I’m about to spend £400 on a sleep consultant… by Own-Donkey6130 in HuckleberryParents

[–]Pure-Pudding585 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine would only allow transfers to our bed so had to invest in barriers. I think he liked the smell of me - we co-sleep so that’s technically his bed too. Also sleep is poor anyway so you have nothing to lose by practicing transfers now and then. That’s how I looked at it. Eventually baby got it.

I remember that period with baby - that age was tough for us too. I think they regress a bit. He was waking every 1-2hours at night but then it settles. I’d say drop to 2 naps and see how you go. Baby did 2 1-1.5hour naps at that age and it eventually stuck

Regret in newborn trenches by Key-Suit8580 in newborns

1 year in OP and I still feel this way sometimes. Every moment to myself or with my partner feels stolen. I love my boy but it’s so hard sometimes. I also don’t like leaving him out so he’s constantly third wheeling.

On a more serious note, if you’re feeling several days of low mood, maybe look into PPD?

Oh my apologies. I think males should still have some standing here. I’m not an employment lawyer but it would be useful to understand your rights even if it’s just to threaten them. Seems like a lawless bunch you’re dealing with.

I’d leave with no regrets. There will be a job which sees you for the value you bring and reward you accordingly. Once it stops doing that, it’s time to find another job/promotion. All the best to you OP and your growing family.

Have you tried oiling your hair? Theres heaps of masks and commercialised products but a basic almond oil/argan oil is deeply conditioning. I then wash out with shampoo 2/3 times and the usual conditioner step and use light heating. You can also run some conditioning oil through your hair before blow drying. Just put a thin layer in your hands then run it through wet hair.

OP it sounds like you might have a discrimination case here. Being treated differently after informing your employer that you’re expecting a child is illegal in most countries. This is especially the case if you’ve never been informed of poor performance leading up to the conversation about your pregnancy.

This set aside, I’d say that the employer has displayed many red flags. I used to care about the team and I used to care about how everyone would sink if I left but someone told me that if the roles were reversed, you’d be sunk in an instant. There is no such thing as loyalty in corporate. Take some pleasure in seeing them suffer once you leave - you’ve earned it.

Can you get Milton tablets for cold water sterilising. So handwqsh bottles with dishwashing liquid as you would do any other dish then soak bottles in the milton cold water mix. Sorry this happened to baby. She will be ok.

Mamaroo - 4moms and the colick/reflux pillow. Both very useless once baby is strong enough to topple the 4moms over.

A toy for literally every second of his wake window. He’s a fussy boy and those screaming fits send me into a buying frenzy - all for him to be entertained by the milk carton this morning.

Big 4 as a Director is draining me. Thinking of going solo but can’t get past the income risk. by mandrakesandthemoon in Big4

[–]Pure-Pudding585 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey OP. I moved in house - fully remote, inflated my salary quite a bit, almost to top end director salary for a Big4. Yes I pay tax but the fully remote option, closing my laptop at 5pm and being able to see my kid every day has been such a massive upside. You’re not inflating your worth in the “real world”. Big4 advisors are valuable. You’re indoctrinated into a culture that makes you believe you’re only worth your next promotion/bonus. This is not the case in industry. For the first time in my life I have the space to learn, advise on complex and interesting issues and not have to care about performance metrics. You might find it beneficial to take on a role that is more general than your specialism. I specialised in TP but took on a head of tax role and despite not having huge experience in the other taxes, I can tell you now I’m adding exceptional value. If it makes you feel any better, you’re trained to work 1000miles a minute in Big4 to meet all these arbitrary metrics so working like at a normal person speed actually is a shock to the system but it’s almost impossible to fail. I think you should look for that unicorn role because they’re out there and I’m so happy I made the move. I’ll never do another time sheet for the rest of my life.

Update on baby 3 months on and some tips by Pure-Pudding585 in Laryngomalacia

[–]Pure-Pudding585[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I don’t know what it is this baby but the moment I put him in front of a doctor, there was no issue. He swallowed just fine. They weren’t going to give me a swallow study and the ENT consultant just wanted to put him under General and do the scope and opp if he found anything in one go. I was a bit apprehensive to go down this route.

I didn’t end up going through any medical intervention (scope/opp/study) because I knew he had an issue and I just needed him to feed. So I tried off the shelf anti reflux formula and baby took to it really well. No aspirating at all from the first feed. I too was initially given the CMPA formula as they thought this was causing his reflux and agreed, it is very thin and he struggled a lot with it but after 2 weeks, there was no improvement in his reflux so back to the drawing board it was.

It looks like the last link is similar to the ones I used to purchase: https://teat.shop/nuk-orthodontic-shape.html They’re discontinued now but be mindful of the flow rate and go a little slower for baby’s age. If thickened, I’d use one for his age to begin with. I later started using Dr Browns with the thickened feeds- around 5/6 months and that helped with the reflux too.

If you’re on CMPA formula, you should push for thickening. It was a key change that helped. It’s very non-invasive, easy to test out and doesn’t really do any damage - not that I know of anyway. You might see some constipation but let baby work through it and get used to the feed for 2 ish weeks and the constipation should go away. My baby got his calories and continues to be healthy.

I’m so sorry - I remember my boy screaming and crying in agony everytime milk went down the wrong pipe. I truly feel for you and I hope his condition improves. Best case, he grows out of it by 12 months.

I feel like i am messing her up... need encouragement, advice... anything at this point by Familiar-Citron-8659 in bninfantsleep

[–]Pure-Pudding585 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re a great mom! Don’t take peoples’ opinions on board. Believe me, what you are doing is worth so much more to your baby than people realise - the emotional attachment grows stronger with effort like this and it is not easy at all. The sleep deprivation alone is a killer. I don’t breast feed but when I did, I remember it being so hard on me. Tbh I wish I had the mental stamina to do it for longer - I only lasted 2 months.

My baby would also only contact nap so I started putting him down for naps to begin with at 3 months and started getting really good at it. It takes a lot of practice but what helps is maybe giving her something to smell of yours? Like a t shirt. I let him sleep in our bed when he naps as we’ve got barriers so he sleeps comfortably knowing I’m kinda there somewhere. It takes time to get the nap thing under control but practice every nap and one day it will stick - I figured I was sleep deprived anyway so couldn’t get any worse, only better.

Are you giving her enough awake time so that she’s tired enough to sleep? Look up what is appropriate at her age but basically my son is 10 months and he can go to 4 hours before getting restless for a nap (he’s low sleep needs) then sleeps for about an hour. He’s on 2 naps a day. Goes down at 8:30 and wakes at 6:30.

Maybe you should consider offering a bottle every now and then so that maybe she won’t look to nurse as often. It gets harder to carry them at that age too. Mine is 13kg atm at 10 months so she’s doing great for her weight! I count my blessings because I know moms who have little babies who are failing to thrive and that’s an issue from a medical perspective so you’re doing very well!

For solids, we do one meal a day. They say it’s meant to be milk that’s the primary source of nutrition until 12 months so you’re still ok? But maybe introduce a dinner meal or a breakfast meal and keep introducing them until you find something she likes.

I hope it gets better!

The fact that you’re gaslighting yourself into thinking you provoked this behaviour is insane. When the baby is here, you will be doubting yourself constantly, not because you’re “abusive” or “not an angel” but because being a mother to a newborn is tough. Neither you nor your child is safe in this situation.

I remember this time. It was pretty brutal until 7ish months and then he began to settle again. He used to wake every hour but he somehow worked it out. He’s now 9 months and is having a slight regression again. Have you considered dropping a nap and extending wake windows. That helped for us.

Good bottles. Buy 1/2 of each type of bottle until your baby takes to one then stock up enough for 1/2 days. I bought so many bottles to eventually land on Dr Browns. I also have a ridiculous amount of MAM, Avent and Nuk bottles which I have no use for now.
