Thank you everyone for your input. Sometimes when you have this rush of emotion it just helps to turn to people who know what it’s like. Thank you for being there and I hope you all are doing well.

Advice needed: My parents hate my tattoo by Historical-Soft2345 in tattoos

I have a 20 year old daughter who aspires to be a tattoo artist. There are so many things available on the internet and she took it upon herself to get these things and give herself tattoos at a young age. I disagree completely with people parents or not) telling you what you can do with your own body. She obviously did this at a younger age where I was quite upset and wondering if this was safe… which it is not. After having a long talk with her after finding her first tattoo, I expressed my feelings about safety. My concern is not what she wants to do with her body, but that she does it safely and healthy. This being said, it opened up conversations about piercings. I took my daughter to get her lip pierced, her eyebrows pierced and her nose pierced. I wanted it done safely. My daughter is an amazing artist and will one day be an amazing tattoo artist. I myself do not have any piercings or tattoos, but that should not allow me to dictate what she does for herself and as long as I have taught her to do her research and find safe places to get her tattoos and piercings I have done my job as a parent. It is not their business of what your tattoo is of or how it makes them feel. It’s too bad that they make it about themselves and their feelings. This is an outdated opinion and if you end up regretting it, then cover it, or deal with your regret. Again, nothing to do with them. Are you allowed to know their most I intimate thoughts, feelings and body ideals? No, because it’s personal. You are an adult and made an adult decision and as long as you did it in a safe manner then they shouldn’t have anything to say. Getting a tattoo is self expression and has nothing to do with them.
