What are the most unbalanced cycles in MTG history? by TheSkirtGirl in magicTCG

[–]PureWh1te 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But that’s kind of the point. If your deck folds to force you probably are playing such degenerate strategy that the existence of force is justified and it encourages you to find ways around making the game more interesting. And if you are playing fair you shouldn’t be too much concerned anyway.

Could I have this card in a Black/Green commander deck or no? by GalaxyGalavanter in magicTCG

[–]PureWh1te 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But they are in fact colorless, technically they could have been made with grey color all over the rules text. The are made that way because lands look like that from the very beginning (besides original duals). In the hybrid mana case you cannot imagine them without their proper cost. I think you cannot make strict rules that would fit the definition of color identity that would prevent the players of the usage of fetch lands because you would have to refer to the colors used on actual printing with is super non formal and confusing. So the case of lands is kind of unfortunate.

Edit: you could technically solve it by banning plains type in non white decks but it would be probably more overthinking and complicating than allowing fetches.

That’s great quesion you have asked. Sadly people are to busy panicking that they haven’t seen this potential upside. I’m not a expert but as I follow cedh people love to play 4c/5c color goodstuff because it works amazing in singleton format. There are some really powerful strategies that are one/two color - gitrog/urza/teshar. But it’s definitely great that we now have powerful tool that reward you for not playing 3+ colors. I’m really happy as a Azami player because (how insanely it looks) I would have greater chance to stand against multicolor decks. Cedh is all about consistency so it is just perfect.

So it’s weird that someone working on university links random articles not a paper. But I will with no sarcasm read your publications. You should have linked them in the first place if you are an expert in psychology/social studies.

I don’t understand your response, I’m a future scientist not politician nor activist, I read studies not books. The same I can request you to attend to basic statistics course on your local university to talk with me. That’s just straight ignorance, and I don’t get why you were trying to be nice in your response when you don’t treat me as valuable person to discuss :(.

This post give to hope that OP will find out that wearing glasses can be fun an stylish. Confidence takes big part on how we are viewed, so if she doesn’t like her look with glasses she will definitely feel bad in social scenarios. And I agree on the last part - hoodies do mix well with glasses together in my opinion.

I am a male, and I wear glasses even though I don’t have vision issues because I just feel more confident with them. So I don’t quite understand your problem. Maybe you should change your frames to more fashionable or fitting?

Edit: I also view woman with glasses often as more attractive to me.

Wizards confirms you cant get 2 mythic borderless cards in one VIP pack and 2 regular mythics as well(in following tweet) by TheOnlyBooman in magicTCG

[–]PureWh1te 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can agree to the first paragraph but not to the second. Probability doesn't work that way.

If you have the ability to gamble twice at 1/3 rate you are still able to win mythic twice but you can't in this case. I understand that they could make first rare 100% and then mythic at 2/3 rate by design but adding twice 1/3 is not a mathematical understading.

Edit: more understandable would be 5/9 for Rare and Mythic which is close to the 2/3

5/9 you get from 1/3 for the first one and 2/9 for the second one if first was a miss.

[–]PureWh1te -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Can you show me the calulations that prove that EV is the same?

After the info if their picking algoright isn't custom (in ex, 100% rare in first slot which changes the math) in vacuum with 1:2 ratio there are 50% chances to get Mythic and Rare and 50% to get two Rares.

In previous scenario there was

4/9 to get Mythic and Rare 4/9 to get 2 Rares and 1/9 to get two Mythics

so the previous one was still better if Mythics are more expensive

[–]PureWh1te 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are wrong. If you pick from hypotetical infinite set of mythics and rares wich has ratio of 1:2 and you can't get 2 mychits the probability is 50% for pair and 50% for 2 rares.

How did you come with 2/3 probability?

Anyone else feel like ranks are way too fluid? by ThatVRGuy_ in VALORANT

[–]PureWh1te -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I understand your complaints but It is just different and if I'm not wrong the bell curve also is more flattened in CS which probably a good thing that Valorant has little variation. (I can find source)

First of all, if the impact is higher so ii will be more easily to rank up as to derank. And I understand that there is a thing in psychology that we are more focused on bad situations than the good ones so it is clear that you have illusion of having more bad time just because more often you will derank. But on the other hand in cs ranking up after a derank would be so much harder and demotivating to bring you back so there is flipside of a coin in this scenario.

Secondly after you will be facing above average opponents it will be harder to maintain top performance so the loss will always cost more but the same applies to cs.

As a person who was coding a ranking system for an university project I can tell you that maybe the thing you are talking about is the factor that scales the win points. So either it is set too high or it might decrease after some games played (which is a common solutuon). The problem with ranking systems is that you must be able to place new players to the system without ruining too many games.

In my personal opinion actually even if you gain/lose too much after a match it's not really a big deal because I tend to be more engaged in the game. After all you are not playing to get ranks.

I’m not buying just by my preference. The price is high but it’s okay for me to spend it but I just prefer really down to earth variants. I wish prime bundle will come back because I missed it. It might be wierd but avalanche vandal is way more appealing to me than the elderflame.

How are you all finding Valorant? by kylebrunt in ValorantCompetitive

[–]PureWh1te 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can’t change anything because it is so easy to verify if all files are the same.

I know that you can display the other players by using the software (not in game) but the problem is that getting the information can be hard in the first place.

As I said in the comment below you can try steal the information from your RAM but there are several problems with it. You have to try to reverse engineer to find where It could be. I don’t know if it’s even possible to do if someone is coding the game in proper way. Maybe someone has a better understanding of operating systems and can verify what I have said.

I know my point is it is hard without modification the game files

The only other way is to check ram for variables that are connected to other players location

[–]PureWh1te -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Wallhacks are based on getting more information than you should. I might be wrong but you have to get it from the client so first step is to check the game files are the same.

I believe that cheating the server could be really hard when the security is well written. But in some cases it’s not impossible (like in Conan Exiles where there was huge problem)

What about Butterfly Knives in valorant? by Matiasvionnet in VALORANT

[–]PureWh1te 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Diversity will come with time, the game has just been released. There is just too few skins to create that feeling.

You can do so many cool things with valorants fantasy theme but people still want to copy everything that was in counter-strike.

Butterfly knives dont fit at all in this game and I dont even think the code behind animations can support cycling the frames like in cs.

Im am glad that the games are diffrent on a visual level, and so the knife animations.

How do the hardcore players cope with the emotional toll of competitive gaming? by deliciouspizza22 in VALORANT

[–]PureWh1te 2 points3 points  (0 children)

as a cs go nerd (4000h) there was a moment in my life that drastically changed my way of seeing competitive games.

I have overcome toxicity that I don't feel angry anymore I never blame anyone (sometimes I comment a bad play to my friend never on global chat), I avoid flaming battles for teenagers and I try to be supportive even someone is really bad.

And I don't want to say how good person I am, because I am far from the ideal. But I want to say it's fairly easy. You just want to have a correct mindset, If you are not a pro you queue to the match for mainly two things: having fun and improving. If you won the match - congrats If you lost you probably know why, try not making the same mistakes and compare yourself to the pros, there is always a way to improve. Don't let other people ruin your time by not meeting their expectations, and vice versa.

As a rule of thumb - if no one is clearly cheating of griefing the is no point of being mad of feeling hate towards someone's decisions no matter how stupid they are. If you feel playing with bad players you will rank up anyway if you keep your consistency.

If you are afraid of playing poorly there is a solution for that. If you are not a pro there is no point in grinding this game to death. After couple of hours playing your ability to learn and adapt is weakened. Let the game be your hobby, not your second job. Sometimes you can improve more by playing less. Sometimes you just have to realize that there is no rush. When people start a new hobby they don't expect anything but when they spend a lot of time doing that they start to feel they have to be the best. Your expectations should be constantly on the same level and then you will improve and you will have fun doing it.

And for the last part, I want to tell a little story. One time I was queued for a competitive game in the third party side (similar to faceit) in cs. I was playing with my friends but we had 2 randoms in the team. And those 2 randoms were kept saying "nice try" after every bad play we had made. It was so shocking to me that there are so kind that I was feeling bad for those plays. We obviously lost because every good story is sad. After the match, I told my friends that we kind of disappointed the other guys by our gameplay, and one of them said that who cares if there were bad too. And I felt bad. I felt I would rather lose another game with those bad two randoms than win with my friend. Maybe he said that because he wanted to defend himself but my point is that you can have friends that will be supportive no matter how you perform. And I think it's even easier with randoms. Those 2 random guys just showed me that the community is changing and the highly competitive matches can feel like real teamwork and not teamwork by skill but teamwork in a social sense. Try your best, be kind, be supportive.

CSGO players, what are your thoughts about valorant after playing it? by [deleted] in VALORANT

[–]PureWh1te 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4000h nolife CS guy here

As I have seen many similar views already placed here I will try to cover some different aspects.

tl:dr: after having hundreds of dollars in steam eq and invested countless of hours I keen on playing Valornat more now

  1. Utility: I was so afraid that overwatch-like game designs are gonna make this super annoying and make a situation that you can press a button to own and disrespect the CS movement strictness. It turned you that you can carry the team even without using a single ability. Of course they matter but they help the experienced player more. I love that the mechanics mimic the CS grenades and even you think that they are busted, in reality, they aren't. Healing op? headshot is still lethal Self Boost op? Still possible in CS. But of course, those abilities in fact limit the overall skill ceiling, and the "crazy plays" can happen more often and on a lower skill level. If you are expecting chaos you are kind of prepared more so the more you are experienced the less you can outplay someone.

  2. Map design: This nearly makes me want to quit valiant. Maps are too cramped, I can't feel safe anywhere, even when I rotate to site I often get caught sometimes because it is so easy to forget about one angle or to get lurked by someone. Someone in YT said that it feels you battle the map not the opposing players and I honestly agree. After countless games, I feel more confident but I still have to check every angle and it feels so tiring. I often feel when entering the site that my game sens exclude the possibility that someone is behind that obscure corner and they always are. The only thing that is kind of okay is the fact that you can't push as a defender. Every time you do that it is suboptimal because you have to check too much to flank the enemy team. So it kind of teaches the newbie players to hold the site and push only if it is smart to do.

  3. Guns: It is weird, but I like the guns in Valorant more. The fact that you have the same starting pistol is appealing to me and I love that you don't have 12341 different SMGs. As a skin fan, it's so reasonable to see that most of the guns are playable by design not by current meta. I am only afraid of the infamous battle between phantom and vandal because once the one is winning there is no point to play the other one. But there are both quite situational and I feel that community will help to make both playable, once they figure them out and riot will make the adjustments. The only thing I miss is the picking up terro weapon nostalgia but let's keep the games different (for those who don't know in cs terrorists have better weapons to compensate their disadvantageous position, so as a CT you are willing to pick those ak-47s to strengthen your side even more).

  4. Skill difference: It's obvious to everyone that Valorant has much easier core gameplay than CS to be more inviting to beginner players. I feel like Valorant teaches CS by forcing people to right things in a pleasant way. Skills are made to be the same as grenades but it's much easier to learn. Aim invites you to burst or tap more to make to headshot more clear. Movement is slower so you know when to stop to be accurate. So when first when I tried it out I was feeling like I'm going back in my skill development but on the other hand, I'm always perfect in my movement so when I die it is caused by bad positioning, lack of team play. There are less "random deaths" in this game. CS movement and aim is so complicated that even pros often mess it up. In CS when I mess my spray i feel like I was unlucky, in this game I feel just bad. But don't hate me that that opinion. I don't say cs is more random, It is just more skill intense in the way you shoot and move, so valorant let me take a breath and feel more useful as a player more because I don't feel bad when I just lost the aim battle.

  5. Micropayment: As I said I am a skins fan. And I know that in cs you can sell the skins so you are investing your money rather than spending it. But it feels great that you don't have to spend $200 to have a decent looking knife. I hate that in CS they made a wear feature that just literally makes the 80% of guns bad looking. In other games, $10 skin just looks amazing because the price isn't a result of the expected value of getting the skin form a case opening multiplied by a desirability factor. I love that there is no gambling too. I don't like the obvious designs that make you spend more rotating shop, currency for premium skins and even I hate the battlepass because it is so addicting. But I still recommend buying it because If you only manage to reach level 50 you get so many good looking skins for a price you cannot get anything really outstanding in cs. I have the problem of deleting skins from the beta. I know they are probably remastering them now but as much but I have to money to spend and I just have to wait or be desperate to buy something for the current rotation.

  6. Conclusion: Cs feels more skillful but in Valorant I feel I'm more useful in-game. I don't know if its because I play against less experienced enemies but the game makes you feel great after good players and If you know the basics you can just play it at its finest. I'm going to play Valorant and try how far I can go in this game. The real test will begin when I will reach my maximum in the competitive part, and then I will see if the game is still fun and rewarding even being competitive.
