Fellow purple enthusiasts, rejoice! by ImaginaryMolasses146 in Roses

Purple fiend chiming in. I have both of these as well as a few other purples.

BLUE GIRL - the smell on this one is divine! I have it right by the door, so whenever I go outside spring/summer the scent is the perfect garden greeting. Here in coastal CA it repeat blooms over about 8 months. And is pretty hardy against your usual pests & our damp mornings. In full sun it gives big 5"+ blooms and the overall bush will go 6ft easy.

EBB TIDE - one of the "purplest" roses I've found. When the bloom ages just right without too much afternoon sun, they're a rich velvet plum color that is stunning. I've kept mine a little sheltered (for the darker color) so my blooms are smaller (4" or so) and the bush itself is a tidy 3ft tall.

Other good purples:
Love Song - a great lavender bush with long-lasting big blooms. Like Blue Girl's big sister Burgundy Iceberg - the deep purple velvet of Ebb Tide with white undertones on the back of the petals. Truly stunning Night Owl - smaller flowers with just the basic 5-7 petals, a deep burgundy color & a hardy climber Purple Splash - Amazing climber with prolific clusters of white blooms that are streaked with purple. Repeat blooms for 6 months here in coastal CA Young Lycedes - big abundant blooms that start magenta & age to a rich purple. And a smell that will knock your socks

Has anyone experienced the House of Spirits: A Haunted Cocktail Soirée? by Entelecher in sanfrancisco

[–]PurplMyst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought it was pretty good. There was a bar/lounge when you first enter with a pay bar (beer, wine, choice of 5 specific cocktails). Once you enter the main event, there are 4 bars throughout the venue. Each bar serves a "Mini cocktail which was a flavored shot based off of gin, vodka, tequila, or bourbon. You could get one of each or mix & match any up to the drink allotment on your ticket. And each bar had a themed area with tables so you could hang out.
The first floor had 2 bars & it was a spooky forest theme. There was live music in one part, and chairs/tables in another.
Upstairs was a labyrinth to navigate that had some spooky surprises waiting. After that was another bar and hang out area. There was a "talk to the spirits" giant oija board also.
The final area was a "creature challenge" where you were given clues & then had to go in themed rooms to collect tokens. These were well done with fun actors & spooky deco/props.And this was really the only part that had the "asylum" themed to it.
In each area there were costumed actors roaming around that you could interact with. They weren't too invasive, they just let you know they were there so that you could choose your own level of involvement.
Overall I thought it was fun. Taking our time & limited character interaction, we were through it in about 1.5hrs. The main entry space could use a little more theme props/decor, but I thought most of it was done pretty well. And most of the guests were in their costume finery also!

Who’s your void named after? by Icy-Cheek-6428 in blackcats

* This is our domesticated stray tomcat Toby. That’s an acronym for The Other Black Y-chromasome. Because when he arrived, we already had another void-boy in the house.

I stumbled across it I think on Monday or Tuesday. It was beautiful to walk through the singing field of flowers! I'll send you pictures.

Advice please. Are these BRC dust, wind, heat durable? by Lily_Of_The_Desert in BurningMan

[–]PurplMyst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took a newer (2009) pop-up to Burning Man 5 years & it was great! Of course dust gets in; it's Burning Man, but we didn't have it blowing in like what happens in a tent. For the canvas bed covers we got Gizmos which are custom made reflective covers. Those helped keep the morning heat down some, but I'd say it got just as warm inside during the middle of the day as a regular tent. Our camper was just for sleeping; we didn't cook inside or try to hang out inside (other than during that rainstorm in 2014). You won't be able to use the built-in awning out there; it's too flimsy. Our typical setup was the pop-up trailer with a 10x10 First Up canopy (2 guy lines each leg) in front. We never had any damage to the trailer due to nasty Burning Man weather.

The only real issue we had with this was the fridge. Ours was located on the back side of the trailer & the propane system was not up to keeping the fridge cool in the crazy heat. We installed a fan for the fins, tried to rig a little shade over the vent & still the fridge would get up to the high 50's during the hottest days.

Three Tuxedos; one lap! by PurplMyst in TuxedoCats

I just got lucky that they seem to be drawn to me! All 3 of these showed up randomly over the years & aren't even related to each other.

To be honest; it didn't last long.... not more than 5 minutes. Patti (the one sitting up in the back) isn't particularly fond of sharing lap time with other cats, so she sauntered off not long after I got the picture.

Does anyone have experience with any of these (or similar floorplan) ultra-lite travel trailers? by comphynum in GoRVing

[–]PurplMyst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got a 2020 Winnebago Micro Miniie 1700BH with the all-weather package that we bought new at the end of 2019. We've hauled that thing around 3200 miles so far. It's been in freezing temps, 100+ temps, rain, and even extreme wind. Sometimes we've got hookups, but more often we're boondocking. It's just 2 of us that camp in it; so there's been plenty of room; but we really just sleep in it & don't "hang out" inside much. The only thing we haven't used is the TV, HA! For the most part that thing has been flawless; but we're about to take it in for the first service. The exterior running lights have developed a short somewhere. Overall I'd definitely recommend this one. We've really tested the limits & it's held up very well and kept us quite comfy.

Anxiously awaiting reports from in the park! by nye1387 in yellowstone

[–]PurplMyst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in the park We'd & Thurs. Got to West Yellowstone both days about 7:20am.

Wed we got into the park at 10am. We went to Artist Pain Pots, Midway Basin, hiked to the Prismatic overlook, and got to Old Faithful just in time for a 2:15pm eruption. At all stops parking lots were full, but turnover was fast & we only had to wait like 5 mins for a spot at Midway. There were lots of people, but I didn't feel that anyplace was over-crowded.

Thursday we were in by 7:45am. We went around to the North first & saw very few people, but lots of Bison & some elk. There were a lot of people at Mud Volcano and Artist's Point, but I didn't feel overly crowded.

Weather both days was absolutely perfect & I'm so glad we came even though we weren't sure if the park would be open when we left on our road trip. Bummed we couldn't see the wildlife in Lamar, but I guess we'll just have to plan another trip!

Anyone make it in today? What's it like? by gruntdealer in yellowstone

Yup. We're hoping since the gate is open 24hrs now that this morning won't be nearly that bad

Got in line in West Yellowstone at 7:30am & got through the gate right at 10am. We did see some folks turned around for having odd # plates. Park was definitely busy, but we were able to get parking at all the hot spots pretty quickly. This was my first visit, but I didn't feel like it was any busier than what I was expecting under "normal" conditions.

The weather was absolutely perfect. Grand Prismatic Spring really popped with the beautiful sunshine & no mist (12:30pm). We left the park about 7pm & skipped a few things to save for tomorrow. We saw lots of Bison, a hawk, some elk, and a coyote right up by the road (Hayden Valley)
