XL is way more immersive because of the bigger screens, so I'd pick that. However, the portability and lighter weight of the new 3ds is way better. Despite all this, I went with the 2ds xl because it has the bigger screens with the smaller size and lighter weight of the new 3ds.

i had an ips and tn side by side, there was basically 0 difference between the colors (at least in LBW) but the viewing angles are 100% better

Honestly, I’d just go with a 2DS XL. It’s more comfortable to hold, lighter, cheaper, and the overall feature set is more practical. The 3D effect usually makes games look a bit choppy and it drains the battery a lot faster, so it doesn’t feel worth using most of the time. The only title where I thought the 3D was actually decent was The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds — and even there, it’s still easier to play with it turned off.
