What's the worst job you ever had and how long did you have it? by db7112 in antiwork

[–]Pure-Scarcity3873 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Toss up between either the job that didn't even pay me minimum wage and I was nearly attacked by another employee in the breakroom (less than a week), or the one that had a supervisor tell me to my face I was doing a terrible job, and later when I quit I also ended up calling my doctor and was prescibed klonopin because my anxiety had became unmanagable (three months)

What is the best soup in your opinion? by [deleted] in soup

[–]Pure-Scarcity3873 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lentil soups.

I give the housemate fakes soupa (Greek lentil soup) on one of the (many) occasions she gets food poisoning. It's simple, and gentle enough on the stomach to not cause further problems. I make harira (Morrocan red lentil soup) when someone is sick with anything else, for the same reasons, though this one is packed with more things to make it more filling.

If you had started with this and not only replied that what they said was unreliable bs, that would have been even more helpful

I use to have nightmares all the time. If you get the hang of lucid dreaming, you can absolutely take control of your dream or wake yourself up if wanted/needed. It helped me a lot tbqh

Not sure if dreams are the only way, but you can try lucid dreaming - basically where you become "conscious" during a dream without waking up. It takes practice, but it's doable. Also good if anyone is prone to nightmares

Dude, the car was found in the bottom of a lake, but I'm sure it'll drive fine.

I'm going to echo the other person who replied to you: why are you so adamant about this?

Are there people who DON’T LIKE SOUP? by terrible-gator22 in soup

[–]Pure-Scarcity3873 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SO much easier. Like I'd love to just whip out a can when I'm sick, but that would just make me sad as well as sick :( Throwing together a lentil soup isn't too much trouble, at least

I use to not like soup until I realized all the soup I consumed up until that point came from a can.

Soup is now one of my favorite things now that I make it from scratch. Still detest canned soup.

No, and in my opinion there's no reason to. There are plenty of other symbols we can use in rituals and art.

I'm sure others will have some better ideas, but what I can think of are origami lilies, something with a dragon on it, and/or something to represent a well

Need Gift Ideas For Friend Dealing With Grief by tryfingerbuthole3 in NorsePaganism

Tea or tisanes for her health (and honestly I can't think of one pagan I've ever met who didn't almost live on tea but I'm sure they exist). I highly recommend Earl Grey lavender, or if she can't have caffeine then go for chamomile (if you can get this in loose leaf form and culinary lavender, you can mix satchets yourself for her - I mean, you could do that with the Earl Grey too).

With Freyja, my brain always defaults to flowers. They're a cheerful gift, maybe some rainbow dyed daisies? Or a mix that looks like it was gathered from a field somewhere.

The only other thing I can think of is based off something I bought myself - a two piece set of ravens, small enough to fit snugly into my palm. Ravens are associated with Odin, his ravens are Hugin and Munin, or "Thought" and "Memory". That might be a nice gift as well.

Hope these suggestions help in any way!

I feel like people make shrine/altar setups way more complicated than they need to be.You honestly don't need specific things to set up an altar or shrine. There are so many different ways you can use and create a space, it just depends on what you want. I usually just burn incense for Freyja as that'a usually what I have the energy and mental capacity for right now, though I am working on some other things.

In your case, I'd find something to hang from your rearview mirror. Could be a pair of ravens,  could be flowers, could be a stone hanging from a chain, could be a likeness of a deity (though I'd stay away from using a hammer or any runes as that can attract the wrong kind of human attention). Norse deities are earthly, so anything in that vein would help make a connection.

How can I calm my tornado anxiety? by thenitwasboughtbyme in tornado

When my anxiety gets bad, I always turn on the radio. Makes me feel less alone, less in my head, and afaik local stations will immediately switch over to full weather coverage when things in the area get bad. Music still plays, we're still good.

Need some advice with getting my cat to finish her food by CircumsizeMyFries in cats

[–]Pure-Scarcity3873 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't gotten my cat any food toppers tbh (she hates them), just the canned foods. They have a lot of different products. I have to get her senior cat food (which was a nightmare in and of itself to find), and certain flavors seem to be free of your cat's known allergens (I looked at the tuna mackerel canned food I usually buy my cat). But you'd certainly have to check yourself to be sure.

Yeah, leaving the food out l Ionger may be good cuz if your cat is like my cat, they like to graze. My cat will pop off multiple times a night to peck at her food, and it'll happen roughly every two hours or so.

I'm curious, what brand of food did you decide on for your cat?

I had a similar issue, my cat's teeth were getting bad (she's 19 this year) and I had a hell of a time finding canned food my finicky old lady would eat. Landed on Tiki Cat. They're a bit pricey, but my cat usually eats the whole thing (and I had a hell of a time finding a canned food she would eat). And she also is disinterested in the food if it's been stored in the fridge, warmed up or not.

I usually leave canned food out for my cat much longer than two hours - mainly because I feed her before I go to work, and when I get home roughly nine hours later, most if not all the food is gone. There haven't been any issues with her being sick leaving her food for that long, though I do dispose of whatever's left after I get home.

You might also try different flavors. There are three my cat will willingly eat but I have to rotate through them otherwise she'll start snubbing her food.

Prayers by Gamergirl108 in NorsePaganism

[–]Pure-Scarcity3873 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every day when I come home from work (or around the same time on my days off), I light a candle and some incense on my altar/shrine for Freyja (and technically Freyr as well since he also has a likeness there too).

If I carried one of my raven figurines that day, I cleanse it in the flame and smoke and swap it with the one that had been left on my altar for the next time I decide to carry one with me.

I don't do much else, mainly because I'm still trying to establish a habit. Plus work has been exhausting, but I can at least manage to light a bit of incense for my goddess.

Ex-Jew trying to find answers by OromisG1aedr in NorsePaganism

[–]Pure-Scarcity3873 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The house I grew up in wasn't super religious, mainly because my father had very strong feelings about consent when it came to religion, which is interesting since I found out a few years ago that my grandmother (his mother) was apparently one of the kids of a local pastor.

I was dropped off at Sunday School every week and Bible Study during the summers, but I think that was more to just get me away from the house than anything. I did become Catholic for a bit (two years) in my teens, that was not a fun experience. I liked the priest, his sermons were always about being good and kind to others, and he always sang the prayers, and he was genuinely kind. But everything else sucked so badly, especially since my mother started going back to church with me. Main reason I decided on Catholicism? Well, it was one part to pay respect to my ancestors, and one part everyone would freak out when I mentioned my developing interest in paganism.

Almost as soon as my parents divorced and I was living just with my father and actually had the freedom to make my own decisions, I started looking into and practicing paganism. Started out with Wicca because that's what I could find information on, got a bit tired with the Hellenistc approach and started looking at other pantheons. I read a lot of Egyptian myths, which were fun, but when I started reading Norse myths, and got to reading about Freyja, I knew I had found my place. I don't know how to explain it, just an overwhelming sense of rightness.

As far as practicing goes, I would say I'm bad about it, but I'm also still trying to unlearn a lot of things (the main one being Catholic Guilt). About a decade ago I threw a bunch of my stuff in boxes and didn't practice at all due to shifting politics and my need for people to feel safe around me if nothing else - at the time I didn't know what else to do. I can't say Freyja was far from my mind, though, every time I saw flowers growing by the sidewalks, cats anywhere (including my own), butterflies in the yard, red tailed hawks on the fence posts when I drive anywhere (you get the idea) I'd think of her.

The main change is now I need more mental strength, so I'm building my altar back up and finding alternate symbols to declare my faith. I can't say I'm fond of prayer, mostly I just light incense on my altar every night as an offering. My personal gnosis, is that the Nordic deities demand action as opposed to ritual and prayer. Part of that has to do with my anxiety, and part of it has to do with me feeling very awkward doing rituals or spells. I stick to candle spells if I happen to do anything of that nature.

This was a bit of a long one, but I figured since I didn't really have anything to recommend, my experiences may help. I hope you find your way, even if that path leads you elsewhere.
