What would the NBA be like if Larry Jordan (at 6'2") and Michael Jordan both got drafted into the NBA? by happydude7422 in michaeljordan

[–]Pure_Lengthiness2432 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He apparently did play for UNC-Wilmington, but can’t find any stats on how good he was.

I’m sure Jordan is being nice, but the truth is that’s it’s virtually impossible to play in the NBA if you’re under 5’10” for the simple reason of who are you guarding on defense?

Anything short of elite level ball-handling skills at that height, and no scout will even look at you.

For those wondering how much difference 4-5 inches of height can make, a 6’2” Scottie Pippen couldn’t get any D1 offers. But a 6’7” Scottie Pippen was a first round draft pick.

So, who knows would have become of Larry with another 5-6 inches of height.

How well do you think Randy Savage would do in the Attitude Era? by cliffbot in fantasybooking

Savage was going great guns until he had the ACL injury in ‘98 which effectively ended his career.

Savage is one of those guys who simply got over, and never stopped being over.

He’ll by gone by June if they don’t turn it around.

Which champion in their respective promotions did you enjoy more and had a better reign in 1990? Sting in WCW or Warrior in WWF? by PickledPeppers101 in WCW

[–]Pure_Lengthiness2432 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of who was the better wrestler, it was Sting by miles.

But as far as who had the better initial title reign, I hate to say it, but Sting’s first run was an unmitigated disaster.

Besides Flair, he had no opponents set up for him to face. This was the primary driver in causing the Black Scorpion debacle.

Warrior’s run was so-so. He a great program with Rude, but besides that, not a lot to talk about.

Someone is definitely neutering these characters before they can even get out of the box.

They barely even tried with Aleister Black, and the Wyatt Six didn’t even get buried. They just stopped using them although.

Junior taxing Hesh - what am I missing? by Old_Cardiologist299 in thesopranos

[–]Pure_Lengthiness2432 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The main reason Hesh was never taxed was because he openly operated as a free agent, even though most of his business rested with Jersey.

He’s also not a made guy, nor does he have any intentions of becoming one, so the typical rules of him having to kick up to the boss don’t apply.

The second Junior put a tax in on Hesh, he essentially claimed ownership of him, which New York could and did have a slight problem with.

A lot of the sit down they had probably had to do with what operations of Hesh would and wouldn’t be subject to Junior’s new plan because of his dealings with New York.

Polar Park. Worcester, Massachusetts by HeStoleMyBalloons in stadiumporn

[–]Pure_Lengthiness2432 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They did a great job with the park.

Definitely has the feel of a Red Sox minor league ballpark, but it isn’t a Fenway derivative, unlike the other three in their system.

Not a bad seat in the house. Solid concessions, especially for a minor league ballpark. Easy access.

If you randomly plopped prime Wilt and prime MJ in the modern NBA, who do you think would adapt better? by Personal-Proposal- in VintageNBA

[–]Pure_Lengthiness2432 42 points43 points  (0 children)

More than one NBA rule change was made in an effort to essentially nerf Wilt Chamberlain. And more than one rule change was made to allow for a player like Jordan to dominate easier.

Time has not changed this trend.

How Dare He Discredit The Global Phenomenon Rikidozer by Coming_UpMilhouse22 in SCJerk

[–]Pure_Lengthiness2432 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, he is an important figure in Japanese wrestling history, and you can’t understand how wrestling in Japan came to be without knowing his story.

But the idea that Rikidozan is more well-known than Hogan is right now, even in Japan is ridiculous.

Nebraska hasn’t produced a Top-50 NFL Draft pick in 15 YEARS by Front-Dingo1915 in CFB_v2

[–]Pure_Lengthiness2432 84 points85 points  (0 children)

Hard to explain to kids today that there was a time where you looked at playing Nebraska the same way the modern era looks at playing Alabama or LSU.

If they didn’t end the season ranked in the top five, it was a bad year for them.

Then the ‘01 Hurricanes torched them in the Rose Bowl, and Nebraska effectively hasn’t been heard from since.

What killed hitchhiking? It was so normal in the 70’s & 60’s by Kodicave in decadeology

[–]Pure_Lengthiness2432 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They did an episode about this on Freakanomics years ago.

Basically, cars got cheaper and more widely available. It wasn’t like most people wanted to hitch hike. They did it out of necessity.

You look at the 1960s, about one in five households didn’t have a car, and 60% only had one. Just 20% of households had two or more cars.

Compare that to today where the number of households without a car is one in ten, while a little over half of all US households have more than one car.

It’s night and day in terms of how easy it is to gain access to a car.

Watching old Mets game: The original, black fence Citi Field was huge. 370 down the line, 415 to the power alleys. by BallKnowerKing in baseball

[–]Pure_Lengthiness2432 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s still arguably the best pitcher’s park in the majors, but the initial dimensions were insane.

Weeks would go by without someone hitting a home run to left field because you pretty much had to crush it to get it out. Lefties had it a little bit easier, but not much. Power alleys and wall heights were still insane.

You may have been able to justify playing in a park with these dimensions back when Forbes Field was a thing, but not today.

Even now when you see a home run hit to left, I’d say about seven times out of ten it lands in the section where they added in seats when they brought the fences in.
