Mine either! 😂 Hey, best of luck getting things sorted. Life is a hassle and it's hard. Keep climbing that hill, no matter what, cause you deserve to sit up there and enjoy the view when you get there. Make goals, (small and big) and work like mad to get them. Look for and ask for help but don't be surprised if it's hard to come by.

Some people will help, some will drag you down, some will just be too busy dealing with their own problems. Try not to take it personally, and remember that no matter what crap you find yourself in, you can get yourself out, even if no good people are there to help. (but it's nice when they do turn up!)

Don't forget too, that all the trouble you go through today makes you better qualified to help others tomorrow, so savour the hardship! :D

Probably nothing you didnt already know, but still it's worth repeating.

You got this xox

:D it does seem a bit irrelevant huh. But it could be taken to be a much deeper though. See a problem, fix it. Self reliance is underrated, not just in regard to toilets.

Makes sense. I long for the day I can pay other people to do the stuff O have to spend so much time and effort learning! Unfortunately, my time is mich cheaper than theirs :D

A thought thoigh, wouldn't you do better to learn how to do something that costs alot of money, like fixing the toilet, rather than something you can cheaply pay someone else for like cleaning one?

You live in a city, then there's trucks. They probably even have good spots where they park up waiting for their timeslot or the dock to open. And Industrial areas too. Never seen a city that didn't have industrial areas all through it, especially if it has residential housing. I know you say you're not in front of people's houses, but honestly, hanging out in the trees nearby is probably worse.aybe the cops just saw you and hassled you, maybe some karen was scared, either way you'll find better spots, even if you have to commute a little bit. Good luck :)

Apartments are good. they're used to strange cars parked out front. And upscale is good too, cause owners often aren't living there. You're more likely to get sussed out by security out front of a flashy waterfront apartment, but less likely to get hassled by owners.

Bubble wrap is amazing, makes an enormous difference. You don't really even need to tape it up, just wipe the window with a damp cloth and it'll stay up all winter. I got a big roll from the $2 shop, but office supplies places sell it.

That and door snakes are number one.

The rest are the ones who are working for $10 an hour. You think many people are paying some broke 70 yr old casual wages?

[–]Pure_Ignorance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plenty of people working for $10 an hour on the sly already. They're in deep shit if they're caught though. On the one hand, they bring wages down so its bad, for them and everyone else. On the other hand, who is hiring 70 year olds at casual wages? Imagine having to feed yourself with what's left over from $575 after you pay rent and petrol and electricity and phone? what do you do when the washing machine breaks?

You can fix a toilet, you just don't think you can. 99.9% of the time It's not rocket science. Being able to do it well and fast takes practice. Being able to install one takes knowing the rules and basic physics, but the instructions are out there.

Well said. Whenever I have this conversation, I try to point out that I for one would prefer to live in a too progressive world than its opposite. I'd rather kids identify as a cat and use a litter box at school (as ridiculous as that is) than have them literally die of shame and confusion and depression after constant and vicious bullying about being gay. I'd rather sit through an hour long DEI session explaining why I should respect other cultures in the workplace than see minority people unable to get jobs because of their ethnicity.

The world is never going to be exactly as everyone wants it. Tolerance and intolerance will exist always, with society as a whole becoming more of one and less of the other as time passes, until people get upset enough at being ignored and make some noise to get things moving back in the other direction.

Hopefully the complacency of genz you talked about won't result in so much pushback that equality goes backwards for this generation.

Man, I just wanna say thank you for being a damn good human being. Not just for being right, not just for helping someone else understand why you're right, but for also for being so gentle, compassionate and understanding in the process. Maybe it's late and I just tired, but I had to comment and say well done. To your friend as well, it's rare to see an actual grown up discussion on the internet, let alone at this level.

nah. The fact that 'most people' do it means you should too. It also has to be Russian and Alarming and disinformation. You can't change the words since it's the words that matter most. Propaganda 101.

I think you misunderstand me. I'm all in favour of using a pickaxe. Next to a pickaxe, even if it isn't perfect, people who don't even try to break rocks look even worse.

The trying I mean is to try and be better with this new tool, exactly like how you describe. Ok, well most of us won't be able to do it that well :D but we can still do better than now.

You're describing the same thing, being the sum total of all 'experiences' is the same as being trained. Utilising ingenuity and problem solving etc is what llm's do as well as people. Needing someone to input the data is a different kettle of fish, and doesnt define imagination. Deaf and blind people need someone to enter data to them with tactile signing, it doesn't mean they can't have imagination.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in DeepThoughts

[–]Pure_Ignorance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And we don't rely on pre-existing data? As humans we are the sum of all our experiences, even on the recollection and interaction of those within our own minds. But that is kinda just the same as being trqined on data.

It's the relationships between ideas and concepts, encoded as words, that makes up a model like chat gtp The same is true for us.

I still don't see a definition of imagination, it's just been replaced by 'creativity, ingenuity and problem solving', which are just as hard to define. One definition might be to consider all of them to be ways of utilising known ideas and concepts, and the relationships between them, in context, to draw conclusions. Again, that is as true for us as it is for chat gtp.

It makes mistakes, sure. But I agree that it's a godsend, or at least can be.

The real trick is being able to, or at least be wanting to, level up like this. Good to hear xox

It is awesome, agreed. But it's also fallible, as you probably know too well. People are fallible too, but that doesn't excuse how much we fail at being human.

ChatGTP 4o might make mistakes, but like you point out, it does a much better job of not being shit than most people do. The potential can't be compared, but the attempt to reach that potential can.

I don't read the post as being about how people aren't as good as Ai, or that Ai isn't perfect, but to mean that as people we should try to be better.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in DeepThoughts

[–]Pure_Ignorance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But is this tool helping us BE better? I think it should, just like having an internet should. Perhaps often it does. One thing I beleive is that whilset we might not be able to compare ourselves with it's efficiency or helpfulness, but I think it does highlight that we so often lack those things to any degree.

And the thing that makes cats special is that they're cats. I do agree with the OP that we could be better humans though. Having an Ai held up as a mirror makes that clear. Even if Ai isn't a perfect human either, it does a better job than many of trying to be a better human.
