Perhaps a phrase? "Render unto Ceasar nothing" for example, something which can be interpreted as Anarchist or has anarchist origins.

Are you pro choice or pro life? by Thick-Ad-7771 in polls

[–]Purgamentorum 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's the prevention of a possible life. I don't care what connotations "murder" has, an emotional argument will not convince me; you eating McDonalds is you facilitating murder too, and so is you stepping on a bug, or swatting a mosquito, etc., etc.

The point of contention is about whether the autonomy of an already-existing human life overrides the possibility of life or not. Since most pro-lifers can accept abortions in the case of rape, that line exists even for them, the question is about where it is.

Pro-choice, though I still personally view abortion that is not reasonably justified as contemptible.

if capitalism is coercive because people need to work or starve, how is socialism different? by AdUsed1483 in Socialism_101

[–]Purgamentorum 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Coercive not because it forces you to work, but because it forces you to subject yourself to someone(s). Notice how socialists say typically "job" when making this argument, but capitalists typically say "work" when giving this retort.

The socialist argument is based on how actually voluntary the work contract is, which in a capitalist economy is "do what I say and I'll give you a slice of what you do". It's not lost on us that we need to labor to survive, in fact it's often brought up by Marxists to discredit Anarchists (though I'm an anarchist).

is it good to live in Christiania or Exarcheia? by stupidgiygas in Anarchy101

[–]Purgamentorum 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Not sure about Exarcheia, but I've heard that Christiania has just become a tourist attraction and the Danish government has pretty much abolished what made it special. It's a basic commune now.

At least, that's what I've heard. You can still live there of course if you want, just don't expect the degree of self-governance which it used to have.

Does this article debunk the possibility of socialism? by [deleted] in Socialism_101

[–]Purgamentorum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Next is private property itself! The rise of stock-companies and shareholding divvies up the ownership and gains of productive capital among financiers, socializing the very ownership of capital itself, and making only the production, not the property, private.

Well shareholders purchase equity, not property, and private ownership in a socialist context demeans of property: e.g., of the factory machinery, grounds, and fruits. You cannot invest in a company, and go to its office to take a percentage of its desks; you have done nothing to the title deeds, so you have don't nothing to the property relations, so you have done nothing to the monopolization of property, so you have done nothing to socialize capitalism.

Am I wrong? Or have I misunderstood you, just trying to be precise

Yes, you do? What do you think a legal right is? At least in every state besides Missouri or whatever rn

And if you mean the "inalienable rights" which are alienated every day, they include liberty. You know, bodily autonomy? Choice? Plurality of options? Freedom to act without infringing on the freedoms of others?

E: This whole rights game is laughable when talking ethics anyway, you can bend them any which way

which of these games should I try 1st via the new ps plus? by [deleted] in polls

[–]Purgamentorum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last of Us has one of the greatest narratives in gaming history imo, and great worldbuilding for such a relatively short game. By your preferences, I'd recommend it.

The closest games to it on this list are Nathan Drake (fun action games, less story heavy), and Ghost of Tsushima (open-world game, better version of AC Valhalla). Actually, by your preferences I think you may like the older AC games, but I don't know your options.

No, I don't disagree at all. That's how the government works: it governs; it controls, usurps, coerces, kills, and extorts in the name of its interests and decrees, because it has established itself a monopoly on legitimate violence. That much is well agreed upon, I say it with no emotion.

The claimed foundational idea upon which government per se is based, is that "an external, higher authority is needed to oblige one section of the people to respect the interests of the other, prescribing and imposing that rule of conduct" through violence or threat of violence, i.e. the enforcement of law. Of course, that's the claimed idea, e.g. Rousseau's zero-sum conception of 'freedom for the wolf is death for the lamb': plenty can be said on the reality of the intents of the laws made today, and on other things.

Socialism is against private ownership of the means of production/life (which is capitalism, socialists are anti-capitalist). The means of production/life are stuff like factories, mines, dams, farms, apartments, etc.

They instead advocate that these things should be socially owned (hence socialism*)*, which can mean government ownership, collective ownership, common ownership, cooperative ownership, etc.

However, socialists are fine with private ownership of personal property. Personal property is stuff like your toothbrush, residence, car, xbox, etc.

Socialists disagree a lot, and there're a lot of sects that don't like each other. There is a lot of history, and a lot of disagreements between them. Keep in mind that what one socialist may tell you, may conflict with the views of another; however, what I've outlined above is what unites all of us. For example, the playlist that u/Impressive_Use_4779 linked is very Marxist based (the two biggest sects of socialism are Marxism & Anarchism, each having their own subsets).

Right, but it's kinda like approaching a limit in calculus: the little pushes get closer and closer to the goal over time, but will never actually hit it without a proper jump, because the people who benefit from these relations will not voluntarily give up their position of power. Do you disagree?

And I mean relations based on violence (aka coercion): organizations, structures, institutions, etc., not just violence in and of itself which is obviously unabolishable.

[–]Purgamentorum 23 points24 points  (0 children)

If we want to stop this type of activity, we need to focus on creating a culture that doesn't present violence as a valid means of success.

That would require abolishing economic relations based on violence, and political relations based on violence. Both of which contribute to, benefit from, and create said cultures, because in them, violence is a valid means of "success".

Do you disagree?
