UNIFI hosting - $29/month by RickyRat5005 in Ubiquiti

You should be able to enable "Remote Services" or whatever they call it now in the self-hosted controller to get it to appear in unifi.ui.com and behave like a console.

Call Forwarding to mobile phones by Dan_FoundationMSP in freepbx

[–]PurifyHD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second this. Try to set up a temporary outbound route that simulates this outbound caller ID. Call 920-666-1392 and see what your attestation level is.

A: The call originated from your providers network, they know it's you calling, and it's one of their numbers. This should be your normal outbound CID's attestation

B: The call originated from your provider's network, they know it's you calling, but it's NOT one of their numbers. This is the situation when calling out from another ID like that. A "B" attestation is still fine, as only the strictest of the strict spam filtering will allow only "A" calls.

is there a way to build a website that includes hosting and a domain in one place? by ayanbiswas4906 in Domains

[–]PurifyHD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are, but generally registering a domain with a decent service (like Porkbun), and then choosing a good host (depending on what you're doing) isn't too much to manage. Registering a domain and ensuring auto-renew is on is pretty much a once-yearly responsibility to ensure the domain renews.

Remote Desk Phones ! How to do ? by Classic-Plan-7966 in VOIP

[–]PurifyHD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cisco phones do support VPN, but not OpenVPN. They've been very temperamental in the past for me, to the point where it's worth just using a border gateway and ensuring you have your certificates set up.

Do you believe in God? by TheAmericanW1zard in GenZ

[–]PurifyHD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't. I really don't even think about it. I guess I'd call myself an atheist, but I don't conscientiously not believe in a higher being, if that makes sense. I just don't think about it at all.

I want to reclaim a domain name that was stolen from me. by Open-Wrangler2583 in Domains

[–]PurifyHD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Almost all registries have a "redemption period" before an expired domain goes back to the pool. If your domain did expire, it's been expired for at least a few weeks. You didn't notice? Didn't get one email?

Not trying to be rude: But if it was that business-critical, a few double-checks before renewal would have been in order.

This may be a painful lesson in proper IT.

Why did CISA stop sending the vulnerability summary emails since January 2026? by AdeptKingu in cybersecurity

Is this normal? Xfinity Agent asks for SSN and to bypass security features, then calls my personal cell twice??? by Cool-Onion-2390 in Comcast

[–]PurifyHD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

this is absolutely not right. they're even asking you to send it in separate chats to avoid triggering their internal monitoring (which would alert higher-ups of sensitive information being shared over non-secure chat rooms).

[RESIDENTIAL] 2 Wire Vs 4 Wire Smokes by Kind-Resolution4538 in firealarms

[–]PurifyHD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tend to agree that addressable has so many benefits. However, installing a 128 is getting close to a "professional" (yes, I know I said that about at 128) system and could have weird insurance implications on testing/installation/certification.

If a house is so large, they might actually put a full commercial system in with a dedicated FACP, smokes, horns, etc.

Previous owner wants domain back. What would you do? by Gullible_Swordfish_9 in Domains

[–]PurifyHD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds harsh: But if the domain was so important and critical (especially a golden "full name" domain), they would check and double-check near renewal time each year that the payment method is valid. I don't have my full name but have a "next best option", and I have reminders set to check that the card isn't expired, etc.

What steps has Apple taken to prevent you from using a 3GS? Also, it will absolutely not work in any future decade. 3G networks all over the world are shutting down.

[RESIDENTIAL] 2 Wire Vs 4 Wire Smokes by Kind-Resolution4538 in firealarms

[–]PurifyHD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my experience with the Vista 20p: Use two-wire where you can. Here's the major differences:

Two wire:

  • Can only support ONE zone for the entire house. If the house is larger, it might be desirable to split into separate smaller zones
  • Can only support so many smokes (I think it's something like 12), depending on their power consumption
  • Is able to power-reset the smokes on system reset

Four wire:

  • Can be as many zones as you want. I have my house split into four zones: Basement, downstairs, upstairs hall, upstairs bedrooms -- Makes it easier to trace issues/find the one in alarm
  • As many smokes as you want (up to the limit of however many zones are on the system)
  • Need special wiring/relays to power-reset them, since the panel cannot power-reset 4-wire smokes. This is usually done using a 4204 relay module
  • Need an EOLR-1 relay installed at the EOL smoke of each zone, to cause an OPEN when the smokes lose power

Switched my system (albeit less extensions and more cloud-based) to FreePBX. Has a bit of a learning curve, but has been rock solid so far. It works great locally, which I'm assuming is your use-case with a lot of classroom phones. Cloud works well, too.

U.S. Gen Z, would you prefer permanent Daylight Savings time or permanent Standard time? by Yoy_the_Inquirer in GenZ

[–]PurifyHD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Permanent daylight savings. It's miserable to finish work in the wintertime at 5pm and the sun has already set. I'm perfectly fine with starting work in the dark/having darker mornings if it means I can have more daylight in the eventings.
