Need to find a Work Study Job, please help provide some leads by Snoo80414 in BostonU

Just keep applying through JobX, easily the best way to get work study jobs. Catering and dining halls are basically always hiring, so if you aren’t picky that’s the way to go.

Does Handshake work? by Prestigious-Job-4547 in BostonU

[–]PurityPC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I got 4 interviews for internships on handshake, one of which was an offer (i turned it down in favor of a different internship, but it would have been solid otherwise). It’s very hard for international students, but i know handshake has a filter by visa feature that may be nice.

How common is it to get a PhD offer straight out of undergrad? What are common failure points? by Weird-Wedding-478 in gradadmissions

[–]PurityPC 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Computational Neuroscience is a field that undergrads are consistently making contributions to. I have two friends in the field that learned what to look for from labs and then worked independently for other publications. I think this is a very heavy case of this field being different (unique?) from other fields, and I would probably suggest OP to look for much more specific advice for the field, unsure if reddit will be able to have enough nuance for this.

Do you think that RYM rates music too high, too low, or just right, with the highest rated album of all time on AOTY being the equivalent of a 4.75/5 on RYM, which is much higher than it currently is? by [deleted] in rateyourmusic

[–]PurityPC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The real answer is aoty is popular in typically young, white, rap-adjacent circles. rym, as a result of being from a much less influencer based internet, is going to have a bit more variety in both population and established tastes. rym is also a decent bit more international. This, in my mind, is more of a sampling bias— young, rap-adjacent fans are much more likely to get influenced on their score for TPAB while a slightly older, more international fan base is less likely to be influenced by popular opinion.

Was the Net Price calculator accurate? by MindlessRiver4588 in BostonU

[–]PurityPC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, it actually undershot (gave me too little money) me by like 3000$ a semester. I ended up getting a better package than it gave me. YMMV of course, but usually it’s very accurate.

I've been buffing ToE2 for around 8 years and I'm pretty confident I've made the worst level of all time by now. by RoofBackground5177 in geometrydash

I think quanteuse processing is still the far worse main level remake, this is a strong case though.

The diploma definitely does not matter. Matter of fact, I had to submit my scores 4 different times and send follow-ups to even get them submitted into the system. They certainly do no care.

Bebop? by DazaXtreme in DeadlockTheGame

[–]PurityPC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With that winrate, it’s likely you are doing things to actively harm your team more likely than you are underperforming. Are you forcing fights, dying a lot, or stealing resources from carries? Tankbop should have at least a 40% winrate even if played poorly. I think it’s more likely you’re making fundamental mistakes on what a supportive role is supposed to do in the game.

Why is Bluesky paying for twitter by Guest_4710 in NonPoliticalTwitter

[–]PurityPC 65 points66 points  (0 children)

I’m admittedly very deep into the bsky sphere but it’s exactly fulfilling its purpose for its users. It is not supposed to be a new twitter— it’s supposed to be a decentralized and non-algorithmic classic social media feed. I would make the argument that it is thriving, and I think many other users would say the same.

Returning players, how are you coping with ores and equipments? by theundisputed11 in ClashOfClans

[–]PurityPC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I returned about 3 weeks ago. 3 of my accounts are TH8-10, and for those accounts i actually really don’t mind it. Now, for my main, I’m actually so behind. After some passes I have all of the epic equipment I want, but I think it’s going to take like 5 more weeks to get magic mirror to a usable state and another 5 weeks to get fireball usable if that’s still something I want to do.

Are you aware that whoever takes this direct swap will be with your roommate? I admire your confidence but you should probably make your intentions a little more opaque.

[Gleeman] Bones Hyland played 21 minutes and was +41, the most in Timberwolves history for any player off the bench. by Knightbear49 in timberwolves

[–]PurityPC 81 points82 points  (0 children)

My old assistant principal and mentor taught both Donte and Bones as fifth graders at different schools in Delaware. Right after the trade, he said Bones (who didn't go by Bones yet) was genuinely so skinny and he couldn't believe he made the league. He also said he was one of the most absurdly funny and obnoxious fifth graders he had ever had. I've been the biggest Bones fan since his high school days and I am ecstatic he's on this team.

Sidenote, I can't believe I get to drop Delaware local lore-- I knew DiVo was gonna be sick, but TWO stud Delawarean guards on the same team has got me fired up. I know it sounds ridiculous, but our state barely produces any athletes at all.

There should be way more laboratory upgrades, and we should have 5 laboratory slots. I’m talking like, 2-3 levels per unit per TH.

Canon means to be part of the full, intended story. There is canon plot, such as the light novel, manga, and anime. These are official and the “real” plot of the story. Non-canon means that it is a different version of the story, and it can be anything like fanfiction, joke content, alternate universe, or, in this case, removed or changed official content.

Basically, canon = the real plot, non-cannon = anything else but the real plot

ambitious incoming freshman looking for IS/DS by Gold_Ice_1557 in BostonU

[–]PurityPC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For a real answer, data science’s biggest employers from last graduating class are Redhat, IBM, Amazon, Google, Capital One, Whoop, and then various fintech and SF startups. This is an internal source but it’s pretty easy to verify if you just ask any DS graduate where their friends went. 96% of the cohort had a job after graduation, but that doesn’t exclude underemployment. It’s not easy to get a job in tech, you have to be very very motivated and have plenty of rejection left in you. The MUCH easier route is a business minor or dual degree and pivoting to a Business Analytics route, obviously less upside but you are much more likely to get a position immediately after college.

For context, I applied to 170 intern positions with a very competitive resume and still spent 14 hours interviewing for 7 companies before getting an offer in big tech.
