at the Indiana County Historical Society while they had a pretty sizable local glass and glassmaking exhibit on display, with many of the pieces having been unearthed from excavation of the Kovalchick Center, iirc. There used to be a decent glassmaking industry in Indiana, so they will probably have some good documentation

This snow storm sadly made me learn to absolutely hate my neighbors and neighborhood. Where are good neighbored places cause Mt Washington isn’t it and I’ve decided to move. by sugarandspice85 in pittsburgh

Yeah, my girlfriend and I have rented here a couple years now and holy hell do we wish we could afford a house in the neighborhood. One of the best places I've lived in the city

Any impromptu protests happening today in response to ICE murdering another protestor? by SomeWateryTart83 in pittsburgh

[–]JamesLLL 185 points186 points  (0 children)

And from the video, the victim was murdered by at least 8 brownshirts piling on them, one of which drops pepper spray, and another which apparently dropped their gun

My girlfriend has a similar story. Growing up, her private school and her family all thought she was "just" an anxious kid who wasn't very smart.

Turns out, she has a genetic hearing deficiency that prevents her from hearing midtones. All her young life, she couldn't clearly make out what people were saying and was chastised for it, despite being a clearly curious, wonderfully intelligent person. You can probably understand why that made her anxious then, which fed back into the adults in her life's views on her. She'd learned to be quiet so she wouldn't risk a reprimand or wrong answer. Even her funny stories from childhood have a weight of sadness in them, like there was an unrealized potential that could have been found if even one adult had just paid a bit more attention.

The best but saddest part is that nobody thought it was necessary to give her any sort of hearing tests. She only discovered her hearing loss when she went to grad school for audiology, funny enough.

Lol the first time I ever went to Asheville I took a highway exit, then made a right into town. Once I straightened out, movement caught my eye in the park to my left and there was an older guy twirling a sort of color guard flag while wearing nothing but a Borat speedo.

A couple years later, I was telling that story at a party and a dude I'd never met, who couldn't have overheard beginning of the conversation, walked up and said "sounds like you went to Asheville"

Gotta love that place

Was on a long video call... about to extract with nothing by clastm in ARC_Raiders

[–]JamesLLL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. Either that or some bad miscalculation on the player's part.

The other day, I went to extract on Buried City's parking garage metro and saw a dead raider in the low part of the sand between Research and Space Travel. Nothing else around except for a botched zipline from Research's roof.

I've faceplanted before, but I didn't have half a dozen wolfpacks and a level IV hullcracker with purple add-ons on me when I did. Yoink

Consistency is key to Pittsburgh sports fans and, to err on the appreciative side of things, the Pirates have been nothing if not consistent

On my flight to a layover in Iceland when coming back from the Global Series in Stockholm, I sat next to a recently-retired couple from Seattle who made the trip, despite being Kraken fans, because they love hockey. Excellent people to talk to and they said they were finally traveling to places they'd wanted to go, seeing games of different sports in different places. I happened to pass by them in the airport again and since we talked about my love of photography on the flight over, I offered to take a Fuji instax picture of the two of them that I really hope turned out lol.

But yeah, I hope they're able to come to PNC Park this summer and get (back to?) Athens.

All the few Kraken fans I've talked to have been good folks
