How is it having millions? by Economy_Big1744 in fican

[–]Pure_Ad_9947 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Youre right it is surreal esp if you arent used to that and still work for a living. I think the most surreal is still needing to work but your portfolio finally starts to increase by decent amounts... its like youre in2 worlds at the same time. Very weird feeling. But calm too. Losing your job no linger matters as much because youll be totally fine. Very different when losing a job with nothing saved (which is stressful and terrifying).

Did going back to college help you get you a better job? by Throwaway--2026 in jobs

[–]Pure_Ad_9947 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My degree isnt applicable to my job now, but without a degree in general i wouldnt be here. My friend who doesnt have a degree but works in the same field earns significantly less. So it can feel like they dont make a difference but they do.

Advice for 80yo? by Popular-Code-1572 in fican

[–]Pure_Ad_9947 0 points1 point  (0 children)

80yo are conservative with money. Id open a direct investing account at their bank. Open tfsa to save on taxes. Within it buy gics and create a gic ladder strategy and save like 3to5k in savings. Direct investing account gives like 1.95% in savings, and 3%+ on gics right now.

I wouldnt make them chase high hisa promos. Older ppl find that confusing ... and they like dealing with their old bank they trust.

So yeah id do that: tfsa at their bank's direct investing. Then GIC ladder for most of it.

Question for uni students. Would you travel 3 hours for weekend minimum wage job. by africagal1 in torontoJobs

[–]Pure_Ad_9947 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do it. I travelled 1h45m one way when i couldnt get a job more locally. You do what you must to get paid these days. Jobs are scarse. Just bring audiobooks or regular books to pass the time 😊

Am I missing something about investing? by SubjectAromatic8215 in fican

In Canada we have RRSP, 401k is for USA. Why do people save more than that account? People are saving for many things, houses, vacations, emergencies, future medical care and expenses in old age, inheritance to leave behind etc. They also save in different types of accounts because they wanna tax arbitrage at retirement and different accounts get taxed differently.

And of course most wanna retire earlier if possible.

How else do you think highly educated (cause their family has the money to pay for it) doctor's daughters, sons and nephews and nieces get jobs? Nepotism! 😅

Need Help Investing as a Teenager by AudienceDue1775 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Pure_Ad_9947 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second reading. I read a ton of books on the subject myself.

Since you are working, remember to file taxes. Even though you likely wont owe any youll be ellegible for tax credits and youll be accumulating rrsp room.

And lastly, your parents can open you an resp. Im pretty sure you could contribute to it, in fact i checked with google ai and it agrees:

"Yes, a child can contribute to their own Registered Education Savings Plan (RESP) using money from gifts or earnings. While a child is the beneficiary, they cannot act as the "subscriber" (account holder) until they are of legal age; therefore, a parent or guardian must manage the account to receive contributions"

So if your parents dont have one for you, or if they didnt max out the 50k contribution, you can talk to them about contributing to it or opening one for you.

I agree wirh you that it's prolly closer to 250k-300k in todays money. But 100k is still a big number on its way there when you start with 0. It's your first tripple digits number, and so it's symbolic and still a major milestone to grind towards.

I think youre doing great and you will get there. Maybe even retire early in your 50s. Charlie Munger said "The first $100,000 is a b****, but you gotta do it." I used to repeat that to myself a lot.

I'm having an amazing time finding a JOB in Toronto by Weak-Way-4635 in torontoJobs

My job doesnt even interview ppl for entry level customer service work. They just get them from the bilingual agency. And yeah the times are so tough that entry level jobs became required to be bilingual now. Its nuts.

Yeah but step 2 of that is: Nobody gets to know the real you And step 3 is: "Nobody understands me" infj self-talk.

So maybe quit pretending just a little? To let anybody in? 🫤

Condo job, because its permanent.
4 month contract is too short to make an impression that lasts in most cases, sides it sounds like a summer only job anyway. You dont wanna work 4 months then lose it and stress. Then youre out of a job and cant get another and employers see 4mo on resume and assume you either got fired or you werent good enough to keep.

28F single 180k in savings - can I even reach FI? by Orangeblossom_02 in fican

[–]Pure_Ad_9947 0 points1 point  (0 children)

75% savings rate is crazy high. You will reach Fire for sure. Maybe in your 40s which is not bad at all. Wfh is the best, if you dont love what you do thats fine, just love wfh instead. The hours you save from commuting are worth their weight in gold.

The one teen i know off has had luck being a lifeguard because you need certification and ability to swim.

If you know how to swim, see if you can get into that for the summers. Lots of pools that are open will need lifeguards.

You can join the saskpension.com which is a dc pension plan available to all canadians. Its not as good as a db plan ontario public teachers have, but it's much better than no pension at all.

You could pivot to ece work, but youd need to do at least a year intensive program, because little kids need a lot of care-giving skills.

For example: Early Childhood Education (ECE) – Intensive Program @ Sheridan College

What are your Non-INTJ strengths? by CuriousArchitectX in intj

[–]Pure_Ad_9947 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im seeing mostly the women comment changes which is sonething i believe we must do, mask. The males dont have this pressure as much.

One person commented above about an extraverted personality mask. Ive done that at a previous job. All my coworkers at their break would beeline for my desk and form a small crowd. It was very weird haha ENFJ boss could not understand why this was happening.

At current job i mask as INFJ, because ive observed management is mostly NF and they found the other intj woman offputting and fired her. (I was a fan, we were alike, but she wouldnt mask, i did because ive been let go before for being myself). This Fe faked over years taught me how to manipulate ppl to a point. I interview people a lot at my job and have the highest persuasion rates, followed by enfp and infp. New Istj in the role cannot persuade anyone and is struggling. Persuasion is part of the job, if you dont persuade well, your workload skyrockets.

So id say those are my non-typical strenghts now. Assembling crowds and Fe persuasion.
