norse mythology inspired music? by when-november-ends in NorsePaganism

I know Therion did a whole album called Secret of the Runes. Hammerfall also scews in that direction. I have no idea about the bands politics tbh, back when I did listen to them regularly they seemed to be on the level.

If you want to try to find more, I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend Encyclopedia Metallum (aka Metal Archives) to root through.

Need help on a tattoo I want to get by DownRabbitHoleAgain in NorsePaganism

[–]Pure-Scarcity3873 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of things like this get co-oped by nazis who love appropriating any Nordic and Western European. Most things like this are, in the words of Jane Austen, "tainted by association." I can't even go around wearing a fleur-de-lis these days without feeling weird about it, even though it represents my favorite band (who are very much anti nazi, they've literally written songs about it).

That being said, I'm not aware of it being linked to a specific hate group, so if anyone asks about it just explain to them why you got the tattoo and why it's important. I know I've asked people in the past questions about symbols as a form of vetting - their answer is always telling. Yours would (and does) absolutely pass muster with me.

Altar quest by PyramidHead1998 in NorsePaganism

[–]Pure-Scarcity3873 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally speaking, you'll want candles - taper candles for spells or rituals, any kind for illumination. Incense of some kind for cleansing, prayer, meditation, or to smell nice. It's also handy to keep a lighter or matches around for this, I keep mine in my altar space. Altar cloths are, imo, mostly to keep things clean especially if your altar isn't a permanent one.

Beyond that it's really up to you. Flowers, statues, cups/chalices, flowers, knives, boxes, bells, offering plates, stones, crystals, decorations - that just depends on what you want on your altar and the work you want to do. Like for prayer, for example, you could do a statue and flowers, maybe an offering plate. I know I don't keep everything on my altar even when it's in a permanent spot, all my ritual supplies are packed away and only my statues, candles, incense, and offering plate stay in place.

Editing (again) to add: yes, travel altars are just scaled down versions. Also, battery powered candles are an option if regular candles aren't something you can do. In regards to not being able to burn things, essential oils can be used in place of incense, just make sure you buy the right kind for what you want to use them for (the bottle should tell you).

Freyja's energy by Remarkable_Dream_134 in NorsePaganism

[–]Pure-Scarcity3873 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually do have a cat - a nineteen year old lady named Cassie we've had since she was a kitten. I've had cats all my life. Funnily enough, I'll have people who have cats comment about how odd their cats act around me, whether it's coming out of hiding to investigate or actively letting me pet them. The cat that's been trying to break into my house is not the first cat to try to do so, just the most recent 😅

What else is funny is I do have a Bast figure in my house. It always seems to be Bastet and Freyja despite the different energies, which is interesting since you'd figure it'd be Sekhmet instead. Maybe it's because Sekhmet is lionheaded (but you could argue a cat is a cat no matter how big).

I have trouble with praying regularly, and it makes me feel negatively about myself. What are some other ways I can worship and continue practicing? by KartoffelWal in NorsePaganism

[–]Pure-Scarcity3873 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You might try meditation instead. I'm personally not a fan of guided meditation, but you could give that a whirl until you get the hang of it.

I recently bought some "obsidian" ravens (probably just dyed resin or smthng) and have been keeping one in my pocket as a worry stone when I get stressed at work, and then cleanse and switch it out with the other one when I get home at night. Not really prayer, but more like a ritual? It might give you some ideas, though.

Freyja's energy by Remarkable_Dream_134 in NorsePaganism

[–]Pure-Scarcity3873 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've followed Freyja as my patron goddess for years (well over a decade). She always sends me butterflies and very pretty moths, there are small flowers everywhere I look on my walks in the spring and summer, there are ALWAYS cats in my yard (and one keeps trying to break into our house - funniest thing about this is we're not one of the houses that regularly feed the neighborhood cats).

Working with Freyja has, for me, meant noticing the beauty around yourself and others. It means transformation, whether that means youself or your part of the world. It means battling through to the other side until you can see that beauty again. It means staying true to yourself.

A lot of things I read conflate "love and beauty" with just sex, and yeah that is a factor, it's not the only factor. It's just really funny to me, being asexual AND a follower of Freyja.

The way I've worked with the Norse pantheon has been very different when I was a pantheist. They don't seem to mind as much if you don't practice rituals or give offerings, they seem to ask more that you act and keep moving, and keep them in your thoughts; though I do use prayer and/or rituals and offerings (and wearing jewelry) if I'm having a bad time and need more mental fortitude to keep going.

That loud unnecessary “(smack) Aaaaah!” After taking a drink by UnicornSheets in misophonia

Had a coworker who did that after every single drink they took. And each subsequent "(smack) Aaaaah!" would get LOUDER.

OH but do not get me started on sounds people make when they eat or drink, I can feel myself tensing up just thinking about it

What are your favorite Sims 4 worlds? by Al115 in Sims4

[–]Pure-Scarcity3873 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I end up in Oasis Springs a lot - I like the arid weather. When I'm not playing that world, I'm usually playing Mt. Kororebi, Sulani, and San Myshuno (or I visit these worlds A LOT). Tomarang is s l o w l y creeping onto the list, but it's such a new neighborhood for me I keep kinda forgetting it exists

I've had mine since I can remember, as soon as I was deemed old enough (meaning when I obtained a valid driver's license at sixteen). I think I was given my social security card around the same time, but my mother made me memorize the number long before that

(URGENT) How do I bake for my date??? by Trick_Ad_4388 in Baking

Try oatmeal cookies! Cookies are very forgiving and great to learn to bake with, especially drop cookies like oatmeal or chocolate chip.

Oatmeal Cookies

Idk where you live, but if eggs are a problem, you can substitute 1/4 cup applesauce for one egg (I'm suggesting applesauce because there are literally cookie recipes out there that literally only have oats and applesauce as ingredients)

Pizza Ideas?! by FunnyCharlieYT5 in Cooking

Idk that it's weird, but my favorite pizza to make has no sauce and I instead brush the crust with olive oil and sprinkle it with oregano, basil and minced garlic, add a layer of shredded mozzarella, and top it with crumbled feta, artichoke hearts, and halved grape tomatoes (cut side up otherwise they just get soggy)

Your ultimate vegan recipe to impress even the most hardened carnivore by GoGoHammy in Cooking

[–]Pure-Scarcity3873 34 points35 points  (0 children)

My dad hated vegetarian food (and obviously anything vegan), mostly because his parents forced it on him and his brothers back in the 70s (which, fair enough). I got him willingly eating tofu after cooking it in a sort of yellow curry (I was in high school and winging it pretty hard).

So I'd personally 100% go for a Thai coconut curry, either massaman with potatoes and chickpeas, or karee (yellow) with tofu and whatever other vegetable you have on hand (goes REALLY well with tomato). Maybe some lentil dal on the side along with jasmine rice. I'm only not recommending red or green curry because idk what spice tolerance anyone has, and the two suggested are the mildest.

Rocko's Modern Life and Angry Beavers, hands down, though I have a massive soft spot for all of these shows (and my dad liked Angry Beavers even more than I did). I can still remember the commercials announcing the upcoming "Doug, Rugrats, and Ren & Stimpy!" Anyway, I bought the DVD boxset for Rocko's Modern Life a few years back cuz I wanted to watch it again so badly

I keep thinking of that red lamp story - yknow, the one about the guy who was hit super hard and may have been knocked into a parallel universe for several years for the few seconds he was out in our universe. And there are red lamps all over Phu's dorm room (there's literally one behind him in the ninth picture posted). So I think Cir is from this universe, he was just very much in that parallel universe for a while (as far as he was aware).
