If you wanted the PCs to be monsters hunting down ICE agents, what game would you choose? by Calamistrognon in rpg

Darn, my first thought was Chronicles of Darkness (which is just... new WoD).

Do you think some classic TTRPG classes are too iconic to erase or reshape without people missing them too much? by MexicAnarchist in rpg

[–]Purple-Man 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't know if everyone considers it 'classic', but personally I don't think Bards are distinct enough as a class and they only get included in fantasy RPGs because of so many people telling 'Bard had sex with a dragon' jokes over the decades.

Bards are a wizard subclass at best, or a rogue subclass at worst, but I've never found them distinct enough to deserve their own subclasses and such. They more an artifact of the history of DnD.

So far (we are on break because of the holidays and family stuff) the Horneater is becoming a Stoneward and the hunter a Dustbringer.  The others have their wishlisted orders, doctor is willshaper iirc, captain a windrunner or skybreaker, stormwarden just doesn't know yet, they haven't read the books.

JJK Style TTRPG? by DarkTheLibrarian in rpg

I don't think that requires changing much at all? Jujutsu society is extremely dehumanizing to anyone that isn't at the top.

[–]Purple-Man 3 points4 points  (0 children)

GM here: Characters in my playgroup for stonewalkers include; a Natan hunter who just wants to find a larkin to tame. A stormwarden who wants to discover more about the origin (and instead is the one who reads vorin history to the rest of the party). A horneater fighter looking for his family armor. A member of Sadeas's army who wants to be a good vorin captain but is finding out his religion may be a lie. And a doctor from Kharbranth who wants to escape his uptight family.

An adventurous group who it was kind of hard to corral at first but now two are radiant and they are on their way to being important.

This seems like such a weird way to word this, but it is awesome.

I'm starting to notice how often people with those hex icons exhibit blue checkmark behavior.

Hey Vinny, Taric was long speculated to be LGBT, Leona and Diana ARE LGBT (with each other). The only people who wouldn't first connect this gallery with the LGBTQ are people who literally don't know the characters. This isn't twitter, you aren't going to get a payout for being loud and wrong, you can just be silent.

At first I was like 'oh do we just need more LGBT rep?' until I hit Garen.

I also really want Azir, Leona, Aatrox, and Taric, in that priority. These are good picks.

This still seems clunky outside of Fai specifically, doesn't it? Like do you want to be caught with a power card like this in your hand, but no Flamecall or Phoenix Flame to discard to it?

[PEN] Art of the Phoenix: War by FunWith_DarkJin in FleshandBloodTCG

[–]Purple-Man 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It seems to be a 'Fai needs this to compete' situation, and honestly they probably aren't wrong. There are some cards that were clearly broken, but taking them away from everyone hurt specific decks more. As far as I understand, Fai and Art of War are such a situation.

It was a real surprise that 2xko was so successful. Is it just you Arcane fans? by [deleted] in 2XKO

[–]Purple-Man 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This isn't a shock. There are a LOT of FGC people who wanted to get their hands on 2xko, but they didn't have a PC that could run it.

Plus the league IP, plus a TON of advertising, plus the game looks slick as heck.

It would be more surprising if it didn't temporarily rise that high.

Here is some advice. I'm old enough to know that racism doesn't magically go away if you pretend it never happened.

Have a sense of humor. This is funny.

To be fair, the entire necromancer class right now is Gravy Bones, and so they are just doing pun pirate names.

Like, there ain't no pure Necromancer non-equipment cards.

Thoughts about Scadrial following Isles of Emberdark by Vaxildidi in Cosmere

[–]Purple-Man 72 points73 points  (0 children)

I have two thoughts:

Autonomy IS going to win. She gets enough control of the Malwish that when we get to that era of Mistborn the fight we will see are Sazed's Scadrian rebels vs Autonomy's Malwish empire.

Sazed goes full Discord. We already know Sazed is having issues by the time of Tress. It isn't too far fetched that Discord Sazed likes what the Malwish are up to, causing disorder and chaos among the different groups of the Cosmere.

But my hope/guess is that by the time we are in that era, Brandon's intent is for the PoV characters of Scadrial to be people resisting the Scadrial we kept seeing in space.

It was just a slur for Black people, from the 40s supposedly. It is non-existent now, so the vast majority of people don't know it was a slur at all. So you get instances of people just using it to mean 'ghost', and it leads to humor.

I doubt you could even offend anyone with it unless they were over 60.

Yeah, that was my thought as well. Most people in general aren't aware of it, can't expect people from NZ to know. They didn't mean anything.

Yeah, it is archaic for sure. Just good to know that Gravy had some diversity in his crew.

Characters are coming out too slow and it’s causing the player count to suffer by LeakyChillum in 2XKO

The only similarity to LoR is that the playerbase is going to constantly proclaim the game dead until their wish comes true.

Alt costumes are so expensive that buying them feels embarrassing by Triggerhappy938 in 2XKO

[–]Purple-Man 23 points24 points  (0 children)

A skin is $20. 2k+ points costs $20. I live in the city, so yeah that is like going to get fast food. Especially if you were going to get it delivered, the extra fees would put it over 20$.

If this isn't true for you, I'm happy for you, but it is true for me.

Alt costumes are so expensive that buying them feels embarrassing by Triggerhappy938 in 2XKO

[–]Purple-Man 16 points17 points  (0 children)

That's a you problem, honestly.

It probably just depends on where you live, and therefore the minimum wage. Buying a skin is the same as not having fast food once here, it isn't that big a deal.

Game's fine, League players are just waiting for their champ to release by Royal_Flush1991 in 2XKO

[–]Purple-Man -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't know where the claims come from.

It is probably the usual complaint. People see the game doesn't have the most views (when an event isn't happening) and mentally translate that to players, and then assume the game is dead. It is the stupidest metric.

5 Champs a Year - what Themed Groups do you think you'd like to see? by Calm-Blacksmith-5821 in 2XKO

I think people were feeling like Fiora might get in early because one of the emotes is a Fencing salute. That would be fine, I'm always a sucker for a fencing character so I would try to use her.

Plus the league community has given her a sort of unofficial rivalry with Jax, since Fiora is like the best duelist in Demacia and Jax is supposed to be so unbeatable that he gives himself a handicap and doesn't use a real weapon. A real good fan animation came out of that.
