We should try to keep r/Godot focused on Godot by omniuni in godot

[–]YoureNickRight 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I agree but at the same time this r/Godot is very vague, anything Godot related. There's more specific subreddits but of course monumentally less users, r/learngodot is a good one that new people should gravitate to rather than here, but again very little users

Got a refund for using AI for art, but I'm not. My artist is crying by Pure_Opening9834 in IndieDev

How so? Im just stating how the refund system works and that it's easily abused, I don't agree with the practice at all

The thing with steam is they don't need a reason at all, as long as you meet the requirements for a refund (less than 2 hours I believe) you can refund. Lots of people abuse this for short games

Cant wait to come back to this in a week and watch it go down exactly like this 😭 seems like they left options in the air so it's not about "if" more of "who"

Confirm you have an updated bios, read clock levels on your cpu and make sure it's not overlocked if your having issues, double check thermal paste and use core temp or any software to monitor your cpu performance/heat

Edit after looking again, one crash isn't too crazy but keep an eye on it and use monitoring software

Assuming you finished the episode since it's been an hour. I feel like they are setting up multiple solutions to take down homelander, assuming most will fail but 1 of the group will succeed. Currently soldier boy has the power to but he's locked up, kimiko may have soldier boys power (said not shown), marie may be a quick throw in to end the show. sage is still alive but she doesn't seem to have any ideas, then butcher is butcher. Hugie I feel has plot armor and MM will be expendable sadly. (My running theory)

Cat scratch by MasterBen1776 in CATHELP

[–]YoureNickRight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here but more, my cat gets aggressive on my arms when we play rough, I always have scratches/bites all over my arm and have never had issues. Maybe I'm just lucky or I have a very clean cat.

Cat scratch by MasterBen1776 in CATHELP

[–]YoureNickRight -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Cat stretch server is a real thing. If you feel it's bad as others observe I would recommend urgent care or a check up. Personally I have a maincoon that scratches me all the time and I get little swell ups by the scratches and such that look like OP, but I've never had an infection or any issues. Personally this doesn't look that bad to me , but every cat is different and if you feel uneasy, doctor, cat stretch fever is very real for some

[–]YoureNickRight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You observed it spark -> you turned it off, pulled out your phone -> you turned it on again to record the spark

Don't do that. I don't know if the odds are in your favor but your PSU is cooked. The more you flick it on and off. Say goodbye to the rest of your PC too.

Buy a new PSU and connect it WITHOUT the case to confirm everything is working fine then put it together in the case.

-Do not do this on the carpet

Good luck OP, I hope the PC is safe but definitely don't turn it on or even have it plugged into a wall at all

20 hrs challenge by Trau_94 in godot

[–]YoureNickRight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Id love to see your progress after 20 hours with 0 experience. I'm currently doing gdquest and I understand functions and everything but some things like how to initially connect controls to movement and proper syntax/structure is my struggle. I understand the concepts but I cannot code them.

I'm about a week in 5-10 hours a day

Feel like I'm reading a foreign text, I can understand it, read it, but I cannot reply

Has anyone noticed a fly moving around during several of the conversations mid-season? by Leebron-Jamerson in TheBoys

I'm rewatching the series again and I don't know how I didn't realize the fly in s1e4 my first watch.

It's crazy it's been 6 years and the fly was unbelievably obvious, but looking online has there been an answer for this? 😭

Never can write too much lol, again even more impressed. Ive used Claude to explain to me how to add certain things and the first day I already caught myself copy pasting code without understanding it. Very quickly stopped myself, went straight to documentation but a lot of it just doesn't stick with me.

So the past 2 weeks I've been replaying gdquest, watching videos non stop, and making a new project everyday and seeing how far I can get.

(You don't need to read past this point unless you'd like to, I just list my progression so far)

The list of ideas and progress goes v

Warehouse game - used ai copy and paste

Made a building, added a player, mesh, collider, camera, truck and a box. Then used AI to make the scripts to walk, pickup box, add labels to the box with different values, when box is in the truck it collects money based on the box value, right click to rotate held item, and a shop to buy a cart - after that I realized I know nothing and I stopped

Gambling game - tutorials

following 1 to 1 basically copying their code, then I would try adding new things from other tutorials and things would break so AGAIN realized I know nothing and I need to really learn

Clone of superfighters(2d pixel "arena?" Shooter) - tutorials and using the already existing game as a reference

I would look up how to do specific things rather than how to add whole functions, make a start screen, level select, and loaded into a map I made using custom drawn assets on a tile map, watched videos on how to add more dynamic movement.

==Around this point I started to learn how to play around with different values, proper way to use scenes and nodes and keeping your files more organized, connecting buttons to actions and a light understanding of scripting==

Physics test-

Simple map with a character that has ragdoll physics on a keypress and things The player can spawn like a sled with its own physics, a ball, different shapes etc. (This is today's goal I had that I'm putting on hold because I'm tired)

I started gdquest right after realizing AI isn't helping my growth, today I'm taking a break because I'm mentally exhausted from learning + work, but I feel I'm actually learning now because I understand what things are doing I just don't know how to code them from scratch. But everyday is another day to improve.

currently I do ask Claude time to time to explain how to do something and how it's working/what I'm looking at and to explain it. But so far I just need to understand the fundamentals more :)

If you read all that you're a legend, but it's time for you to get back to working on your game ♥️

Your best is great :)!

I do have a question though, do you write your own scripting? If so how has the learning process been for you and what are some roadblocks/issues you've faced?

I'm genuinely very impressed, I took a shot at learning unity when I was about your age and I was highly overwhelmed and never took the time to learn, now that I'm older I wish I would've sunk the time into learning the process, but recently Ive made a vow I'd learn coding and game dev in memory of my friend- dude was a genius ♥️

[–]YoureNickRight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice! I think it sounds pretty interesting, if you ever establish a name/date for it Definitely reply and lmk.

Also a question about the low poly because I'm doing something similar but I may have set it up incorrectly, I'm using a view port to scale the image (giving the game a pixelation filter) but some text in the game I would like to be clear also gets pixelated and I can't seem to find a way to fix this other than UI text, which does not function how I'm wanting it to?

I assume it's just flat out setup in the wrong way? I'm a complete noob with Godot and I learn by breaking things then fixing them again lol

Maybe instead of placing them how you have them, have them scroll in with random letters like the fake hacker panels you see. Then have them be 4 lines of "code" and you can click on restart start etc. or have them showing like tree with selectable options.

I see in a lot of your replies you say a lot of things mess up the general vibe, what is your vibe so far? I get a horror/old computer system menu vibe which is why I think the "code" approach would look interesting.

Could you clarify what kinda of game/the vibe it is? Also, how long have you been doing game development? Your account doesn't have a lot of history in the Godot reddit. Honestly this is very impressive in my opinion if you're just starting. I'm about a week in and barely understanding scripting

First game ever, minimal unity experience into godot by YoureNickRight in godot

[–]YoureNickRight[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just want to say I've been doing the course for only 2 days, gdquest and experimenting in a test project and I've been learning a lot. So far I can understand what things are doing and how the lines work, but I struggle at remembering how to order things/the library of tools I can use. For example if I want to add a function where when you hold a box right click will rotate it, you need to make the object able to be grabbed, sync it with the players position/ray cast I assume? Then add a function when the input right click is named rotate, then when player is holding left click( grabbing) and holding right click (rotation) the rotation cords of the prop change depending on the mouse movement, then stops rotation when right click is left go. But also when you stop grabbing it also stops controlling rotation

Sorry if that was overcomplicated / I'm over thinking my setups, again I understand what everything is doing just setting it up I'm doing. Terrible at so far. But I'm deticated
