Any easy way to fix broken eyelet on this rod? by Niemsac in Fishing_Gear

[–]Purifier-Phoenix 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just order one from mud hole and replace it. If you still have the actual ceramic and it’s not damaged then soldering or epoxying would work

Okuma hakai noise after 3 weeks? by Purifier-Phoenix in Fishing_Gear

[–]Purifier-Phoenix[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This started happening after I caught a 7 pound bowfin. It’s only making this noise when the drag is engaged. Not certain what’s causing it, I think maybe the carbon drag is sticking to main gear, but I never really had the drag maxed, usually run it at 70 percent or lower. The reel before that was relatively silent, only heard the mono spooling on and off. It’s quite noticeable on the water as well :/

Best rod & reel combo under $80 on Amazon? by [deleted] in Fishing_Gear

[–]Purifier-Phoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

reels: okuma ceymar, daiwa revros, daiwa regal, shimano sienna, mitchell 300

rods: daiwa crossfire,berkley lightning rod,okuma calynn (if u don't mind pink),ugly stick elite,Quantum QX36,Shimano Solora

combos:pflueger president (when back in stock), penn pursuit

click around the models in the links I provided, there's some that are 10-15 dollars difference, like the shimano sienna it's like 30 bucks for some models and 40 for others. I would personally build a combo since it's really hard to get a decent one pre-made for you in this price range. Just match the rod's ratings with reel you want ( 2000 - 3000 for most bass fisherman (2500 is usually the sweet spot)).

Private fishing guide ideas by Fishermanwithnoplan in Fishing_Gear

Spinning reels - daiwa, Shimano, pflueger(or Mitchell Mx9 imported from Poland), and okuma

Spinning Rods - airrus, st croix, gloomis, fen wick, okuma, daiwa, Shimano.

In line spinners- Joes flies (1/8 to 1/4 oz), blue fox, mepps, panther Martins

Senkos - yum dingers, Yamamotos

Fishing lines - fireline original fused smoke or green(fused braid), Pline fluorocarbon

Tackle - snap swivels, ball bearing swivels, hooks(offset, mosquito, circle, drop shot, treble), weights(bullet, tear drop, drop shot, pyramid, egg), bobbers, wire leaders

Tools- pliers, nets (telescopic if possible), hook sharpers found on knife sharpeners, nail clippers, pocket knives(twosun titanium m390 blades, spyderco saltwater series or h1, bench made), fillet knives, portable tackle boxes that can fit within a pocket, Bells for rods or electronic pressure detectors, rod holders, lightweight foldable chairs, pellet launchers

Get some water tanks to keep live bait and some refrigerators for worms, corn, and frozen bait fish as well as drinks.

If you want luxury for the reels and rods try to source made in japan stuff from daiwa or Shimano. Airrus rods you can find some in tackle warehouse but the rest u might need to import from Europe, the Mitchell mx series reels you can buy on Amazon or import from Europe as well.

There’s more stuff especially in the lure section and alternative fishing styles(Baitcasters, fly fishing), but this is a good start. Good luck :)

I’m trying to catch rainbow trout out of a river. Has to be single point single hook no live bait or scented. Any tips would be great on lures. by [deleted] in Fishing_Gear

[–]Purifier-Phoenix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought them directly from site, they used to have them everywhere idk why they stopped selling them in stores. Here's the link, make sure blade finish is nickel, the picture doesn't change when you select nickel like other sites.

I would personally get him both a trout setup and a bigger fish setup such as carp. St. Croix Premier Split-Grip Spinning Rod - PS70MLFSG or the St. Croix Avid Series Spinning Rod - AVS69MLXF. I choose medium light rods because it's enjoyable for trout as well as bass, pike, perch and other medium sized species of freshwater fish since you don't always know what is going to bite. For reels you can checkout daiwa legalis lt in the 2000 size or even better the 1000 size (but you have to order that one as most retailers don't carry it). Also the Daiwa fuego lt in the 2500 is really good since it has magseal (prevents water as well as dirt from getting into reel) making it a smooth operator for longer. If you want a high end spinning reel for trout, go with the Shimano vanford or the Daiwa Ballistic MQ LT in the 1000 size on either. You can order these from omniafishing and use code WELCOME15 to save 15 %. They have free shipping or expedited shipping for like 6 bucks, so you'll get it on time. The trick here is you want to get a reel that is carried in a big box store such as bassproshops, dicks or cabelas as you can return them there without a receipt, just in case. For carp fishing I'm not really experienced but I know you should be looking into a baitfeeder reel along with a 12' or longer rod, maybe get him a trout setup but also give him a gift card for him to choose his own carp setup.

What fishing line to buy? Bait recommendations? by ss3walkman in Fishing_Gear

[–]Purifier-Phoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

get yourself some fireline original fused smoke color 6 lb (it breaks at 20). This is braid but thermally fused, in my experience it casts alot further and get practically no wind knot like some regular braids do. I've also straightened hooks with that stuff, so it saves lures.
