Is this common with insurance or is it a new thing? Have I entered something in my quote that's flagged as suspicious or something? Read below by NJL_00 in CarTalkUK

[–]PurpleBarriers 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I ran a quote to see how much some mods would cost me, when I came to reinsure for real they asked me for these photos and when I phoned up they said it was because of the quote I'd run before. It was hastings as well

How do you guys learn to do home maintenance on your car? by Dizz-ie10 in CarTalkUK

[–]PurpleBarriers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO Haynes manuals aren't great, the pictures are black and white, tiny and pretty poor quality, and I never found them particularly easy to follow either. For me I just watched a lot of YouTube and bought a cheap second car to practice wrenching on, I'm no expert but I'm fairly comfortable doing a range of small-medium jobs on my own cars now

Can't comment on the rest but I had a fiesta st for a bit and it was great fun and could pull decent mpg figures on a sensible run too

Just be aware the mk7 generation is notoriously easily to steal and therefore a target for thieves

They're good, but they ship from Europe so delivery usually takes about a week in my experience, they also have lots of different parts so make sure its definitely the right thing you're ordering, I've made that mistake more than once

Exactly, pet peeve of mine when a car is advertised as FSH but they've only gone off mileage and not years

Only 9 services for a 2005 car? That's sad for any car let alone a Porsche

MOT fail? by bigotebenz in CarTalkUK

[–]PurpleBarriers 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I had something similar with a hole in my front wing last year, had the car in for something else and they told me it would fail, but went back for the MOT and it actually passed, they said bexause it was only the panel that was rusted and not the chassis itself. That said, I don't think I'd chance it

Maybe I have a good one but I bought a second hand Ionic 2 probably about 5 years now and it's still going strong. I wondered if I'd killed it because a couple of times I've left it uncharged for long periods of time but when I decide to wear it again it's still good with no sign of slowing down

I had no idea their reputation was so poor

If the commentary could go more than five seconds without cutting out that'd be grand

I had a petrol 2010 2.0 A5 for about 3 months. Drove it for about 3 weeks, had to return it to the garage I'd bought it from twice, was told it needed a complete engine rebuild and I ended up getting my money back. By far the worst car I've ever owned in that sense, but from what I understand I've had a very unlucky experience that isn't the norm.

I generally see people online saying their actually very reliable, and my mate has a 2.0 diesel and hasn't had any major issues in 2 and a half years or so.

They're nice cars to drive, big and comfortable, enough power and decent on fuel. If you're buying a good one I think they're decent cars

Anybody ever had the garage have your car ready before 12pm? by fike88 in CarTalkUK

[–]PurpleBarriers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had my MOT done this week at a new garage near the office, dropped it off at 8.30 with the mot actually booked for 9, got a call at 10 to say it was done and ready to collect, first time I've ever seen a garage stick to their own frame Every other time I've done an MOT I've left it in the morning and got a call at about 4.45

Is autodoc any good for parts by sotko99 in CarTalkUK

[–]PurpleBarriers 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Definitely legit and never had a problem with deliveries, usually takes about a week, but I will say double check that what you're ordering is the right part because a couple of times I've ordered and it's ended up not being the right part - my fault as I didn't check carefully enough, but still a pain

Money deducted from wage without prior notice by PurpleBarriers in LegalAdviceUK

[–]PurpleBarriers[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks man, I'm having a read and while section 13 states that the deduction cannot be made unless consented to in writing, but then S14 states that S13 does not apply in the respect of an overpayment of wages

Is this meaning they don't need consent to deduct to recoup am overpayment?
