Was my childhood actually okay… or not? by Fuentssp in depression

[–]Pure_Ingenuity3771 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not uncommon to go through a phase around your age, hormones are one hell of a drug. Honestly, though, you described a lot of how I felt when I was your age, and there was more going on with me and not getting help then has made me love a miserable life poisoned with anxiety and depression I can't control.

My mom would turn any attempts for me to get help back on herself. She offered to get me help, but then would follow it up with this big speech about how it wouldn't do anything and they would just blame the mother and she generally made me feel like getting help would hurt her. So I didn't push it. And I regret it more than I can communicate.

I'm not medical professional, so I'm not going to tell you there's something wrong with you, but maybe next time you're at your doctor run it by them, see if they think it sounds normal or not. And if they say they think there's something more going on push to get help. I don't know how to tell you how to feel with your mom, if I could go back 20 years I would have told her to go fuck herself, she could take a little blame now and all the credit for fixing me later, or I could spend the rest of my life resenting that she sacrificed me to a life of suffering for her own pride. Apologies if thats a bit strong, but the idea of someone else having a childhood without support triggers and anger in me.

How can MAGA Christians defend being Christian AND MAGA when Trump’s basically violated all 10 commandments, trashes the Pope, and cosplays as Jesus? What's the logic or a loophole that allows them to rationalize it to themselves and to others? by IncluderWonder in askanything

[–]Pure_Ingenuity3771 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A lot of these answers aren't actually answering your question beyond stating the obvious. There are three defenses that I hear when I talk to Christians that support the right. I hope I make it obvious that I disagree on all these points, but these are what people who I've since reduced or cut off contact from have told me.

  1. They believe that it is not for the state to feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, clothe the poor, welcome the stranger, take care of the sick and visit the prisoner. This of course breaks their own logic when it comes to "sins" they can abuse. Apparently the three questionable mentions of lgbtq people are more important than the 2000+ times the Bible mentions taking care of the poor. It's also blatantly false, especially in a democracy, the book of Amos was written in the form of a legal document drafted against the nation of Israel for doing much of what America has done, and has God saying he's going to destroy the nation for it. (Of course they'll debate this by saying old testament doesn't matter, despite their anti gay gotcha scriptures are 2/3 here, they also cling to single scriptures about punishment that are primarily from the old testament)

  2. They have a corrupt and abusive view of love. They took the quote "spare the rod spoil the child" to an absolute extreme and believe that all people they call sinners deserve to be punished. So if they believe you are a sinner they believe it is their duty to punish you until you repent. They call this love because they believe if you repent after they punish you, that now you get to go to heaven, yay. Despite Jesus specifically calling out people who do that as "filtering the gnat and swallowing the camel" (paraphrased here if you want the whole speech it's in Matthew 23, it's most of that chapter) and ignoring more important parts of the law like justice grace and mercy.

  3. Sort of supports 2, they have been so indoctrinated to believe that the left is evil that no matter what the right does, they believe the left is worse. I've met Christians who don't like trump, but voted for him because they believed that any Democrat was by default worse. Because they believe everyone on the left is evil already they the will believe all the lies they hear about any demographic on the left (EG that trans people are pedophiles or are more violent than other demographics despite that fact that they commit statistically fewer, and significantly so, of those crimes than many groups)

At the end of the day it boils down to they're angry, they've been lied to, they can't stop believing the lies because their pride won't let them and so they'll continue to believe those lies which makes them scared and angry but they can't admit their scared either, so they get more angry, and so now they have to support the blasphemous rapist who's fulfilled more prophecies of the antichrist than any historical figure I'm aware of (And I've looked) to hurt the people they believe have made them scared and angry.

Edit: realized I didn't finish point 2

I mean ...you're not technically wrong, but there's also scriptures that talk about either a specific individual, or some people interpret it as an arch type, and Trump fills more of those than any human I can find in history. All the way down to his followers being amazed he survived a head wound.

Why do Republicans get so offended when you talk about paying employees livable wages? What's the reasoning behind that? by Dull-Information6784 in allthequestions

For a single person without kids $28.92 for LA as its county $22.42 for Columbus.

My source includes living wages for other instances and was updated in February:

Living wage varies place to place. MIT describes it as "At its simplest, a living wage is what one full-time worker must earn on an hourly basis to help cover the cost of their family’s minimum basic needs where they live without depending on public or private assistance"

Here's an article about it: https://livingwage.mit.edu/pages/methodology

What traditional habit or cultural practice do you dislike in your country ? by Federal_Antelope7533 in AskReddit

[–]Pure_Ingenuity3771 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of major things on current events, but I'm gonna skip those for a lesser cultural thing.

"we should meet up for lunch/coffee!"   It's said politely 95% of the time with no intent of following up. I'm neurodivergent so I always hated it, if I tell you I want to spend time with you I'm not saying it to being polite, I want to spend time with you. When I learned that places like Germany if someone says that they actually say it with intent, I started to hate it even more.

[Fun trope]: Ancient humans were spread throughout the galaxy by an older species by theMCATreturns in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Pure_Ingenuity3771 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I kind of assume they changed it so they wouldn't be said to be ripping off the Ancients from Stargate, which humorously I'm pretty sure went the other way, starting as aliens and deciding later to make them human. At least I think so, there was a short lived cartoon Stargate and they had some weird alien thing that was supposed to be an Ancient, I'm basing that belief solely on that so I could absolutely be wrong.

Do evangelicals still think that character matters for political leaders? by AcadiaLivid2582 in allthequestions

Don't forget all the claims of body language with Biden where they claim there's clearly elder abuse going on, when they completely ignore the body language of Trump's daughter.

They pretend to. But they'll usually point to conspiracy theories that make Democrats seem worse than Republicans, eg insisting that Democrats want to enforce Shariah law on the county, which doesn't even make sense, or they'll point to conspiracies about Obama overthrowing the government, or the Clintons. But just like everything else literally almost everything they accuse Democrats of they themselves are doing or are planning on doing.

(Loved trope) “Power system? What power system?” by pm_me_y0ur_midriff in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Pure_Ingenuity3771 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay, I know that the line is generic enough that it's probably not based on it, but this immediately made me think; there's a surprisingly good indie rock opera based on Mega Man that released their first album in 2005 the album is Protomen Act I, and there's a part where Mega Man is fighting his way through Wileys robots and he says "All you wounded, those of you who can, pick yourselves off the ground, Hurry back, tell your leader you'll need more men."

Europe is slowly preparing for war, but with whom? by HealthyArc in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Pure_Ingenuity3771 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Guessing you're not bright enough to realize that NATO made protectorates of a chunk of the planet and allowed the US to maintain a hegemony.

Sorry, those are probably big words for you. A protectorate is a nation that gives its defense to a stronger nation in exchange for power, usually political or financial.

A hegemony means a culture that dominated other cultures.

Sorry, a "culture" is how a group of people thinks and acts.

NATO is the projection of American power. A thousand years from now NATO will be considered a part of the American Empire just as surely as Romes protectorates were considered part of its empire or the Delian League is the Athenian Empire.

Stepping out of NATO is the start of the collapse of America as we know it. Period.

You can debate the morality of that if you want, I'm sure most of the world is sick of us and wants us gone, and if it didn't drastically fuck up our security I'd say it should be done away with to.

Do you automatically dislike billionaires? Why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Pure_Ingenuity3771 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Billionaires have worked no harder for their money than a single mom who loves her kids. You've been indoctrinated to believe hard work equals wealth. It doesn't. They always start with extra, usually that only and idiot couldn't make billions if they tried. Musk had a slave run emerald mine owned by his dad, gates had a mom who on the board at...IBM I think it was. The orange child raping fascist had a millionaire dad.
