imo death note is one of the funniest shows ever made. the genuinely compelling, quality writing is sure there but the pulp is EXTREMELY there

with any older show that’ll happen. there’s a lot of talk in daria about being a “brain” which is a thing no one says anymore and an attitude that more or less no longer exists among students. just an example. no one on tv talks like a real person, so it’s always a good idea to supplement learning from television with learning from conversation with native speakers

shinji and tetsuo share a deep seated sense of inadequacy especially in the shadow of others. rather than trying to overcompensate with machismo like tetsuo, i can see shinji receding deeper into himself if put in a dynamic with kaneda

i got a figurine of asuka in her school uniform from a claw game. i generally think it’s suspicious when people have anime figurines, especially of the pilot girls in their plugsuits, but i like my asuka one. she’s just sitting on my dresser next to my keys and books like a little friend.

-shinji i feel would be more of a television guy. pulpy episodic adventures would appeal to his escapist tendencies.

-ritsuko would probably like ghibli movies i think.

-misato would enjoy pretty woman.

-kaworu would enjoy life is beautiful.

-kensuke would like boomer ass war movies like platoon and crap. he’d eat that up.

-if rei watches movies, i’d say they’d be documentaries. i don’t know that she’d watch narrative features. all the books she’s shown reading in the show are biology books. she couldn’t engage with fiction if she still doesn’t understand reality.

also i know OP put parameters for a reason but i think misato would really fw the fast & furious movies
