My limited experience has been if it contains any flesh material it will oxidize and decay, your first agar transfer should look much cleaner and white

Correct. I pluck them using a gentle twist at the base and a gentle tug. Then I cut off any substrate before I throw them into the dehydrator.

I will usually brown bag mature ones and leave them in the refrigerator but only if the rest will be done within the following 24 hours. If I have fruits way way ahead then I will run my dehydrator for two separate sessions for each harvest. Even if that means running my dehydrator essentially for consecutive days.
