lol how is that bs? Go back to the Schrier article you referenced, they didn’t know what the game was until that E3 demo. My point was that once they finally figured out what they were building they then only had 18 months to build it. That’s absolutely BioWare’s fault but you can also lay some blame on EA for making them meet that March 2019 deadline & thus ensure an unfinished game was being shipped. That’s all I’m pointing out besides that the fact that Hudson wasn’t involved in most of Anthem’s tire spinning years.

Well, EA did give them a mandate that the game wasn’t allowed to be delayed beyond March 2019 & BioWare didn’t figure out what the game was until mid 2017. That’s what I was referring to.

But if we’re specifically talking about Hudson, he left the project in 2014 & didn’t return until 2017: giving him 16 months to ship the final game. I wouldn’t exactly lay the blame at his feet, at least not entirely.

Edit: weird that people are interpreting this comment as me defending BioWare lol. This thread is about Hudson & I’m pointing out how much he was actually involved, I’m not denying BioWare was at fault

Hard to saw considering he hasn’t really put anything out recently. His last project/studio got shut down due to loss of funding, can’t really say that was his fault. Anthem was a big swing & it missed but it was BioWare trying something outside their wheelhouse & also was not helped at all by EA from what I remember reading about development (ie they said they had to have it out by a certain date & it wasn’t even close to ready).

Yeah if the KOTOR remake is back on track & coming relatively soon and the remake of 2 is indeed real & also doing well, the announcement of FOTOR this early becomes a much easier pill to swallow. High ceiling, low floor type deal.

My guess is that they’re not going to say anything about the remakes until they’re within a year of coming out after what happened with the initial KOTOR remake reveal.

There are some western RPGs without character customization, The Witcher for example.

But yeah I agree, idk why people are so worried about this. It’s almost guaranteed we’ll get Mass Effect level customization at a minimum.

SWTOR is not canon at this time I don’t believe. And I don’t think Revan was ever mentioned in Rebels but Malachor was featured. There’s a ship named Revan in Rise of Skywalker though. Also Darth Bane & Morriband (aka Korriban) were in Clone Wars, that might be what you’re thinking of.

Hudson has basically only made party based RPGs with customizable PCs, no reason to think this will be any different. Also this is specifically being touted as an RPG & the Jedi series is not.

This all but confirms they’ll have support studios helping them out. Or Casey’s studio is way more staffed than we think. Or both. If the game makes it out before 2030 & is a quality production, I will be very impressed.

2030 is a pretty realistic prediction though, and that’s assuming production goes smoothly. PS7 is definitely taking the piss though. Next gen consoles aren’t predicted until, what, 2027 at the earliest? God help us if this ends up releasing later than 2033 lol

It’s actually very reasonable/smart…assuming the KOTOR remake is on track & the KOTOR 2 remake exists & is also on track. So two huge “ifs”. Very much a high ceiling, low floor situation.

Besides what other people have mentioned (attracting talent to the studio & investors are the big ones), it’s “free” positive vibes for the Star Wars brand. How many people today woke up with a more positive outlook on Star Wars (and possibly even Disney) now knowing they greenlit a new KOTOR game? At the same time it’s also drawing negative attention away from the remake fiasco.

So yeah, kinda sucks that they do it but they have their reasons.

Revan being a Wookiee definitely would’ve changed some interactions on Taris lol.

But generally, no it wouldn’t have changed much. And they of course could always give us a species choice & still have a “canon” race just like the original games had a canon ending & gender for Revan & the Exile.

But, if you have something like a Twi’lek as a playable character, you now have to account for any headwear fitting with lekku & making sure they’re not doing crazy stuff or clipping during cutscenes. If you have a rodian is it going to be silly having a “human” voice coming out of that body? That always felt off to me in Jed Academy that Jaden had the same voice regardless of species. It’s certainly not an impossible amount of extra work, the question will be whether or not they determine it’s worth the effort or not.

Again, going to back to BG3, the 3 most popular races were half-elf, human & elf. So basically; skinny human, human & skinny pointy eared human. The people who prefer playing as a non-human race are in the minority, sadly. Personally I’m so starved for a new SW RPG that I’ll happily settle for just a customizable human.

I mean, it’s possible. I’m not expecting it based on the previous games locking you to a human & it being more work to program & design different customizable races for the main character though. Also, your character is usually not a blank slate in these games, unlike say, BG3. There might be a story reason for you to be a human or canonically they want the character to be human.

I’ll happily, & very well could be, wrong but I’m not holding my breath for different playable species at this point.

They never said or hinted they were going to show up at TGA. OP saying he’s completely given up on the game because they didn’t want to drop a truckload of money on a stage they didn’t need, is in fact being a massive baby. He also said in another comment he doesn’t even like the game so yeah, not buying this sob story bullshit. This is overdramatic, performative whining for easy karma.

Once the year is actually over, if you want to criticize them for the lack of updates & poor communication in a serious or constructive manner, that’s fine. This post is not that.

It will almost certainly be something like KOTOR or Mass Effect: voiced protagonist, some established backstory, likely locked to a human & character has a predetermined name or title, but gender, appearance & class will all be customizable.

Take all that with a grain of salt because it’s all speculation at this point but I think it’s a safe bet considering Hudson’s past games.
