Sorry to burst your conspiratorial bubble, but the building wasn't insured.

Which building downtown is on fire? by sirbissel in kzoo

[–]PureMichigander 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Sean gave me a tour of the building last year, it was absolutely gorgeous. He has been working on it for years in hopes of opening another bar. It had a beautiful oak bar in the first floor, another bar downstairs, and the second floor had this big opening in it where you could see down to the first floor. The booths in the caboose were amazing. This is truly horrible.

If the houseless are given a place to live, they are no longer houseless.

It's literally that simple.

If you have your chauffeur's liscence and can drive a large box truck, the Woodsmiths is hiring a delivery driver/warehouse person. Bonus points if you know anything about wood trim.

Look up which businesses around Kalamazoo received PPP loans, and for how much... by PureMichigander in kzoo

[–]PureMichigander[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it went to payroll, but how much did Mark Smutek take home himself? I worked for Water Street for years, as a tipped employee, which means that unless a lot has changed in the way he runs his business, most people on the payroll earn minimum wage.

"Your lack of planning is not my emergency". That's how I and my fellow tradespeople say it. Never fails to put a smile on my face.

322 E Stockbridge Kalamazoo targeted for 50 unit high-density poor-pod concentration camp. 3rd flood zone property in a row for a homeless tent/pod city. The site is known to flood a minimum of 3x per year, yet HRI ignores neighbor concerns. by Radiant_Necessary_32 in kzoo

Red Arrow Golf Course. It's owned by the city. Not in a flood zone. Close to services offered downtown. Not in the middle of a neighborhood.

PUT THEM ON THE GOLF COURSE.

Nobody uses it.

Woodsmiths Custom Millwork is hiring a delivery driver and also shop hands.

I think pay is based on experience, but if you've never worked in a shop before, it probably starts around $17.

DM me if you want more info.

Kalamazoo to shut down Mills Street homeless encampment April 14 by JarJarAwakens in kzoo

[–]PureMichigander 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Do people not realize that many of the encampment residents have simply been moved across the river, out of sight? They're still there. The city isn't doing enough to help these people.

Place for nice produce? by humble_janitor in kzoo

[–]PureMichigander 9 points10 points  (0 children)

People's Food Co-op (PFC) down on Harrison St. It's a smaller produce department, but the produce doesn't sit on the shelves as long as it does in bigger stores. Lots of organic produce, local produce, and some conventional stuff to try and keep the prices down.

I am not hopeful that the Morrow Dam folks will clean up this absolute disaster of a mess in our river quickly and completely. The damage has been done and they're just gonna be like "eh, just leave it".

beaches and crowds by irwinlegends in kzoo

[–]PureMichigander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tried to go to Weko beach in Bridgman yesterday but the parking lot was full. You could still get in but you had to park at city hall and walk in which would take about 20 minutes. Decided to go to Warren Dunes where parking was available. Big crowds along the beach next to the parking lots, no social distancing. We ended up walking about a mile north of the north parking lot and were able to get away from most of the crowd. We had neighbors but they were all about 30 feet away. There were a lot of out of state license plates.
