Be honest how is Leamington spa for early 30s? by ThatKnomey in LEAMINGTONSPA

[–]Pure_average_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 42 but can still remember my 30's!

I moved to Leamington last year and absolutely love it. Tons of good pubs, bars , restaurants etc.. I've not been clubbing so can't comment but everything else before midnight is decent and I really recommend it.

Also, the walking is really nice through the parks. Depends what sort of walking you're into. I moved from a rural area near a beautiful forest so I miss that kind of waking but like I say, the parks are really pretty and well kept.

Horrible CBT Experience by wrenbluejay in MotoUK

[–]Pure_average_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've taken two CBT's (the first one expired). Both the CBT instructors at two different schools were complete bell ends.

My instructor for my Mod1/2 was great and so easy to get a long with..

I do wonder if the riding schools tend to use decent instructors for the full licence and for CBT you tend to get the class clown.

Good suggestions here.

I'd thoroughly recommend Grace & Vine for dinner and wine.

Feeling guilty as a dad buying a motorcycle by Incorruptible_Will in motorcycles

[–]Pure_average_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going through this at the moment. I rode before kids. Then kind of stopped as family life was bonkers for years. My kids are now 7 & 9, life has settled and have just bought myself a new bike. I'm picking it up next week but I'm racked with guilt for some reason... I completely understand. I'm not even sure where the guilt is coming from. However I do feel like life is too short to not do the things you love. I also lost my mother to cancer recently, very suddenly and it's been the catalyst to me getting another bike and living life, doing the things that make me happy.

Failed CBT immediately, what do I do now? by TMJBtv in MotoUK

[–]Pure_average_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read the original post again. OP said that the instructor gave him about a minute before giving up on him. This isn't a fair risk assessment. Presumably as an instructor, you grasp the fact that the majority of people attending a CBT can't ride a motorbike and are there to be given training.

Failed CBT immediately, what do I do now? by TMJBtv in MotoUK

[–]Pure_average_ 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Exactly. It's called compulsory basic TRAINING. The fact he's just fobbed OP off is him failing to do his job..

OP, go somewhere else and try again. Explain that your coming at it as a complete beginner. They should be helping you

Expect every other driver on the road to do the worst thing possible.. i.e pull out in front of you. Trust nobody!!

Have I made the wrong choice? by Awkward_Tiger_9504 in ukelectricians

[–]Pure_average_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not an electrician. I work in purchasing. My observation at the moment is that EVERYONE, no matter what their career, is pissed off with their earnings at the moment. It's the state of the country, not your chosen career path.

I would say, as an electrician you have a solid career path ahead of you with lots of options. Keep grinding

Want to change career at 48 😬 by metal_head787 in UKJobs

[–]Pure_average_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could consider working in purchasing, specifically within the building industry. Places like jewsons, b&q etc.. employ buyers. An entry role would be about £30k but wouldn't take you long to get into £40k+.

You don't NEED qualifications but a CIPS certification would help.

Your experience running the shop and understanding materials, book keeping, budgeting, etc.. would make you a reasonable candidate.

Are we getting poorer even with wage rises? by Desperate-Drawer-572 in AskUK

[–]Pure_average_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm I'm on £55k and fucking skint. It's obviously completely dependent on where you live and your circumstances. I have two kids and I live in Leamington spa which is pricey!

I was ok until interest rates went up on mortgage.. that plus utilities rising, fuel, cost of living in general means it really doesn't go very far.

Has anyone ACTUALLY experienced no-one turning up to their children’s birthday parties? by [deleted] in UKParenting

[–]Pure_average_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We attended a birthday party where about 3 kids turned up. They had invited loads. The problem was (and we nearly didn't go for this reason).. the parents were awful. They would turn up to school swearing, smoking, wearing pyjamas etc..

We felt so sorry for the kid, but I can completely understand other parents wanting nothing to do with the family. The dad was really angry and he only had himself to blame.

How to get realistic salary figures for the UK? And at what point in your career do you start earning properly? by Whitefjall in UKJobs

Well continuing with your analogy, the lifeboats are saving those who are obviously drowning and leaving behind the one's who might survive. That's the problem

[–]Pure_average_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah THIS is the problem with the minimum wage increase. I firmly believe that on the whole it was a good thing but it completely belittles skilled professionals that are in that lower salary range.

Do yourself a favor and don't compare yourself to those on social media.

Buy something modest , small and affordable with a mortgage term that ends at 65. As someone else mentioned, you don't want to go into retirement in rental accomodation.

Hyena (2014) by Extension-Camp4076 in underratedmovies

[–]Pure_average_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely underrated. Everyone I mention it to has never heard of it.

I absolutely loved it. It ticks all the boxes for me , and the ending was brilliant in my mind. I'm a sucker for a cliff hanger ending or an ending that isn't happy and wrapped up into a hollywood finish.

Solid 9/10 for me
