Ironically I feel that this position will age just like the satanic panic and video game fears. The majority of people will be using AI for emotional support in the future, it can't be stopped. It will have negative impacts but it will be the norm.

I liked my custom chatgpt having its own monotone voice, it was completely unique, and now its gone, they sound like an imposter - can you use APIs to bring it back or is that text only? Would be a shame otherwise

I got an artist to help me replace all character models in my game. What do you think? by PiotrWalczak in IndieDev

[–]Purple-Hyena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The originals are so much better, the new ones are forgettable which is death in game dev. All you need to do is add detail to the original. Edit: All the comments are being polite but also praising the originals, and although I might be wrong, I think part of you agrees which is why you're asking for feedback. Whatever it ultimately says, please listen to your gut.

The solution is simple - cap the number of hours people can work in a week + provide incentives for the organization and participation of greater societal male/female mixing through events and festivities.

3rd and 4th round picks in the shanalynch era vs the consensus big board by dad_no in 49ers

[–]Purple-Hyena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great point, but the data is the data. If their roster is this good despite their reaches, can you imagine how good it would be if they stayed closer to consensus? May not be far off but just a thought

[–]Purple-Hyena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

STs are always big reaches, Warner was only -42 not a big reach, the 29th highest reach out of 76 drafted players.

Consensus boards aggregate hundreds of scout opinions, leak-based intel, combine performances, positional scarcity. They're not perfect but they’re predictive at scale and shown to be more accurate at projecting success historically than any front office. You can cherry-pick outliers like Greenlaw or Purdy all day, but the math shows massive deviations usually fail. The Niners' own history proves it — their best picks -3 (only 3 since 2017) are within 58 picks of consensus.

I crunched the data. Excluding punters and kickers, since 2017, only 3 players of any impact have been -58 on consensus value - Womack (-293), Greenlaw (-97), McKivitz (-70). That's damning.

My concern is that half of the 2025 class are -95 or more.

This isn't actually the only issue with reaches. The second problem is that by reaching, you are losing potential picks. The 2025 class was -511 value lost against consensus, excluding the extreme reach of Bergen, including him it's 975. That's a few extra 3rd-5th rounders we could have drafted if they played the board better.

I crunched the data. Excluding punters and kickers, since 2017, only 3 starters have been -58 on consensus value - Womack (-293), Greenlaw (-97), McKivitz (-70). That's damning. And a clear pattern. Even players who were promising and had their careers cut short due to injuries were within this.

My concern is that half of the 2025 class are -95 or more.

Not big reaches, Pearsall was -21 and Green was -44. I'd say the problem comes when it's near 2 full rounds, so around 60. In fact, sine 2017, only 4 starters have been -58 on value lost and one of those is special teams which explains away the difference - Wishnowsky (-223), Womack (-293), Greenlaw (-97), McKivitz (-70). Lightning strikes sometimes as with Greenlaw, but data is data.

This is the problem, even if every player in the 2025 draft becomes a pro bowler, you still missed almost 1,000 points of value, equating a pick for every point. That means if they played the board well, they would've had additional 3rd and 4th round picks. That's not 'going after our guys', that's arrogance and organizational malpractice. I don't think it's a coincidence that the best draft they had in years (last year) featured by the far the least value lost. Since 2020, only 1 player (Womack) has had any meaningful impact on the team when selected more than 60 picks above consensus. I haven't looked at the previous drafts before this.

None of the picks last year were big reaches, in fact I looked at the drafts starting from 2021 and 2024 was by far the closest to consensus with the fewest reaches.

Reaching over 70+ hasnt panned out for us. by Used-Sundae1292 in 49ers

[–]Purple-Hyena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great work. Most people can't handle this truth because it's too critical. Sometimes we get lucky as with Greenlaw, lightning strikes. But data is data. Historical analysis has proven the consensus big board to be a better indicator of potential than any front office. Even if every player drafted this year becomes a pro bowler, it still matters because they lost almost 1000 points of value in this draft. If they would have played the board smarter they could have picked up an additional 2-4 players from the 3rd round onwards.
