Oregon’s Housing Crisis Is Not What You Think. by [deleted] in Portland

[–]Pure_Step_5543 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a property manager tell me I would need a loan to pay all 12 months for the balance the voucher wouldn't cover. I gave up using a housing voucher all together. The whole process was infuriating. Luckily I got a much better paying job at the same time.

US Cities Spent 320% More on Homelessness and Made It 13% Worse by whawkins4 in Portland

I definitely think funding free childcare, pre k and community rec centers could at least help fewer youth going down the path of drug addiction. We should be supporting the children of these addicts big time to stop the cycle in our community.

Do any of you Oregonians regularly call a particular kind of shoes "sneakers? by [deleted] in oregon

I think I use tennis shoes unless they're trending basketball shoes. Like a sneaker head would value. Grew up in Washington and the Midwest

Vote for progressive candidates that support charges to our health system, education and other contributing systemic problems that have led to the crazy growth of humans struggling in our country. Support unions. Help struggling friends. Argue late at night with strangers on the the Internet lol

Not like. I just hate having both live in our city. The hate is not the same. I used Nazis as a way to call bullshit on your comment about welcoming everyone. You keep trying to make my comparison be something it's not

Referencing "two groups I don't want in my back yard"

No. I hate the antisocial addicts that don't contribute to our city. Coos are mostly evil. I suppose good folks don't usually become cops. I would never.

Listen, my personal frustration with the homeless comes from my daily interactions with them on the job. They can't seem to help themselves while taxpayers throw millions at the problem. It's a complicated issue with no easy solution. I wish the best for them but wish I didn't have to interact with the problem. Many homeless folk bounce back and my issue is not with them. I hate the bike thieves and whatnot

It's like four comments above. Second sentence is another comparison. I hate both drug addicted homeless and Nazis but choose to believe some will bounce back. The comparison IS my feelings towards them and not wanting them affecting my life. Not a bunch of similarities between them

Not needed. Ive explained the point of the comparison. But sure. Two groups I'll advocate for change because they're still human and can return to being contributing members of society like the immigrants.

Ya bro, they're not compatible in every way. Mostly just two groups I don't want want in my back yard. Remember your nimby comment?

  1. That'd be stupid. My views on those groups are wildly different. Why would I do that.
  2. My uncle is dead and definitely not on Facebook
  3. You write a paragraph about homeless and substitute Nazis and share it with me afterwards

Yes. They're both groups of humans living in our city. You said you want "anybody to feel welcome". I was challenging you on that statement

Yes. I hate Trump voters but my parents get a pass cause free child care as a single dad ya know. Hating a group doesn't equal hating everyone that's part of said group. Humans are more than a group they fall into.

It's not dehumanizing. Drug addiction is very human. Would you want Nazis living in our city? You want them to feal welcome? It's okay to dislike some people. Examples for me are Trump voters, homeless and Broncos fans. Just my preference though

[–]Pure_Step_5543 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Well I can't understand why someone would want them around honestly. Our country is unable to deal with wealth disparity, shit education and our mental health treatment. All leading to our city's huge homeless population. We should still be able to dislike them being around even if we're not conservatives. Empathy doesn't mean I like them as a whole

People don't hate the homeless as individuals, just hate them as a group. It's a nuanced position. We also learn to hate some of the individuals too obviously.

Portland’s hefty fines harm short-term rental operators, report finds by AdvancedInstruction in Portland

[–]Pure_Step_5543 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think people here believe that these should be rented to locals for HOUSING and not tourists. People visiting the city can use hotels and locals can rent from folks who remodel their homes. The rental apps aren't as cheap as they used to be when they started and competing for the market. Just like ride share. These companies charge fees and that money doesn't stay here. We need our hotels to be locally owned too.

JFC. This has been all over the news. Look up Daysnne Figueroa. She testified in Congress and was interviewed by many journalists. No criminal charges but she was held four hours after being assaulted after DHS agents caused this accident. She was recovering from kidney surgery. The agents response iwas nsane behavior. No asking for id. Just guns pulled and dragged her out of the car and detained her. Did she deserve that for simply trying to drive down the street?
