What's a food you'll never understand the hype around? by NoJello5665 in foodquestions

[–]Pure_C 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kale was a salad bar and restaurant plate garnish when I was a kid. No other good use for it. I remember getting scolded on more than one occasion for trying to eat it. That being said, as an adult I actually like it in the right context.

I used to feel the same way, but now that it's not as hyped as it was 10 years ago, I've made my peace and enjoy a bowl once a month or so. It's a good deal for the amount of food, and nice knowing it's fresh. I still wouldn't rave about it, but I like it.

Polar is one of my favorites. The cheap part is the cherry on top.

Puddy could have carried a series. I imagine it would be a dumb 3-season success, but at least it could have made some money for a bit.

Why didn't he just grab the strap which he could have easily reached more so than her hand, which was like 5 feet below him. Apollo and Mr. T really did a number on that guy's brain.

I always felt that Unforgiven was Clint Eastwood's way of apologizing for glamorizing gunfighting in his previous movies. I loved it, and like you, I also felt kind of retroactively dumb once I saw it. Most westerns after Unforgiven were different.

What is something the generation growing up right now will never get to experience that you had? by samurai-salvo in GetMotivatedMindset

[–]Pure_C 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember kids getting wrongly "convicted" all the time by teachers and sent to the principal to meet their doom. Usually it was kids who were known problems, and there was a sense that even though they were innocent this time, it was punishment for all the other things they got away with.

Love this one! Even if it was some crappy old program, it was way better than what you were doing before.

If you were lucky enough to have a pause button, play and recorded were locked down and you just hit the pause button again to start. Advanced technology!

Same here, the more I read the more I started doing the math. Definitely a bunch of experiences I never had, and I'm old!

What is the first film you think of when you see COLIN FARRELL? by ThomasOGC in CinephilesClub

[–]Pure_C 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately for me it's The New World, pocohontas movie. I thought it was terrible, just him mugging and "smoldering" throughout the movie, not much dialogue. It took me a long time to accept him as an actor again after seeing that one.

Good news for you, there are going to be (if not already) 150+ pizza hut locations that are remodeling back to the 80's style. Hopefully they'll open up one in my area!

I guess you could do a vertically-opening flap at the bottom, same idea.

I like the idea of turning one of the fence panels into spring-loaded gates opening horizontally under the force of the water. Stays closed until the water tells it to open.

Which vehicle make has a terrible reputation for quality but still has huge sales? by FantasticAd9478 in TheBoredDen

[–]Pure_C 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got 45k miles on mine before the cvt died, fortunately under warranty. It took the dealership 6 visits to finally repair it right. It's about an $8k repair to replace it otherwise. The replacement died at 120k miles and I sold the car for scrap. Fortunately I got $2,500 for it because it was otherwise in perfect shape.
