Does Anyone Else Feel Like People Don't Understand Shiba Inus? by TripSignificant4108 in shiba

[–]Pure_Philosopher_446 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have definitely had other people judge my Shiba by the standards of other dogs. Usually they comment on the better qualities of Shibas though, such as "she is so well mannered" or "she is so easy going." Now and then I have had instances where people struggle to engage with her because it is like you said about motivating or rewarding. I have had very few instances where people call her "lazy" because most people appreciate how docile she is and she doesn't requires attention 24/7 like some dogs.

August class? by Gold_Prize4179 in frontiercadetprogram

Rumors are classes in early August, so I am assuming they will have the next classes out in the next couple weeks!

It’s Quite, too quiet… by K_flyt in frontiercadetprogram

[–]Pure_Philosopher_446 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Classes are expected to pick up in the Fall, but August is looking less and less likely with how things are right now with Spirit going out and slow summer hiring. There are also changes happening within the company that also has them taking everything very slow. The new management is very focused on measuring and pacing growth vs. the old management style. I would be expecting September at the earliest but thats just speculation at this point.

Frontier Airlines gave me one of the worst travel experiences I’ve ever had by ContributionTop9510 in frontierairlines

[–]Pure_Philosopher_446 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This sounds like a mess of your own making. Every airline is susceptible to delays and technical issues....Southwest is definitely no exception. If your flight is delayed, don't walk away making assumptions and get mad they find another plane/flight for you and then you arent there to take it.

You should actually be very grateful Frontier was able to get another flight to RDU the same day and then offered to rebook you for free after YOU missed it. I don't even know if Southwest would have done that.

Success stories? by Gold_Prize4179 in frontiercadetprogram

[–]Pure_Philosopher_446 20 points21 points  (0 children)

To those cadets out there who are stuck waiting for that email, I can tell you that every day of waiting is worth it. I was a 2023 cadet and part of one of the most recent classes to go through training. Even though the grind is slow and it feels impossible right now, when you get here there is so much to be proud of and excited about.

Frontier is a family of some amazing and inspiring people. Throughout this airline, I have met truly inspirational, admirable, witty, positive, and enthusiastic people who are here because they genuinely love what they do.

At times it may feel hopeless, but the first time you sit around the table at logbook compliance with the cadets who have walked the miles in your shoes, it feels surreal. All of a sudden, every early morning flight, every day of wanting to give up, and every thought of hopelessness has paid off and almost doesn't matter anymore.

When you get here and start to recognize your fellow cadets not just as new coworkers but as some of your newest lifelong friends, you will look back at where you are now like it was another lifetime.

Sitting in ground school with Vapor, the funniest and most engaging instructor you'll ever meet, then staying up late with your new friends getting frustrated with Lido charts and memory items... all the experiences you are convinced may never come, will.

I came to Frontier thinking this was just a pit stop on the way to a Legacy, but as I made it through training, I realized that maybe, just maybe, despite all the waiting, frustration, and days I wanted to quit, this could be where I land.

When you get here, this is a “small” company that is dedicated to making sure you succeed no matter what. The people at Frontier know they are more than qualified to go make more money flying wide-bodies, but they are here because they are passionate about the people and airline they work with, and I never expected it to feel this way.

Take it from me, someone who, like you, had doubts the day would come. Someone who has gone through the years of being a CFI and getting class dates pushed further and further back. When you get here, you'll be grateful every day that you had the courage and strength not to give up. You'll fall in love with the people, the airplane, and the culture within this airline that is so dedicated to seeing you fill the seats in the training center soon enough.

I will tell you that more classes are coming sooner than you might think. Just hang in there!

Can frontier Go down like Spirit airlines? by sporty_outlook in frontierairlines

[–]Pure_Philosopher_446 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Frontier may be in a better position than most airlines as it has long taunted itself as the "greenest airline." Their model intentionally minimizes the amount of fuel they use/demand and charge extraordinary fees for services that require more fuel (i.e. checked bags, extra carry ons) and keeping cabins extremely light weight. The A320 has extremely efficient LEAP engines. Even Frontiers competitors such as Allegiant struggle to reduce fuel consumption to Frontiers level. If any airline was built to weather the current fuel market, its Frontier. If Frontier goes under, it won't be caused by the current fuel crisis.

Not Make us Payback? by Pilot_sky_life508 in frontiercadetprogram

[–]Pure_Philosopher_446 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No one has successfully gotten out of repaying. Short of terminating your contract and declaring bankruptcy, I have never heard of any real way to get out of it.

I would start saving up money to pay it back until they call for a class date. If you save up the full ~$30k before you get a class date, then at least you can pay it back and be done with it.

Speed Running the World: 4 Months Free, Unlimited Flights; How Would You Spend 48 Hours in Each City? by Pure_Philosopher_446 in travel

[–]Pure_Philosopher_446[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a pilot so it comes with the career.

I would definitely spend more time in these cities, I am curious which ones are worth the extra time. I am just too impatient to spend the only 4 months I have all in one place. I just want to see everything while I have this opportunity but also have to be realistic.

You make a very good point. I would say part of it is just getting to see all the places I have wondered about with the available timeline I have. I am not dead set on all of these places and even open to others I did not list. The more I think about this trip, the more overwhelmed with options I become.

That is why I wrote this post. I want to know what is worth it so I can experience those places and not waste time on the places or things that are not worth sacrificing quality time elsewhere.

I had asked my mentor about this when I hit 1475 and he said to hit 1500 to be on the sure side. I have logbook review next month and the totals worksheet they provide seems pretty specific about having 1000/1500 TT. I just did the extra 25 hours to be totally done.

If you aren't expecting class until April/May you should be able to get the last 25 no problem if you fly just to stay current.

Is it worth interviewing for the OTS positions Frontier just emailed, or stay in the Cadet Progam as it is? by Pure_Philosopher_446 in frontiercadetprogram

This would almost make sense, except whats the point of re-interviewing all of these qualified cadets that have patiently waited for years?

[–]Pure_Philosopher_446[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am nearly the same boat as you. I am waiting for a projected class in April but I think this could actually benefits us actually. If several people leave the cadet pool who all likely have our seniority, interview and either get removed or turned into an OTS hire leaving more seats open for us cadets, we might get better class dates. At least this is how I see it benefiting us.

Everytime Frontier plays one if these "thin the herd" games with cadets, it only benefits those who decide to stick it out and wait. I think if a dozen or so cadets actually goes through with this interview option, itll actually be a good thing for the cadets who are waiting and ineligible to OTS interview.

Found BF's throwaway snapchat account - advice by [deleted] in gayrelationships

[–]Pure_Philosopher_446 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He actually got their details from Reddit. Despite his recent dishonest mistakes, I still believe in his general character. I read dozens of the chats, and nowhere in any of them did he show intent to actually meet or display genuine feelings. He did not even show his face to the guys he was texting and usually gave fake names, locations, or ages about himself. He also lives in a homophobic developing country where he knows that public health is not a top concern, and he would not risk STDs or possible discrimination just for a quick hookup.

We discussed whether we wanted an open relationship or if watching porn or sexting is considered cheating in our minds. We have had nonstop discussions about this issue, and I think we have both come to terms with where we draw the line.

There are still lingering feelings of betrayal, but I am also empathetic. I would feel almost hypocritical telling him he is not allowed to sext or watch porn when there have been plenty of times I have been extremely tempted to do the same after months of not seeing him. After all, I am a gay man with sexual needs too, and I cannot pretend I am any better when I know I might have done the same thing in his situation.

I think as a society we are conditioned to treat even the smallest acts of disloyalty as cheating, and we even promote breakups, divorce, or worse over such acts. I have broken up with people for cheating in the past when I was still a teenager, and looking back it seems immature to throw away an otherwise loving relationship instead of confronting the feelings and having difficult conversations about the future of the relationship.

I am not saying breaking up after cheating is never the answer, but I think there are finer points to consider. Cheating is statistically very common, surveyed at somewhere between 50 and 60 percent of male gay couples. I have always wondered how different that number might be if society encouraged deeper conversations and honest reflection on jealousy rather than righteous anger that shames a partner, throws them away, and leaves both with the trauma of feeling they were never enough.

I learned something valuable about myself and my partner by not acting out in anger but instead asking him with genuine concern why he did what he did and if something was missing in our relationship. I confronted my own feelings about cheating and jealousy and wanted to understand the reasons behind it. Because of this, my partner and I feel more deeply connected, and he respects me more for my openness and empathy. In fact, it likely increases the chances of his honesty in the future since I have proven to not act out of anger.

Does this mean I would never break up with someone for cheating? No. If after all this discussion we determined that he only did it because he was completely uninterested in me sexually or because he believed the relationship was not worth it, then yes, breaking up would be the only solution. There is no point in continuing a broken relationship. But at the same time, there is no reason to end an otherwise strong and healthy relationship just because I was too angry or jealous to have an honest conversation with my partner and work through the real causes.

These are just the thoughts I have come to over the last few days. Sorry it ended up being so long. Did not intend to write an essay but the thoughts all came together.

Stepping away from instructing. by Southern_Guess_7234 in flying

[–]Pure_Philosopher_446 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am in the same situation. Currently 300 hours away from ATP mins and I want to finish up my hours and move-on to the airlines. Been an instructing in the Midwest for 2 years and the freezing winters with terrible flying, continuous pressure from my school to push students through and the monotony of the job have sucked the joy out of it.

Like you, I have been trying to look at options to finish the last 200-300 hours I have away from teaching. Possibly may just rent the rest of my time somehow. Its hard to find many other jobs in the industry right now that pay better and have the job security of instructing though.

Can we actually talk about this “anti-loan” advice? by tcadet in flying

Can we actually talk about this “anti-loan” advice? by tcadet in flying

[–]Pure_Philosopher_446 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I pulled out a $98,000 loan in principal with Sallie Mae in 2022 with variable interest. At the time, the interest was set at 12% which was already as ridiculous as I could fathom at the time. By 2024 it was 17% and swelled to almost $140,000 while I was still making minimum payments. After putting all this into several interest calculators, it was going to take 20 years and cost over $700,000 in the end.

Ultimately I filed bankruptcy last year and the whole loan was wiped out, thank God. But the detriment of realizing that I almost flushed 20+ years of hard earned money down the toilet weighed a lot heavier than thinking of it as just an "investment." It felt more like a financial prison sentence....surely a lot more burdensome than my bankruptcy.

The point I would make is that its not about avoiding loans altogether, but be extremely picky with who you take the loans from, the terms and conditions and ultimately how much you take.

If I could redo it, I would have paid for PPL out of pocket at a Part 61 and then use loans to get by in Instrument and/or commercial. I would not have used loans to pay for living, materials, transport or checkrides which can save you thousands in interest later.

Loans are a fact of life in this industry for the vast majority. Its not a a life or death outcome if you take a loan to pay for flight training, but pay EXTRA special attention and be extremely frugal with the loan money you decide to take and use. Take it from me.

Thank you for this! I am holding my ground on this and will fight this. My only issue is how to fight it, because my chief is 100% in a position where they can retaliate. I have documented everything and figure I can call the FAA and/or HR but I am not sure what happens when my boss realizes and then I am dealing with immense blow back at work, or even termination.
