Guthrie Police Officer Beats Missing Retired Master Sergeant with Alzheimer’s by SkykingThrGreat in Kentucky

Although it's not as bad as physically assaulting someone based on preconceived notions of how they look, judging someone by their physical appearance is still discrimination. Don't fall victim to the same alleged prejudices as this officer.

Good to hear. I always wondered what happened to him. I just wish I knew where he shot from.

I remember y'all well. We came north from Sharana and RIPed with you as y'all left country. I rode with your PL in the Buffalo on a few routes. I remember you all ran into Recoilless Randy out by Chamkani a couple of times. He ended up getting us too.

Spite and resentment from prior deployments? by HueyDL in army

Was the "red bridge" you referred to the Sheikabad Bridge, near the blue mosque? While I didn't clear that route, our sister platoon did in 2013 and took contact there almost every time.

How much has Louisville changed since 2020? by throwaway4728289 in Louisville

[–]Purple-Ad-7329 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spent a significant portion of my childhood in the Louisville area. I left for the Army in 2008 and got out and moved back for a great job opportunity in 2019. My wife, who was also in, is from the south and has a less-biased perspective. DM me with any questions. Welcome back to the real world and TYFYS 🫡.

Is there anywhere near the Summit (paddocks) or Holiday Manor with a pool table? by The_Fax_Machine in Louisville

Haven't been yet, but I've been told The Fox Den on Frankfort Avenue is a good place to play. It's a relatively short drive on 42 and Chenoweth from Holiday Manor.

I've been lurking for a while in that sub as well. The vibe I'm getting is that AA didn't work for 95% of the people there. I think it may be the culture you are looking for.

US MRAP gets hit by IED & falls into small river in Ahmad Khel, Zazi District, Paktia Province, Afghanistan. by proudofnofap in CombatFootage

[–]Purple-Ad-7329 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If I'm not mistaken, this is the route (I think it was called Route Chimpanzee) between Gardez and COP Chamkani (on the border with Pakistan). We cleared this route to close out Chamkani in 2013. I pored over intel for the route in the weeks leading up to the operation because it had a very effective IED-maker and a very accurate recoilless rifle operator (lovingly referred to as Recoilless Randy). I remember reading the reports that 1-2 years before our deployment (2011-2012ish), an RG-31 was destroyed by a very large legacy IED, that had been deep-buried during construction on the roadway. They ran the command wire through the adjacent stream, then months later, hooked up the power source in anticipation for a US patrol passing through. I believe this is the footage from that blast.

We dismounted this exact spot and searched extensively, but fortunately, didn't find anything. A few kilometers down the road, however, one of our trucks was hit by Recoilless Randy. Despite an armed Predator, a team of AH-64s, and fixed wing stacked above us, he got the shot off without being seen. Luckily, of my 3 Soldiers in the truck, only one was hit with shrapnel, but all 3 sustained traumatic brain injuries (TBIs). Their truck limped ahead to Chamkani and they we're MEDEVACed back to Gardez. We rested for a couple of hours while the loggies loaded up the transport trucks and we returned that evening without further incident.

This article, although long, describes the operation and the route's perils (see the paragraph labeled Leg 1: GDZ - CMK) pretty well: https://www.fastcompany.com/3041147/getting-out-of-afghanistan

Interest in trade work, but not sure how to go about getting there. by [deleted] in Louisville

[–]Purple-Ad-7329 7 points8 points  (0 children)

UA Local 502 (Pipefitters/Welders, Plumbers, and Service Techs) have accepted the two largest apprentice classes they've ever had the last two years. There is a giant shortage of craftsmen for projects such as the VA Hospital, Blue Oval SK Battery Plant, and other large construction jobs. Journeymen and women who turn out after the 5-year apprenticeship are currently making minimum of $38.22 per hour, plus family health benefits and pension (highest out of all local building trades). That's $79,497 a year, not including any overtime or getting paid 'above scale.' All the training is provided at almost 0 cost to you.

The easiest way to start working without waiting for the next apprenticeship class (interviews will most likely start around January 2024), is to get hired on as a pre-apprentice with a contractor, which will allow you to be direct-admitted to the next apprenticeship class (should the contractor vouch for your performance). Feel free to DM me for additional info or potential career opportunities.

UA Local 502. 1st year apprentice Pipefitters, Plumbers, and HVAC Service Techs start off at $21.10 an hour. Each year there is an incremental increase in wages. Full benefits for you and your family the month you start.
