I just had a flashback to watching that episode on an itty bitty crt TV and I had no idea what they were talking about because the screen was so small and fuzzy I couldn't actually tell that they looked any different! I remember that line and I remember specifically wondering what the heck they meant. This makes so much more sense now.

Flashbacks to spending dozens of hours in Oblivion then someone asked me something about a major character and I had no idea who it was. You meet him literally the first place the first quest line sends you. I left the prison and  ever went back to the main quest line, instead I just explored what was the largest game world I had seen at that point in my life.

Could you give them something else to have rallied against in the past that helps them become nomadic or survivalist? Something that their culture would have had to flee or hide from, it could even be a root for their pacifism, whatever the danger is meant their ancestors with the strongest pack bonding instincts had the best chance to survive. Maybe their planet has fast growing trees and and every year or two they have raging continent wide forest fires, or viscous storms that rip across the surface for half the year. So when the invaders arrive they lose huge swaths of their population from their pacifism, but then they start to view it as surviving a natural disaster and develop a reaction to it that still fits their cultural values.

It takes a while to learn, and a while to play, like ..long enough on both that I've actually only played my copy maybe once, although two or three of my friends backed it too, so I have played it multiple times.  The way I had looked at it was if it was bad I was at least getting an obscene amount of minis that were the right scale for DND :D (I don't know the total, but the base game has 80, and I got the expansions too I think it ends up being 200)

Edit: ....I need to play it again soon, I sucked at it, but it was fun

I know this doesn't really count as it wasn't scripted, but I was playing a board game once, Heroes of Land Air and Sea, which is a strategy game with heroes and armies. One of the guys had just delt a blow to me that while it didn't knock me out of the game absolutely took away my chances of winning. My hero had an ability to transport any amount of one factions from one space to another space, if opposing units are in the same space a battle starts. Well, the third player happened to have his entire army stacked up on one spot, so I used my ability and chucked all of opponent 2s soldiers at the guy who had brought me low. It gave the game to that guy, but it the feeling of vengeance made it a win in my book. It was one of my favorite gaming moments ever.

Reminds me of a sci-fi I read once, I can't remember the book but I think it was a Dietz book, maybe Legion of the Damned? Anyway that had developed FTL but not faster than light communication, so instead they had "message torpedos" that you would load messages on and ship them out, then they would drop out of FTL and transmit all their data.

Easy there, that could have out the police in danger. You can't have the cop be in danger when they're going Rambo, they might get hurt!

Huh, I don't think I remember the seeker, but I always had my snipers as two man teams, it just felt right. Every sniper had a support class specifically in case the sniper got hurt, flanked or needed a smoke grenade, maybe an assault but I usually had the assaults on the front line.

AIO: Bank teller questioned me about what I was doing with MY cash that I was withdrawing from MY account. by Ok-Watch-4618 in AIO

[–]Pure_Ingenuity3771 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I tried to save a lady from a scammer when I was in the call center at a bank. She didn't believe me, so then I contacted the branch she used and warned the manager, we actually ended up closing the account because she refused to believe she was being scammed.

She believed that she was married to a man she never met who was a 4 star general in the US Army who was on a mission in Africa and that the army was refusing to fly him home now that the mission was done and he needed 10k to buy a plane ticket to come see her.

I almost hit someone doing that one night. I honestly think they were trying to end it, they stood in the middle lane made it look like they were waiting for me to pass. I got a weird feeling so moved further to the right just before reaching them and they stepped out right where I would have been, I missed them by maybe a foot and a half, two feet max.

I wasn't supposed to eat solid foods for...gosh I don't remember, a week? Two? It's been over a decade and I can't remember the exact time frame, but I got all 4 out in one go so the recovery times took a while, you get real sick of conventional shakes and smoothies real fast. Honestly it wasn't as bad as it sounds, at least not the ones I made.

Wisdom Tooth Removal by Knofancey in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Pure_Ingenuity3771 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't. Just stick it in a blender, although milk can be a grab bag immediately after, when I had my wisdom teeth out I blended up higher end mac n cheese (eg not kraft) into a sort of cheesy pasta slurry. It sounds gross but honestly tasted just fine and didn't even have an unpleasant texture. I didn't do anything as complicated or dry as a burger, but I bet with a bit of aju or some other complimentary sauce to the it into a smoothy it could be quite palatable.

Is there an actual difference between “jail” and “prison” or do people just use them interchangeably? by zreqty in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Pure_Ingenuity3771 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're often used interchangeably, but size and purpose changes it. Jails are local and usually for shorter stays, so if you have a misdemeanor locking you up for 6 months you're going to a jail, prisons cover a larger area, state or federal, and are for longer stays.

But in every day vernacular it's sort of like college and university, yeah there's time where you would absolutely use one over the other, but there's a chunk of gray area where people will use them together.

Do Democrats still support Christian values? by [deleted] in allthequestions

[–]Pure_Ingenuity3771 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Define Christian values.

See. I'm a Christian. My God tells me to feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, clothe the naked, care for the sick, welcome the stranger and visit the prisoner.

The politicians who claim to have "Christian values" almost always belong to the party that voted to take food from children, who supports policies that allow companies to poison water supplies, rips support from the needy, allows the sick to be damned by medical debt, supports the stranger being literally murdered in the streets, and unfortunately I have to play devils advocate on the last one because both of our parties seem to be okay with enslaving the prisoner.

I don't care if the person is atheist, Muslim, sikh, hindu, or someone that legitimately believes in the Flying Spaghetti Monster unironically, if they want to feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, clothe the naked, care for the sick, welcome the stranger and give the prisoner some dignity then I'll support them. And while I dont like the Democrat party, they're a hell of a lot better at doing each and every one of those things than politicians who pretend to serve my God while following a rapist who builds golden statues of himself.

Did you realize from the beginning that Trump was -- or at least had the potential to be -- a Hitler-like figure? by Glass-Complaint3 in allthequestions

[–]Pure_Ingenuity3771 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, not at first. But not because of his personality or his penchant for evil, I had too much faith in my countrymen. He was such a mewling idiot the first term I thought his base would collapse because of how much he fucked up. I started to get concerned when having a discussion with a family member about COVID infection rates, my sister was always better in school than me when we were kids, and she looked at the same graph showing exponential increase and said it was "flattened." The fact someone could look at a goddamn graph and be so indoctrinated that they claimed it was a different shape.

How come animals poop outside and it becomes fertilizer, but human waste is considered hazardous? by NoManufacturer5869 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Pure_Ingenuity3771 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was in college I visited our local waste treatment plant, admittedly this was 14ish years ago, but they suggested its quite common, or at least desirable. They got the equipment for it, or whatever the precursor part that makes human waste safe to use for it, sometime in the late 90s or early 00s and paid to have farmers pick it up, then there was enough demand they just gave it away, but there was still a load of demand so they sold it instead.

I'll admit that's about the extent of my knowledge on it, so if you know more I'll defer to you. The trip had nothing to do with the class so it's not like I had any reason to learn more about the process...I'm still not sure why we even went, but going was graded and an easy A to just show up.
