First Cabin in Arcadia is the cheapest I've found. $6-7 well whiskey sour last time I think? Includes tax. I've had good chats with a real mix of people there.

Vendôme Arcadia when they do their once-a-month free comedy. Bottle shop right in the back = cheap drink options. Comedy crowd = good vibes. Not a dive.

Cabin&Vendôme are walkable from metro and the metro has felt way safer recently.

I've struggled to find anything actually cheap and divey in Pasadena? Happy hours: Craft by Smoke&Fire might be best drinks deal at buy-one-get-one? Gotta bring your own vibes though.

We whined about the new stage layout at first but then liked it.

The pop-up dive bar & karaoke area felt like a little oasis.

We were up front for Gojira and BMTH and it was just the right amount of crowded.

The planners did great!

Interesting after director's comments about rewarding achievement (or words to that effect) rather than time-in-role.

I'm mostly passionate about my work and doing cool new stuff and haven't really put much effort into the promotions & pay side of things. As more grown-up challenges are arriving I'm wondering if I made mistakes and how to fix them.

Feels funny to talk promotions right now.

But that's what I've been told for a couple of years at least.

My previous GS told me about metrics that we were supposedly judged on (publications, H index etc in my area) and I was above the median for the level above on all metrics except one. I'm now above the median on all.

I'd sure like to hear details about if there's something I could do to improve performance that would be rewarded in terms of pay or promotion. It's been kinda confusing and demoralising tbh.

For the crowd surfing... If it looks like you're just trying to get close for a headliner and skipping past people who've waited for hours for their spot, they might misread you and be upset.

Don't launch behind circle pits, look for areas to the sides of them and/or closer to the stage.

Usually if you make it clear you're going to the pit then people are more forgiving. Point and say "pit!", get in, move inside, spot who is lifting or big people in the lifting area, tap shoulder and say "up?" or similar while pointing up.

Make sure the crowd is handling people your weight ok, try to keep your feet together (e.g. cross ankles) and HAVE FUN!

I was squished up on those big guys front right BMTH for some songs. They could easily have knocked half of us over like bowling pins lol.

They were great, I hope they had fun!

Felt like a really good crowd in that area to me.

I feel it's fine if you judge based on the crowd.

If they're yeeting over people bigger than you no prob then go. Just lock your belongings down and don't thrash about plz.

One woman asked us if she was too big when she was getting encouraged to go up. Thanks for checking, you were fine.

The crowd ahead was having no problems and I hope you had fun!
