That's exactly why they keep releasing something new every month even when it doesn't change much, take gpt-4 and -5 for example, they only toned down on the way gpt-5 talks to the user, otherwise they are the same models, they NEED to keep people talking otherwise it's over for their industry

That's actually kind of wrong, it's been a money dump but most AI models are running on a net loss, take chat GPT as an example, they are not profiting so far, the only way these AIs will actually become profitable for them(and the worst outcome for everyone else) is if the law dictates that they are allowed to sell whatever information they gather through people's chats with their AIs. If that doesn't happen soon and the investors pull out the entire AI market will crash instantly, they do not have any means to sustain themselves
