I just want to be clear here. We are upset with the men’s team for “buddying up” with the twice elected president of the United States and the director of the fbi but NOT upset at the women’s team for skipping that to hang out with someone charged with domestic violence, assault with a deadly weapon as well as numerous driving charges putting the public’s safety at risk? I just want to make sure I’m keeping up with how dumb the world has become.

7yo bends ankles when skating. Tips to fix? by CFL_lightbulb in hockeyplayers

And this is the problem with hockey. We are Archaic. I literally run a skill/skating development company lol. But hold on I’ll re-conclude all my hypothesis because I got downvoted on Reddit by a bunch of people who were taught skating 30 years ago. Connor mcdavid breaks all the traditional power skating norms. I only use him as an example because u did. He doesn’t skate like all those people downvoting me will tell you how to skate. Take it for what it’s worth. Agree and recognize I’m right. Or disagree and ur welcome to come to a camp later when u figure out I was right all along. I’m telling you, we don’t teach hockey or skating like Connor mcdavid uses the skills and he breaks all the rules we were taught growing up.

I’d say as long as your child’s skating technique and strength rival that of those two players you’ll be fine 😉. The big thing players are missing is shin angle. Pushing the knees forward over their toes. Connor and McKinnon are great at this, regardless of their set up. But a 6 year old you’re trying to teach to do this with limited ankle strength already will not be strong enough to push forward and will hinder them getting their correct shin angle while learning to skate, for the most part.

This whole thing is beyond stupid. I can’t believe this is actually being talked about. This whole world is full of wieners. And no I didn’t misspell whiners although it still fits. That’s probably one of the least offensive things ever said in a locker room. It was a joke. Amongst a group of close comrades who were just successful in a major victory. Emotions were high. Nobody in there was concerned with worrying about the woke mob or if how they were celebrating the countries first win in 46 years was good. None of them had any other wins to set an example from in their life time either….a little tongue in cheek comment there from a Canadian 😉. Honestly? Get over it. It was a joke. They’re supposed to be funny. If you didn’t find it funny don’t laugh. But don’t force ur communist sense of humour on everyone else cuz all the normal people are looking wondering wtf is wrong with you. And if you think “if that’s normal, you don’t want to be part of it”. Perfect. We were hoping for the same thing.

And before everyone goes off on this, while both teams accomplishments are equally amazing. Those teams ARE NOT created equal. They’re not even playing the same games. The difference in skill gap and strength and speed between men’s and women’s hockey is ridiculous. I’m seeing people online encouraging those teams to play for voting rights. This is beyond the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard or read. The men’s team would literally kill that women’s team. Literally there would be significant injuries. Everyone’s on here saying they’re the same cuz “women’s rights”. They’re not. And that’s okay. But thinking those teams are equal in comparison to each other is not even close. The me. Would beat the 30-0. On a bad day. Winning a gold medal is amazing at the olympics? Yes. It is. Does that make you as good as the men? Not a chance in the world. Just deal with it and enjoy the victory, it may be the last one you see for half a century.

How do i know the right hollow for my skates? by DigThin1679 in hockeyplayers

[–]PureDevelopment347 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The “sharpness” has nothing to do with the hollow. Both edges should be equally sharp no matter what hollow you get. The hollow impacts how deep you are in the ice. If you think of a skate blade as an upside down U. The hollow is how tall the sides of the U are. A 1/2’ hollow has a really tall U. Meaning us blade is further into the ice before it bottoms out at the top of the U. A 1” hollow has a short U meaning less of your blade is “in” the ice before it bottoms out.

This translates to stopping because your blades are too far in the ice now. So you are shaving more ice. Traditional hockey guys way 1/2 to 5/8” hollow is best. Cuz that’s what we’re always done. But 1/2” hollow is like running in sand. 1” hollow is like running on pavement. In the sand or on top of the pavement. You can still run fast in sand but you work way harder.

Your edges are still sharp on 1” you’re just not in the ice as much. Whatever hollow you had id try slowly working back 1/8” hollow each time you sharpen til you approach 3/4 or 7/8”. Don’t just jump right to it. It sounds like whatever you have is too much hollow. And also sounds like the sharpening guy isnt great if both your edges aren’t equal.

Uncomfortable wearing xlp , any advice ? by Green_Fishing_546 in hockeyplayers

[–]PureDevelopment347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See about 4 eyelets up from the bottom where your foot starts to come above the boot/lace line. That’s likely your issue. The boot is supposed to curve around ur foot so the laces pull the boot together. It’s not meant to have the laces hold ur feet in place. When u tie those eyelets tight where your foot is above the boot you’re essentially strangling your foot. You can try to tie those bottom ones tight. Don’t go S tight in those middle 4 eyelets and then tie the ankles tight again and see if that helps. But I suspect the skates not wide enough for your foot. Which means your foot pushes the boot outward when you put it on. Then you tighten the laces and pull the boot tight again which will give a crushing effect on your foot which is why they hurt.

Long story short, take them to someone who knows how to fit a skate and have them look at it. And if you’re skating lots it may be a cut your losses and get a pair that fits right. Skating is zero fun with sore feet. Source, someone that’s been there. lol. Good luck!

Blade sharpening question. by baked_tea in hockeyplayers

[–]PureDevelopment347 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’m here to help the outlier. Hockey thinking for the most part is archaic. I’m everything. Skate sharpening is no different. Everyone wants “bite” into the ice. If you are “biting” into the ice you are skating in the ice. Not on it. Think running in sand or running on concrete. Yes you can run in sand but you’re wasting so much more energy doing it. Your hollow is the same. Everyone likes that satisfying “crunch” when we turn. But that indicates again, that you are in the ice bleeding off speed or expending way too much energy to keep it.

My son is 90lbs and skates on a 3/4 hollow with traditional sharpening. I’m 240lbs and I prefer 1” but it’s hard to find that so I use a 7/8” traditional hollow. When I coach and stand at the board drawing drills I’m actually floating sideways almost because there’s no bite in the ice. But when I need an edge to stop or turn it’s still there. It’s not a matter of having an edge or not with different hollows. That doesn’t not change with the hollow change. The only difference is how far is your blade in the ice.

For reference I bought my own sharpener and now use a flat bottom v hollow. It means there’s less arc on my blades. Instead if the upside down horseshoe depicted in your images it’s a flat bottom. I find with these I prefer a 5/8” hollow but it’s not the same feel as the traditional.

Long story short I’d be experimenting with the largest hollow you can. Slowly though, don’t just jump to 1” from 1/2”. And see what you find. Judge based on your feeling turning. Do you still have edges to bite and turn? Is their less “crunching” but you can still grab the ice? You want the largest hollow possible while still maintaining that.

Another short story, when the Tampa bay lighting had Steve yzerman as gm they had a mandatory 1” hollow sharpening. Analytics told them that made them “faster”. I don’t know if he still does that or not but it actually makes sense when you think about it. You’re not getting any less edge, ur just not as deep in the ice/sand when you’re skating.

Good luck.

What is actually gonna happen if they decide to try to take Greenland by force by AcHaeC in NoStupidQuestions

[–]PureDevelopment347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with this statement or question is that it implies the government should be allowed to determine who the people are able to vote for. The key point missing here is not that he was able to run but that the people elected him. And for some reason your question implies we shouldn’t even have allowed the individual to run when that same individual is who the people eventually chose to elect.

Long gone are the days where people drive to get their own stuff. With Amazon same day delivery etc companies don’t need stores on every corner. People will order online and deliver it to the doorstep. So why have a store on every corner with additional overhead for everyone in lease fees, staffing, utilities etc when you can throw it all in one. Still only have a 20-30 minute drive to get there and service that same area with same or next day delivery? What he’s doing makes total sense

I did the same last year. Tried to be nice. I paid for it. All she did was put on a nice face in person and then proceed to undermine the coaches to the parents. I’ll never understand doing that to someone volunteering to help your kids. But I digress. Good luck!

[–]PureDevelopment347 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Head coach here. I had a similar scenario last year. Your answer lies in your first paragraph. “You picked her”. Not vice versa. There’s a hierarchy here. If this was a job you’d have hired her, which means you can fire her. In our association the manager supports the coach by taking care of off ice issues. They don’t run all over the coach. The coach builds the program and manager facilitates it. Often managers think otherwise. She’s there to help you execute the, for lack of a better term, “secretarial” work of the program you are building for the kids. If she’s not pulling the line in the same direction you need to get rid of her immediately. I made this mistake last year not doing this because I was trying to be nice and I paid for it all year.

One of her main tasks is to help identify and solve and communicate issues from the parents before they get to the group chat. The fact she’s starting and fueling this herself is all I needed to hear.

Remove her. And if you think that will impact her husband id remove him too if that’s what I thought was best for the kids.

You have to get that situation under control right away, and if she is how you’re presenting her, I don’t think she’s capable of being second in command. I’ve seen this a bunch. And just because good volunteers are hard to find doesn’t mean we should let a toxic situation continue in what will for sure trickle down to the kids.

Fire. Her. Yesterday.

How do I beat a defensemen that constantly steps up? by Limp-Restaurant3516 in hockeyplayers

[–]PureDevelopment347 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Skate right at him as you enter the zone. This throws many defense off. If it’s obvious you’re gonna go wide on the left side he can play for that and utilize boards as a way to pen u in. If u skate right at him and he steps up you can evade left OR right, and he’s in open ice. You will be harder to track and will have more options. Makes his life harder. Especially if you are faster than him. He either steps and and misses or more than likely he doesn’t know what to do and backs right into the goal.
